I Make a Milling Micro Vise
Ғылым және технология
Today I will make a small machine vise.
A vise (American English) or vice (other English-speaking countries) is a mechanical apparatus used to secure an object to allow work to be performed on it. Vises have two parallel jaws, one fixed and the other movable, threaded in and out by a screw and lever.

You'd probably want it with mini lead soft jaws so it wouldn't mar the soft metals common in jewelry
@DSMownedU
3 жыл бұрын
@@commoncents7330 most vices or clamps we use are steel. The trick is not overtightening to the point of marring the metal. Some tools are brass lined to prevent that issue, like you said.

Big brain Comment right here. Small head though
Okay this has to become a series. Mini machining tools. Make a mini magnetic chuck. Make a set of mini calipers. Make a mini ratcheting drill press. Find a tiny motor and make a mini grinder or belt sander that uses belts that you have to cut yourself.

Joe Pieczynski just made a miniature lathe on his channel although the castings were from a kit.
I have never seen the multimeter continuity trick before, that's genius. I wouldn't be surprised if it's common in machining, I just never would have thought of it

I was just thinking about it. Why didn’t the current loop around the machine? Is there some isolation somewhere?
@ajosepi1976
3 жыл бұрын
@@testi2025 I just checked my Sherline mill because I was curious as well. The resistance from the bed to the spindle is so high that it is basically isolated. It is anodized aluminum on anodized aluminum with a film of oil between them. I guess that is enough for it to work when all the parts stack up.

@@johndoh9121 Nah, I know shops that do that all the time. It's such a light touch that I'd be shocked if that could damage the tool. Plus it was only aluminum.
The production level of your video is outstanding! thank you for this gem!
You have such a relaxing channel. Thanks for sharing your creativity and talent with the rest of us.
As a journeyman machinist, and a tool and mold maker, I admire your efforts and intelligence. :)
It’s a lot of fun seeing functional tools/objects being made on the micro scale and not just a molded/cast model..the precision along with the planning needed for these to work seamlessly is underrated for sure..even with a mill or lathe it’s still extremely impressive..great job, hopefully we get some more micro tools here in the near future

Excellent! We featured this video in our homemade tools forum this week and people really liked it :)
Nice touch (pun intended) with the meter as edge finder!!! Killer move
Masterful craftsmanship, as always. Thank you for sharing your work.
There are several things you have made I would purchase in a heartbeat
Marvelous work. Best channel I've found in a long time!
Mixing the backwards clips with the normal ones at the start was like dragging a woodscrew over a chalkboard for me. They look amazing on their own, but having them together like that made my brain rebel. Neat effect, even if I don't want to feel it again.
That is an amazing piece of work, you have a real gift with your machines and your camera work and editing. Truelly awesome 👏👏👏👏👍
Such delicate and precise craftsmanship. Bravo.
Another great beautiful tiny project...
A great bit of delicate engineering, well-executed. Good video
the multimeter trick!!!! i have literally spent many hours trying to program mach3 and my driver board and software.....just to see him do that made feel like a failure!! great job
This is so cool. You are very talented!
Wow! That is one precise little vise! Nice work! 😀
Another amazing piece of work! Keep it up you are great! 👌
You would be surprised at the real world applications of such an item. Fabulous.
I never would have thought of that multimeter zeroing trick. Genius!
Again amazed at his ability and know-how 👏👏👏👏👏
Simply pure genius and creative. Almost above human intelligence. In fact it is... no doubt.
now you have to make a tiny mill to go with it
I am a huge fan of the "because I can" mentality of this project. Subbed.
Absolutely love the idea of using a continuity tester to check if the cutter is making contact.
Nice meter continuity trick!
love your videos man, keep up the great work!!!
Using that 'huge' fly cutter on such small parts makes me smile. Can't argue with that finish, though!
Wow how much precision is on that...
Я даже не знал что у левши есть второй канал. Как всегда крутое видео. Like!
Very chill, great video!

Beautiful work. I really enjoyed watching your video. Keep up the good work.
That is very smart to have the knowledge that you have to make a tool that works really well and that I m probably not the only person that would love to have one like that you are a genius
I found you through My Mechanics. I can die happy now.
Awesome job! Now use this vise to mill an even smaller one!
Love you edge finder trick!
utterly amazing! Wow! Beautiful work! Kudos! :)
Everything on micro looks so nice
Wow that job really does people speechless. Loved it
Cool little vise, great job
Astonishing !! Great work
Watching this made me really appreciate having full size machine tools. I am not a patient man.
I could watch this for hours very nice work
The utter accuracy and size give me serotonin
That threader is TINY! I've never seen one that little. It's kinda cute

I'm always fascinated by the making of small/miniature versions of common workshop tools. This looks awesome. Would make a nice little display piece on my desk if I had one.... (The desk that is)... 🤣
Ok that method of edge finding is brilliant.
Absolutely Amazing!
Great work !
This is ridiculously impressive

A tiny vise for tiny nuts. Enjoyed watching you make it.
I will pay for it a million times. Awezome, congrats.
Beautiful!
Great work my man!
Deserves millions of views
Mesmerising 👌 such a perfect fit
i wish real machines were this quiet with nice music in the background. its so peaceful when you don't hear all the loud scraping
Nice job!
Finally, a tool worth making!

DUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!! Holy crap man that is AWESOME!!!
Now that's about the size of tool that would fit into my (nonexistent) workshop space :) High quality craftsmanship again, as always. My only question is: how would it be fixed to anything, and what workpiece it is intended to? If you go on this way, very soon you'll arrive to the atomic level of machinery :D

What would’ve been cool is if the lil Vice slid into the rails that the mill has and actually use it to clamp tiny projects in the future with it along with cutting out a couple spots to where you could hold/clamp tubing
Such fine detail

wow that is some serious material deflection right there at 7:58, a traveling steady is needed for a cut on a thin rod like that, well done on making such small tools, i already know how hard that is.
