I Made a Massive Multiplayer Cooperative Tabletop War Game...
Ойындар
We've wanted a cooperative large scale war game for ARMCO for AGES. I'm sick of waiting. So I started making one. Welcome to the Meta Campaign

It would also be awesome if you made it a video series walking through the whole campaign week by week as like a news announcer or just going through some details

This is my first ever Super Thanks. Putting my money where my mouth is. Please do it all: Rules, units, battle reports, more episodes. Every time. Please make it a series. :)
Bro, detailed battle reports, or an overview of the campaign itself, told narratively like you did here would be amazing

YES PLEASE
"Let me know if you want BatRep" Shack, we sit through five minute storytimes for every. single. episode of your Star Wars games. Of COURSE we want more.
A Short "Day by Day" episode covering the actions of ARMCO over the course of the campaign would be dope. Treat is as a campaign News Report. The outcomes of the actions of the players. Discoveries (that are fully known and relayed back). And Enemy troop movements in response. Then you can have this whole recap of the campaign. Guarantees a video covering this once a week.

You tube short series of updates as news reports
Ngl seeing my unit, and my last log on the video was fricking cool!! I ran The Saints Medical Platoon and it was so much fun doing this campaign, meeting so many members of the amazing ARMCO Community! Lieutenant Krane, and his Saints will DEFINITELY be making a comeback in the next one. And s massive thank you to shack who put this together for us! We really appreciate everything you do. much love and support from Canada

I want to enlist into the Armco Fleet. How do I do that?
Love the recap I would love to see this continuing as the campaign continues
I actually had a big smile on my face watching this. This was cool to see Captain Shack, how you narrated it really immersed me in the battle. 10/10.
Captain Shack. You've literally created a system and game campaign thing I've always wanted! Please keep making this content. This is so cool and unique!!!

Willys Rovers! First in the field and the last out (because we forgot to tighten the jeeps wheelnuts.) 'Twas fun!
Not only would I love to hear more, but I'd also love to see you publish a rulebook for prospective GMs with large groups to have the opportunity to run their own game using your system. Obviously, make sure you've got a decently fleshed-out ruleset first, but I hope you can do more than just a couple of "this is how it works" videos for this one, it seems fun!
Dude I'm not gonna lie I would listen to a 12 hour ramble going into the details of each days operations and each groups antics. The more the better imo! What an incredible idea!
So sad I missed this! I would love more of this, alveit more campaibgs, more detailed battle reports, more in-depths looks at the game from a game designer's perspective,... I WANT IT ALL
We NEED battle reports and more detailed info on the campaign, this is brilliant!

I have physically never wanted to do something more in my entire life. Thank you shack.
That's actually super rad! As someone who makes games as a hobby, I'd be fascinated to learn more about it!
Definitely want more content on the game. Makes it easier to share with friends what I'm spending so much of my time with.
I want a full series detailing every event as thoroughly as possible
Good summary of the craziness that was Haven, the utter PANIC after poking the trees was something else. Zeta Squadron will be standing by for the next deployment, I suspect they're again going to be very busy. Hopefully this time I'm not going to doom a Carrier...

the guilt you must feel...
Sounds fantastic. Summary reminded me a little of *Shattered Galaxy,* a 2001 MMORTS. It was real-time, so probably not actually what you were looking for. 1. *World map* that your general traveled across (it was a 10-15 min travel time at the furthest, so traveling to different parts _could_ leave you or your team out of position to enemy surprise attacks). 2. *Battles* begin when players of two different factions met each other on the world map. 3. *Battle maps* I believe supported up to 96 players (32 v 32 v 32), though most battles were only between 2 factions (so 64 players). 4. Players each controlled *4-12 troops per wave.* When they died or retreated, you'd have a brief delay (10-20 sec I think?) before you could deploy your next fresh set of troops. But damage was persistent, so troops that were dead were dead until you got a chance to return to your HQ (I believe after a battle you had the option of teleporting to base or remaining where you were on the world map; though I think the losing team always got punted back home). Was a ton of fun overall. Gameplay wasn't really as good as Starcraft (and the pathfinding and graphics _definitely_ weren't, despite this coming out a few years after SC), but just the fact that there were so many players simultaneously playing was amazing.
Awesome to see the Recap! Can't wait for V2 to be released and would love to see more of these in-depth videos on it!
Would love to hear more of this, sounds like a really fun game, would also love to participate in the future campaigns if possible.
This sounds great! I might get involved for the next one - revive the legacy of the old gaming clan I was part of during the glory days of playing Foxhole...
Its such a surreal feeling seeing this video and knowing all the long hours of awesome discussion that went into playing it and all the effort that went into making it happen. Looking forward to many more to campaigns come! SITKA STANDS!
This is a fantastic idea, sounds like you might benefit from having people not in the community helping to create orders for the enemy in the future giving you full liberty to describe how things go. Would love a follow up video for this!

