I kind of dislike how the Lore was forced. Basically the person open the server, appointed staff members, and the staff members basically decided who gets to be in charge and they of course decided themselves.

Yeah, but it was kind of script heavy. Sending a Google documents to everybody and telling them what they would be saying that day and stuff. Notice how a bunch of the background characters never spoke. It was only the mayor, the people plotting the rebellion, and basically never did any of the background characters say anything.

The players went through a harrowing but touching story arc that showed both the beautiful and ugly sides of civilization. The villagers were led by a man who, after building so much and carving away at the island, let nature flourish at the last day. How is this so deep for me?

The server was ran like a dictatorship. The staff member is basically got to choose everybody who got to be in charge and if you were not picked by the team or you were not a friend of staff you did not get any lines. You would just be used an extra like in a movie. Not to mention the repetitive having to read the script over and over through the Google Doc of what would be said on what day

in terms of beauty, villagers win, but in terms of lore, game progression, and fun, players win

I feel this way too. While giving us the voice to vote in the comments was a great idea, just as good of a one would have had been to show off both creations to each side and I highly anticipated that part to happen. This was a disappointment. Fun, but a disappointment nonetheless.

Yeah I re-watched it a bunch of times because it was an awesome line and super dramatic

I think the only real main issue with how the villager village ended up is cause Zee himself didn't seem to care for keeping any trace of nature left, even calling the last untouched corner 'ugly' and just buried it in a box. It's too manicured, which even Zee realized at the end

Bro turned a simple fun game into a movie that changed my day how does he keep doing this

Zee is slowly going insane more and more when interacting with the villagers. Edit: got to the 25 mark, honestly the line "You know the best thing about not having free will? You don't have a say." goes hard, feels straight out of an animation like eddsworld or a batman villain.

Smart... And terrifying 😁when I was seven and first started playing creative, I spawned a TON of villagers thinking they would build me a village. The result? A bunch of villagers running around opening doors in my base. I wish I had this mod-that would have changed tons of things in my childhood.

More accurately this video answers the question "Who would win, AI villagers controlled by a single person who's whole career is built around being good at minecraft, or a team of players who seemingly not know what challenge they are doing".

This video was so well made, very cinematic with great storytelling. The video was much deeper than i thought, and i love how you ended the video all ❤️

In my opinion, I like all of them. Even though they had different actions, plans and achievements, they all completed their one goal, making the best villages. Recipe of making the best Village: War, Friendship, Unification, Plans, and Fun.

Lovely stuff!! I'd have loved to see even more of the different POVs, lets-play style!

You forget that these are just a bunch of mindless drones without free will, taking commands from a single person who lacks vision, creativity and the ability to go off the books of what is a traditional villager village. If it had no one to give them orders, nothing would have been done. That's why players had problems. Players already had their own vision and drive to pursue and had to find like minded people willing to head in the same direction- which is exactly why there was war. No 2 people are the same and there will always be opposites because they all have character and their own sets of uniqueness.

3:10 it is at this point that I foresaw the entire rest of the episode. While the intelligent and adaptive players were capable of much more, corruption and power wouldn't let them reach their full potential.

The twist is, only half the players won while the other half lost. Those who worked together and had fun free from control got what they wanted, they won. While the controlling party failed to accomplish the very goal they set out to complete and fun was not included, only war.

@@iroboskelly4421 If ridding ourselves of free will means making a really good village where everyone is content and has food and shelter, yes. You enjoy the idea of free will because it allows you to fulfill very temporary desires, but in the long-term, it does nothing for you really. Villagers sustain themselves for the long run and succeed as long as they aren't getting murdered by a horde of zombies. Free will is like a really sweet candy meanwhile the Villager Mindset is a full-course meal that satisfies hunger and nutrition, but might not taste that good overall compared to the candy.

In the end, your struggles only make your victories more satisfying. It's like saying AI art is better than human-made art because it's made quicker and more efficiently. Look at how nice their island looked, despite the war and strife. The most beautiful cities throughout history have had their own dark ages.

