I Made Wizard’s Chess in Minecraft

Ойындар

Hey everyone, in this video, I walk through how I made Wizard's chess from Harry Potter in Minecraft. From designing the 3D pieces, to figuring out how to control a 4-way flying machine, and all the logic required to make Wizard's chess work, I cover each step. At the end, I do a full playthrough of an entire game. I just tell the pieces where to go, then they move all by themselves. Thanks for watching!
A lot went into this video, and it required a lot of learning on my part as I am not a slimestoner or logical redstoner, so huge thanks to RMC Team, kk.mp4, and mattbatwings for creating great videos.

    If you want good looking pieces you could just stack multiple of those flying machines on top and simply use a a few blocks added to the bottom one to reach up and direct the top one where to go based where the bottom one is going. The best part about that is it is an independent system from your other redstone so shouldn’t mess up anything else but itself if it doesn’t work. From there you could just stick a cross or something on the king and whatnot

    Finally a good use for 4 way tech in survival Minecraft, great idea! As for chess peaces - another way to make them is with 2D pixel art on top of the engines. You just have to take an empty "bun", add single slime block on top of all eternal segments and place 5 coloured blocks on the sides of that slime. It will be perfectly at push limit and it will create almost a solid surface for pixel art on top of the engines. Problem may be resolution to fit chess icons so you may need to increase engine size, but honestly I like your goofy solution with 3D peaces more xd

  • @kk.mp4

    Also from the timelapse at the end I didn't really catch how do you delete chess peaces, do you just `/fill air`?

  • @SeaJayPlays

    @SeaJayPlays

    20 күн бұрын

    Hey, thanks so much! I’m just glad you had a machine that worked exactly like I needed it to, otherwise this project would’ve been dead in the water lol It’s funny you say that cause I actually did make a pixel version of the pieces as backup. If I end up doing a v2 I’ll make sure to show that!

  • @SeaJayPlays

    @SeaJayPlays

    20 күн бұрын

    Pretty close. At the start, I just let the machine fly off until it wouldn’t move anymore (out of my simulation distance). Then as the game went on I didn’t want to keep sitting there as they moved off the board, so once the captured pieces exited the frame, I would stop recording then use //set air to speed up that process 😂

  • @kk.mp4

    @kk.mp4

    20 күн бұрын

    @@SeaJayPlays I see, would be nice if this game was resettable so it's actually a fun minigame for vanilla survival. It sounds like a logistical nightmare but maybe in V2 you should program the peaces to move to some storage and after the game is over get back to starting locations. Also since we now know that we can put computers onto 4 way flying machines imagine how cool it would be to have all of the game logic on the engines themselves, but that is definitely a slimestone horror xd

  • @SeaJayPlays

    @SeaJayPlays

    20 күн бұрын

    Yeah I agree. The initial goal was to have a ‘graveyard’ that would store the captured pieces and allow for resets cause I did want to make it playable in survival. But yeah that in itself would’ve been just as must logic as the main game, so I kinda gave up on that idea 😂 Also, now that I’ve made the game and know all the logic required, I feel like I could make it more efficient/compact in v2 so making an actual survival-playable game could be possible. The only other issue I ran into was the shear size of the board cause when playing, parts of it are outside my simulation distance so sometimes necessary circuits wouldn’t load, messing up the moves. I used the Distant Horizons mod to get the whole board to render, but I’m not sure how to increase the simulation distance. The solution would be smaller pieces but then the ‘decoration’ gets sacrificed, and I’m definitely not good enough with slimestone to figure that out lol

    Hello, super cool vid! I wanted to give some small production advice, as someone who is also in the mc niche: try using replay mod to capture your b-roll shots, rather than recording ur screen and walking around as a player. It will take longer but the result will be much more smooth and professional looking camera movements. Also record ur b-roll in 30-50 fov, rather than a normal playing fov, as the lower fov looks a lot better, and makes the frame smaller, making it easier to highlight a specific object or characteristic with your shot. Lower fov is also much more easily understood (due to less visual clutter) when looking at a small image, which would probably help your thumbnail as well.

    I appreciate you taking the time to give some advice! I've used replay mod once and it kept crashing my game. When I finally did manage to get a 5 second recording, it came out in like 480p lol so I must be doing something wrong. Do you know of any good resources to help troubleshoot that? That's a good tip! I never thought to change that. So just the b-roll at 30-50, but keep the POV stuff (like in tutorials) normal? Thanks

    Good question! I wasn’t sure anyone would notice it. That’s a mod I use called noclip, and it allows you to fly through blocks like you’re in spectator mode. It’s super helpful when building in tighter spaces or where there’s lots going on. Here’s a link to their Modrinth page if you want to check it out: modrinth.com/mod/noclip

    If I find a 6-way flying machine, that could definitely be done! And it would make resetting the board a lot easier too!

    @@SeaJayPlays there's probably a way, I'm not much of a Redstoner but I have solved tough or interesting problems, I don't play Minecraft much.

    @@SeaJayPlays and now I found a 6 directional design kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYyGxLRuadjXf6Q.html now I know it isn't yours and many Redstones don't like reusing other people Redstones but many including mattabatwings wouldn't have their Redstone without someone else's help, maybe time to stop reinventing the wheel. now it needs some tweaking for what you want but worse thing is, is that you need some grabby grabber claws to activate the slime machine to go down, that actually sounds cool thinking about it, and or just have a retracting floor so the machine can move inside the floor before it starts moving, it could act as a visual to see where the machine moving.

    That’s pretty cool, I’ll check that out! Yeah I’d say I prefer making my own stuff, but when it comes to flying machines, I’m pretty terrible so I’d definitely have to look to someone else for help. Even in this video I ended up using RMC Teams’ and kk.mp4’s designs. The retracting floor and machine moving up/down is reminding me of a rocket. I think that might be cool to do if someone hasn’t done it already lol