Cool idea and great summary video. Thank you.
This is so awesome! I've dreamed of a similar style of game, but never EVER thought it would happen! PLEASE do more of these, I want to get in on it!
Lets go, recap is out! Aether Drake's saluting cap! Can't wait for the next one coming soon.
Dang, This sounds fun as hell! Is there a public ruleset for both players and people wanting to try this system out in their group of friends? Also battle reports/updates on how the next campaign goes would be really cool!
I did this for gundam with my "letters from side 3" discord server system, having players manage the nation, work as scientists, engineers, diplomats, soldiers and so on, managing the nation and the war as it unfolded. and I think it's really funny that I am seeing this now as I am preparing for a new version of that game but on table top simulator. Honestly great work shack! A man after my own heart!
Great video and really cool seeing the summary of the campaign. The Phosphor Flys can't wait to take part again in the next one, it was amazing fun playing on Haven.
Detailed Report? Yes please. Captain is crown jewel on a gem of a community. Sitka Stands, ARMCO holds!
This! This is why I love watching your videos. Your ideas and story telling have always captured my imagination between your old Star Wars TTRPGs, your intros for EAW, ect ect. You've been a huge inspiration for me as a GM and I want to see more of this in whatever way you wish to present it. I've always wanted to do something similar with my friend group, some large overarching campaign like this mixed with smaller games to help inform the overall "meta plot" so it makes me super excited to see something like this put to a ruleset. (Same reason why I want a personal version of Helldivers 2 that I can run for my friends)
I love it, I've never watched any of your videos before, but people like you who make games, experiment and want everyone to have a fun game are the heart and soul of the tabletop gamer community, keep it up Easiest subscribe in a while
Longtime fan.. and just, holy shit. This is absolutely fantastic. Looks amazing.
12:00 that would be cool! I'd like another video! (or 2 or 3 or 30) This was really cool. The map tiles remind me of Battletech and I was totally stoked when I saw a Mad Dog in one of the posters you guys made.
Here’s hoping Shack makes a video about the second campaign:)
Having an Owlbear Rodeo map to be able to refer to real time would be cool! You could make it so that players could only move certain things, only see certain things you want them, and can even in-build things like fog of war.
Would love to see a continuation of this campaign, and a more in-depth video on how you made it work! It looks fantastic in any case!
Absolutely amazing! I'm looking forward to seeing the second one and how this evolves over time. You have a real gift for telling these unique stories!
I know other commenters have suggested something like this, but I’d love to see a summary or something of the day by day. Maybe this could find a home in KZread shorts, or something, but whatever it is we’d love to see it
I think you should do a role play series for this, or a short news video like you did for the Stellar series
Been looking forward to this ever sense shack dropped the concept. I want to hear how the whole campaign went
The way units players control made me think of monsno TV series where you could create custom creatures to control, part of me gets similar vibes just in different format and style, and with how systematic it feels give a rigid yet freedom of design. One idea is each player to my understanding has one unit to their tag, so I thought what if each player has something like a deck of sorts, representing their units, your unit commander will have a card, your infantry soldier has cards. if you have five super Horus(zero Dawn horizon like units) then You have five Horus cards, this way you can make sure when one of those Horus units is damaged but the other four are perfectly healthy, this will help make sure you don't accidentally treat the damaged Horus for one of the other four Horus in the unit. Maybe a better way to see cards as more profiles of different assets you have in a unit. You don't need to use this idea all the time, more of a tool you can use if you want as DM to manage everything. This idea I think has merit, I have no doubt it should be adapted to be compatible with already made systems. This is the first time I've seen this campaign game of yours, so I am ignorant of most of it, I just wanted to give my thoughts as an non indoctrinated observer before I learned more as it reminds me of the game idea I had in the past when I was younger but never got to finish just much more advanced then my kid brain came up with. Though if it works parts of me hope one day see galaxy level campaign in the future after a lot of refinement of micro level on worlds before macro level of galaxy.