@@Sunnysideanyway Nah, I still think the player village has rough edges and not enough practical facilities like a big ol farming district. The village made by villagers had nice straight edges and walls around the whole place, so it was fairly easy to navigate and the space is used quite practically.

Had a really fun time during all of these recording sessions, despite all the ups & downs that occurred. Thanks for yet another really great experience, zee ❤️

Give 100 players their own villages to build and run. Maybe add village warrior mod to get a bannerlords minecraft experience.

Better village, goes to the villagers, its bigger, more advanced, and more industrious, better community, also goes to the villagers, as they never had any internal disagreements, honestly the players completely failed the intended goal, but they get props for acomplishing way more, a seven day ender dragon kill with a slight distraction for the first six is more than most minecraft players have managed.

I feel like the villagers made the best town in the traditional sort of the way but the player captured the heart and soul of a community by breaking of the shackles of competition and going off to have fun with one another as equals

This was so much more that I ever expected

Damn wasn't expecting a Minecraft video to have such an emotional touch to it

That speech ScarletFrost gave was honestly beautiful. There was a rebellion changing everything they know and love, and they still wanted Bertha to be their leader, all because of free will.

You should let the writers know that. Because everybody had their entire script written out on Google Docs. Everything you saw with the player base was scripted except for the buildings with look like. Every word that was said was scripted and every person's job with scripted and crap. It's actually rather annoying. he basically just wanted to make a mod review / showcase of what a person can do with Minecraft mods. Flexing if you will.

While I agree (about the part that being a human is important), you have to remember this was supposed to be a competition, and it didn't end up as one. This has been a great but fun disappointment.

I would love to see a full episode of just you playing with the villagers like that or a series?

This one single video single handedly proves that villagers are better than players. Note how the villagers stayed on track of the goal the entire game and didn't bother distracting themselves with other problems, whilst the players literally gave up halfway through and got jumbled all over the place with politics and fighting the ender dragon

While the central idea of the video is building the village, the main message behind it feels more like Humanities ability to have fun. Sure, the Villagers were AI, but they were commanded by a person, a guy who just wanted to build something nice looking, the Players also had that goal, but when it slowly grew unfun, the people found new ways to live, and to experience the world around them. The Villagers needed the player to build anything, but the Players inevitably made their own choices and their own course

Love the video, never fails to intrigue me.

That war was basically what helped extinct the ancient builders in the Minecraft lore. As Matpat said it; “History repeats itself.”

I think it would have been cool for the players to team up with the villagers and live in peace.

Personally, I think you can tell that AI built the Villagers' village and you can tell that a lot of people worked on and had discourse in the Players' village, I like the latter more because it's more personable. RIP Aki, you will be in our memories forever.

The village building is so cool... just imagine an RTS one Like villager soldiers and iron golems Watchtowers, barracks and expansion

This is a very well crafted video! It made me realize that Minecraft wasn't as fun as it was before because as grown ups playing the game now, all we care about is efficiency and all. We forgot to have fun, we grew up and got boring. There is no proper way to Minecraft because in this game you decide how you want to have fun!

I think this could bring up the importance of who you hang with, about what is to hangout with people that are in sync with your beliefs and ideals. We have the villagers with one leader pursuing one same goal and dream, and they achieve something big and complex where they all can thrive and be happy. The other group had people that wanted power and control, other that couldn't care less about set goals and just wanted to play the same way everyone has always played and will be playing or that they could have done any other time instead of trying to play on a different way or the challenging one, and inside these if there were people genuinely wanting to be creative and build something nice they got screwed as they weren't able to flourish and develope their ideas, they got dragged by the louder issues. That group eventually split and those smaller groups went into working on what they really wanted. So... It's about the pursuit of what you really want and finding those that are interested on achieving the same goals so you don't up being dragged around things you don't really want to do? But at the same. time ways consider what is that that you want and if you are not wasting the opportunity to do something different and build something new by doing the same thing you have always been doing.?
