Early on in the game I see a lot of people stressing about losing their runes. Trust me on this, don't worry too much about it at the beginning, you'll realize sometimes how freeing it is to lose all your runes and just be able to go into an encounter with nothing to lose. Be patient, concentrate on getting the mechanics down, and I guarantee this will be one of the best video game experiences ever. Subbed.

Hello. 1- Now that you encountered a wall (Margit) trying going north, I recommand that instead you visit south (i mean very way south). This way is beginner friendly. 2- Also, look closely at your world map and search for something that could represent cave entrances (there is one nearby at the lake) These are often mines were you'll find stuff to improve your weapon more. 3- Don't improve weapon you don't like or have difficulties to play with. Find a weapon style that suits you by trying all (ashes of war moves included, remember to hold your weapon with two hands for that !) 4- As somebody already told you, Don't raise your shield all the time up as it will destroy your stamina. When your stamina is gone your posture will break then you'll take max damage. Learn to roll first (the basic move of souls games, the timing is the key, here) or block hits with your shield raised just before the hit, then lower the shield just after to help the stamina regeneration rate

First off: great episode! Keep going. Death is part of the experience :) Some more advice: - you can sprint by holding "B" - enemies respawning is a mechanic of the souls games. You need to fight your way through to the next savepoint (grace). Only important enemies and bosses do not respawn. If you return to an earlier area later on you will be much higher level with upgraded weapons. So in a way the game does you a favor with this since many enemies have the chance on dropping specific items or gear. This would suck if you only had one chance of getting the items. - quests, story and the general lore are cryptic by design. Much of the world is explained by item descriptions and NPC dialogue that often raises more questions than it answers. So it's okay to be confused AF. If you have any questions though I will try to answer them as spoiler free as possible. - stats and leveling up is a science in itself. Weapons have a base damage and scale up additionally with specific stats. For now you cannot go wrong with vigor. Weapon scaling matters most in the late game. - generally about weapons: I would advise not using a shield as a beginner. Shields screw you over since your stamina does not refill while holding it up. Stamina management is hard enough as it is and most times I see new players using shields it makes their life harder. Also shields are useless on bosses since their attack cannot be blocked most of the time. - Daggers are good but have little reach. If you keep using them one in each hand is the way to go. If you choose anything else faster weapons are imo easier for beginners. The timing for heavy swords can be quite tricky. Anyway it needs to be right for you. Just choose what feels good to play.

Some minor corrections: Stamina refills while holding up the shield but it is quite slow. So it is recommended to lower the shield to recover the stamina quicker. A good strategy could be raising the shield only when you want to block the attack. Shields have been quite powerful in souls games. As long as your stamina (endurance bar) doesn't deplete completely and the shield has 100% physical damage negation, it will always block incoming physical damage completely. The other attacks like magic, fire, holy, lightening will make you take damage since the shields usually do not have 100% damage negation against elemental attacks. Elden ring even has guard boosting which makes shield pretty good.

@@rhrishikeshsane5450 oops okay my bad yeah there is some regen. You are also absolutely right about shields being a powerful tool. Especially against normal enemies and human bosses they are really good. Some even do good damage. I even completed elden ring bonking everyone with the palisade shield (sounds stupid but its pretty easy. The damage is great). Coiled shield or One-eyed-shield or are also really cool. I still stand by my point that it is not easy to manage when to put a shield up and down for a beginner. I feel like its one of the things that kill new players the most (others being panic rolling, rolling away instead of into attacks and generally bad timing).

Information and story is scarce in this game, you will need to hear everyone out if you want to at least somewhat understand what you are supposed to do and how everything is linked together. There is a wonderful story to Elden Ring and the lands between. Sure, it’s a great action game and you can skip story all together, but wouldn’t you wanna know WHY you are supposed to do what you do? 😌

I love how helpful everyone is in the comments. The Soulslike community gets a bad rep because of the "git gud" memes, but they're actually super kind and helpful. The Elden Ring reddit almost always accommodates "stupid" questions that most of the gaming subs would roast you for. My tip: most of your damage done will come from weapon upgrades. Don't be too scared to lose runes, just focus on upgrades and learning the game for a while. You'll get a hang of it. Oh and that place you wanted to go is called The Church of Anticipation and yes, you can go there. In fact, you already were there. When you died in the beginning of the game to the first boss, that's where you were. You can get back there and teach that grafted scion a lesson :P

A Great but terrible time...... Welcome to Elden Ring... :) You did a good job following the grace to where you were supposed to go, but that is merely the main story line if I remember correctly. You don't have to strictly follow it. Like a few others said, I would forget about Margitt for now and explore more of the southern part of the map to get better gear and weapons and upgrade them. Just a note without saying too much, you missed a few things in the Camp with all the soldiers at the beginning. You were right on top of them a couple times but never got them unless it was edited out. I hope you enjoy the game. I am currently on my 4th play through and still have a lot of fun with it.....

You've chosen a really tough class in the bandit. Daggers are one of the worst weapon types, only really useful in specific builds. Pick up a straight sword and a medium shield. Greatsword even better if you can still mid/roll. Block/counter with a 100 physical damage resist medium shield is very new player friendly. As others have said, explore the whole of Limgrave (south) and then come back to Margit. Keep at it though!

@@LamoGaming1 So first of all you are doing really good!!! don't feel bad about dying! it's part of the game design to just die a lot in order to learn what works and what doesn't. Enemies respawn so that you can always kill them again and stack up on runes $$$ As a matter of fact when you glow like that in 13:17 it means you will get more runes than normal from enemies. Like others said the story and quests are super cryptic (for real No one understands the story fully) but make sure to talk to people multiple times. (like that girl in the shack who is sitting sadly) AND make sure to read item descriptions with the "switch view" option. Item descriptions are lil nuggets of info about quests or the world's history. Definitely go level up and take it easy before facing margit again :) No rush! This is 100% a suggestion and not advice… I always found the button mapping for souls games to be a little weird. Try mapping your buttons how I do. Left trigger is dodging/sprinting, left bumper is for using your items, right trigger for left hand attacks/blocking, and right bumper is ashes of war (using weapon skill). X to attack, Y to heavy attack, A to jump, and B to interact with things. R3 to lock on and L3 to crouch/dismount. I place my HP and FP flasks in my pouch along with Torrent’s whistle and a flask you find later on. Holding B + d-pad to access items in your pouch is easier than cycling through all my items I find, especially later in the game. The biggest benefit from this layout is it’s easier to sprint and dodge with left trigger than it is pressing B, letting you keep your thumb on the jump and attack buttons. Don’t forget about jump attacks and charge attacks for more damage. Good luck.

I also put my flasks and the whistle in the pouch, found it much easier to do than having to cycle through things to find them in the tool bar in a battle.