Definitely would watch a full length battle report of this- super cool concept and good on you for having the mental fortitude to keep it all organized! I couldn’t commit the time to participate so having an AAR video would be a good consolation.
Oh my, the planet side 2 B-roll gave me such fun flash backs. Id enjoy more of these videos, thanks for running the game! and as always: Good Bucket!
The Avalon is standing by for the next campaign. Looking forward to assisting our tanks.
Would love to see a compilation of your favorite moments of the campaign, both rp, some things certain units did, as well as the panic that arose in comms at times.
A sci-fi massively multiplayer story of a full scale conflict? With the strategy master himself promising more *complex* enemies after what is already an infinitely interesting bug menace? Yeah it's a dream come true. Would love 'campaigns' of this with updates throughout, it is endlessly fascinating to watch and I am eager for more! Especially to hear what more people come up with. Love the aerial power especially.
I loved this and I had some ideas while at work. I think it would be cool to do a mini video on each invasion. Going over your favorite maneuvers and handing out medals to players that excelled or something The other idea is how this could be used as a modular system by you and others in the public. Interchanged to fit a variety of scenarios. The one I thought up is a feudal type game with multiple kingdoms led by kings. With lords underneath them as dukes and counts each having ther own holding and a limited number of troops based on rank. Then basically throw people in and tell them to roleplay. Have resources and strategic points around the map to provoke wars. The kings are allowed to make there own laws including necessity of joining your kings war. Whether you have to bring all your troops or even join them at all. Each land has there own laws. New territories are given to players to expand there own fiefs and rank. You can force other players to swear fealty when you take them over. The battles would be skirmishes on borders and huge armies made up of dozens of units across any players. Army leader gives the commands and everyone else follows it to there ability. Etc. Etc. I would love to hear what people think about that and just a modular system in general that can be used in virtually any situation. People can take the base system and create there own version. Hell you could have a site dedicated just to people finding games themed around what they want
Make a news series for this that gives a weekly update, it'll be so cool!
Congrats on a good first run! And yes I'd love to see more videos like this in the future! Really cool that you did this Shack and love to see where it goes in the future!
This sounds really cool! This is the first video of yours that I've watched, and this sounds like an awesome project. I hope to see more.
Back in college I played a play by email civil war simulator. Very similar ideas. Paid for each unit. First time the confederacy won a minor victory by counterattacking through Kentucky at a weak point. Second iteration the union wiped the floor as they immediately closed the weak point on turn one. Round three was the last. But the email group discussions on strategy were so much fun. Nice to see this.
This sounds like a gsrpg, a game format that doesnt have a lot of reach and is usually a little more narratively focused, but this is really really cool. The kind of thing I'd love to participate in. Hearing more about it can only be a joy.
@htspencer9084
13 күн бұрын
I would have to disagree here. GSRPGs tend to be more focused on 4X mechanics rather than wargame ones. While they're both similarly multiplayer I just don't think the connections are strong enough. GSRPGs function very differently and on a completely different timescale to what I imagine this sort of game would do.
I'm in love with this concept! I'd love to see some more detailed content and maybe a rules breakdown?
Man I'm so glad I found this! I've been looking for something just like this, and then it popped up in my recommended! Sad I missed the first one, but I joined the discord so I can stand with ARMCO for the second campaign.
This is super cool! :D I would love to see more of this!
You should make a full on series talking about this, the rules, units, history and lore just all of it I'd watch it all
This is absolutely fascinating, I'd love more videos on this!
By any chance, have you heard of "Total War: Arena"? The concept of a cooperative massive multiplayer wargame where each player commands only a few units (or only 1 unit), and have to work together to create Combined Arms (or even just cover the entire frontline & not get flanked), sounds like Total War Arena but reimagined as a tabletop RPG. Great work!
