I Make A Jewelry Box for my Future Wife.... I Hope
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I take an old TV stand a client sent back to me, and turn it into a beautiful jewelry box for my girlfriends 30th birthday. I use Wenge wood , which is awful, and white oak to make the hand cut half blind dovetail drawers. I use a router to make all the slides, and I take a hunk of solid brass and use basic woodworking tools to make custom drawer pulls.

11:36 Handy tip I ran across years ago, has saved many a finish for me: Keep an old toothbrush on hand. The bristles are perfect for raking toward any bit of debris in your wet finish, and scooping it right up out of there. Plus the lines they leave are so light, they'll usually flow and fill right in, or with minimal retouching. Give it a wipe with a damp rag (damp with water or whatever the solvent for that finish) to clean the bristles before it hardens, and you can re-use it for every project.
Remember kids. Jewelry boxes are for day-to-day jewelry. Put your heirloom or expensive stuff somewhere anyone walking into your bedroom would never bother looking.

John, I have made multiple gift for my wife in my journey as a woodworker. Isn't it great to see the reaction? Beautiful craftsmanship in this project, and wenge itself is awesome. Nice work.

Thanks so much JD, She is loving it and so am I!
The contrast between the wengé (that's how we write it in the Netherlands) and the oak is so beautiful!! My brother in law made two furniture pieces for his graduation with both oak and wengé. I think I will make some out of wengé and oak or maple or something as well! Keep up the good work!
Very nice John. Great to see a project involving hand power and fine detail work like you did here. Just surprised there wasn't another gift inside the jewelry box to further surprise her. She had a wonderful reaction though. And don't you love those 4 words of "Did you make this?". Kudos dude.

This is so cute and the box is beautiful!
I think your best project yet. I have made a ton of jewelry boxes like this and like to use shellac as well. If you are using the blonde shellac I think you may find using a rattle can shellac a lot more forgiving and infinitely easier. 4 or 5 light coats, sanding in between and you are done. You can literally apply the next coat in 20 minutes. I can’t believe a client sent that thing back, I’m going to have to look for that podcast, I want to hear that story......Thanks again for sharing this. Dave

This woodworking book *TopFineWoodworking. Com* contains a great deal of details about woodwork. There are some designs in the book but it is primarily explaining the procedure of how to do various things and what tools to use to accomplish them. In general, this book fulfilled my basic desire to learn about wood working.?
I've been watching these videos for about two years and I'm just about to attempt two jewelry boxes as christmas gifts, wish me luck

John...You made something beautiful for the most special person in your life and you shared it with us. Thank you Sarah. John... wood glue, how does it work? Can you tell us about it some time?
I would love that band saw! Nine will only take a 1/2" blade and can only cur 5" high.
Good day John, I have to make a jewelry box for my mother in law. I searched KZread and found your video. First, i love love love the classey brass tab pull outs as it really contrasts the dark wenge ! Fantastic work. I have a question, the main box....do you remember how thick you made the walls ? Keep up the great content !
Fantastic job! Was wondering if you might have a link to the flocking you used in the drawers? Thanks and as always, keep up the great content and work!
Great build! Love her reaction to it. What did you use to secure the glass to the wood?
I dig it.

In case anyone's curious... the black powder being added after the black paint is called Flocking Powder (or Flocking Fiber).
Beautiful! Did you put the flocking right into the paint?

Nice work. How do you ensure that the drawer runners are exactly where they need to be?
Beautiful piece for a beautiful girl; lucky guy!
Anyone know what the product is that is used for the lining in the drawer boxes? And how that product works/holds up?
Do you add glow before joining the parts that looks like a puzzle ?
interesting... I usually go with PINS first for through dovetail, but never seen this technique on half blind. very good job overall
