Man I swear you are like a little voice in my head that answers all my ignorance. I keep saying "Told Ya" this water hardness stuff is confusing if our water isn't the average tap water. Everything you are doing lately seems to fit in with all my difficulties. People just don't understand how good they have it if their tap water is ok for fish. Thank yiu Sir

This is the video I needed. I’m in Philly and my tap water is like a 6.4-6.6 PH, 40ppm KH, over 200ppm GH. I have always assumed a higher PH with hard water. All videos out there are hard water with high PH. I was confused at my lower PH readings. I seem to be fighting😮 a dropping KH issue from breakdown in my tanks and the water already being low in KH from the tap. Thank you for this post. Sorta answered many questions for me in one video.

Extremely important subject, and very helpful. I'm actually having troubles with my water since adding a water softener. I messed up my tanks in October and have been trying to get them back to normal. Thank you.

Water softeners add so many more layers of complication.

I was wondering why some youtube videos were saying that 7- 10 dgh was average but I had tested dgh of 20 or around 350 ppm, and a ph of 6.2. All the while my Tiger Barbs, Opaline Gourami and Cory Catfish are doing very well.

You can have hard water with low pH. And TDS isn't a proper way to test hardness. Hardness is a measurement of the calcium and magnesium in your water, while TDS tells the total number of all dissolved solids whether they impact hardness or not. It is the KH that affects your pH, not the GH.

If you have soft well water why have a water softener??

@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly I did not think of that. Wells around here are hard, drilled in limestone or Canadian Shield.

@@DanHiteshew-oneandonly I do too, i like Kent marine R/O right it adds some minerals to the water but doesn't increase the ph, I use it for my German blue rams.