I think it would be most entertaining if this was described like those war/battle documentaries that are popular on youtube. Show movements and actions that are easy to understand. With simple arrows and easy to animate movements of each unit. Small battles would be summarized like chess pieces moving around, while major battles will have a zoom-in to describe each play.
this seems like a really fun event to play in I've run a similar idea before where i made up my own custom rules system for a war game which can support a large number of players in a pve battle it did eventually overwhelm me and it died out ^^' with only like 3-4 players, and only 1 of them were very active ^^' nice work on running this type of thing and nice work coming up with a standardized format
This was a very fun campaign to play. My squadron the Ghosts of Razgriz did will.
Just seeing the name "Razgriz" almost gives me a jumpscare's worth of nostalgia
Never seen your channel before but this looks so cool! Would love to see more about this!!
I knew I didn’t have time due to work, but I had so much fun watching everything play out! I would love to be in the next one, so a video explaining unit creation would be great!
Would love to see this continue and possibly join!
This is right up my alley. Would love to see more!!
It was great to be a part of and I'm looking forward to more narrative and yt content about it
Please make this a huge campaign. Like which areas of the planet should Armco defend/attack, and consequences of those actions. In fact, just make it a series
This looks amazing! I can't wait to see more!
You can make a whole youtube channel dedicated to both the play, narration summary (like this video) and design/development of this game. I see a diamond in the crust here. I really think you need to develop this, make a LLC and do a kickstarter for digital only publication with limited stretch goals.
I can only imagine how chaotic such a campaign would be if the opfor was an irregular milita. Bugs are one thing, conventional forces another but pop up militas would be a confusing pain in the rear.
Please! MOAR details Shack! Yes I'd love to see more recap, design and technical videos about this 😁
This is the greatest thing I've seen in awhile. Such a great, unique and fun way to have community engagement. I love this.
I'm at a complete loss for words bro. You've made the exact game I've wanted to play for years.
This campaign sounds really interesting. I’m honestly surprised no one made something like it before
Nice one Shack, looking forward to be in the next one as heavy arty
I have been on the ARMCO server for some time and totally missed that whole Meta Campaign, because this looks totally up my alley, I love creating units and such, and I even have ideas just looking at this for what I want to do. I was wondering, tho, are there any Mechanized Infantry units or is it strictly armor and Inf? I am just thinking, that if I create a Mercenary Unit, it would be a composite one of mechanized infantry with some light tanks ala Hammer Slammers. And yes, I would like to know more.
I like how one of the images you use to represent the bugs is from Resistance. That game franchise was really good!
This is awesome! Brings back memories of doing something similar with Star Wars space battles via email back in the '90s.
I would love to hear more of these fun shinanigens and even learn how the game is played in detail.
Definitely feel like doing some community night operations in arma would be really cool. Would take finding some mods that add the right equipment, but would be really cool to portray some of the combined arms and would be customizable for whatever comes up in the campaign
that was awesome, would love to see more detailed play on it: )
This was so fun and still is. Awesome coordination Cap.
It was such a blast dropping on haven. cheers to the rest of you on the beach of leftover soup
In the immortal words of the Firebat, "You've got my attention. 🔥" This game looks amazing. As in, "better than any tabletop wargame I've ever seen" amazing. I don't know how to play, or even if I have the time, but I want in. Looking forward to the next video.
This is an incredible cool idea! I can not wait to see it flourish
It would be awesome to do a week by week news cast where you go over the battles that week
I would love to see more of this. Heck, I would love to play this!
Defo want more of this, suuuper cool video!
This sounds amazing and I would love to play next time! An indepth explanation and everything like that would be amazing!
this is really cool would love to see more of this.
Should do more vids based on this shack would love recaps of the engagements like a news report would have and can't wait till the next meta campaign.
Absolutely looking forward to more campaigns! More informational/detailed battle report videos, please!
