ayeee! loved the editing and the fact you showed the whole process -- would highly recommend others try this 'from scratch' personal project to hone in their own process. To the comments about it not being $10k quality... sure, probably not. That being said you don't need to have extremely high quality to command high prices but this does come down more to your ability to find and work with clients. I have done projects for $20k + that were by no means "top" quality. If you're a soloist competing for work like this you'll usually be up against a studio with 10+ people and they'd be charging $100k so coming in at 1/5 that price and being able to deliver something 'pretty good' is where you need to land. At the end of the day the animation alone will not create success for the company so sometimes the $20k animation (or even $5k) can push the business to the same place as a $100k project if everything else 'works.'

you explained it better than I ever could! I do agree with people that you can’t just run out into the marketplace and easily charge 10k for an animation like this (especially not the exact one from the video, as I had to cut a lot of corners to stay in the 12 hour time limit) but it 1000% is possible as I already had similar projects with this kind of budget. Love the comparison you brought up of working with agencies and how much people pay to work with those - really shows how much some people/ businesses are actually willing & able to pay for nearly the same type of work. @@ioannis_h Nice work and super nice editing. I couldn't agree more with Derek. Price isn't always about quality, it's more about communication skills and setting clear goals. A clean and simple animation with a good product behind it can way outperform an over-the-top 100k animation from a studio with a bad product.

Hi, Derek. You seems to have a very high opinion about this product animation. Do you mean all you say, even though there is some rather glaring issues like the shape inside the joysticks changing from one shot to another(11:24 and both before & after that) and the switch on the side 11:17 not having a hole (and likely a material assigned) for it?

I'm posting this comment because I don't want future 3D artists to be misled by your title and video. It's nice that you provided a background into your process, but no client will pay 10,000$ for this kind of quality. You need to improve the model, lighting and animation. And even if someone were to pay this amount, it would never take 12 hours because clients tend to have a lot of feedback and revisions. Creating something with complete creative control is a lot easier than dealing with picky and demanding clients. That being said, you have a good grasp of 3D and I hope you keep it up and keep improving.

All of these are kind of subjective imo. I love the way this commercial came out (animation aspect) and do not care one bit that the models didn't come out extremely pro looking. I'd pay 10K easily for that just based on the nice animation....and i've seen plenty of nice looking animations with better looking models. You'll always find someone who loves it based on different aspects and i absolutely think it's worth 10K. Nice work!

I guess it kind of depends on two things: 1. How long is the animation - If the animation is over 20-30 seconds long in my opinion it gets a bit boring without music 2. What your skillset in sound-design/ your budget for the project looks like. If you‘re only going to use sfx as the audio it will have to carry the whole audio side of things, so it‘s gotta be good 😏 Thank you for your comment my friend 😌🙏🏼🧡

I've picked up pixel art by doing a '30' day self imposed challenge and I know 3D won't quite work like that, but will definitely take your advice on board, plus a healthy dose of wax on wax off. okay, first of all, I have 0 blender experience. I work in CAD and Revit and have been visiting blender off hours for fun. So I just have to say that the animation is overall very effective at what I think you're communicating here. I do think some of the motions in the animation seem a bit unnatural, when the device rests inside the box. but I understand with an actual product more time and resources would be allocated to a project like this. So, for a youtube vid of you showing this approach and a bit of scope of the industry you're in, fucking great vid overall. If I was buying, which I'm not. The commercial felt a bit too quick, it should be fast I agree but maybe slightly slower? just personal opinion. And some of the motions could be more refined. but for a youtube demo of what you can get done in under 12 hours, fucking sick. I'm envious of your ability. that commercial on top of filming and editing a high quality vid for youtube. I can already tell by your work station you're sought after. Keep up the channel man, you seem to have an eye that will allow your platform to just exponentiate.

Good idea good video 🎉 But there is some slight problem with the models. Like the joystick has that subd jagged thing you can see it The boolean box has some shading artifacts . All of those are minimal details but for a professional commercial you need to know them

First off, thank you so much for the feedback my friend! 🧡🤝 Regarding your questions: 1. Perfectionism - I don’t see this at a problem at all! Clients will see that you out in the extra work to fine tune the animation as much as possible. Small little details do matter! Of yourself you should try to keep it in the scope of the project (budget & workload wise) and also keep in mind what the animation will be used for. This will help you determine how much detail will even be noticeable for the use case. 2. Missing Ideas - If you struggle with finding the right ideas you need to look at more animations and artwork in your spare time. You should also, as I did in the video for example, have 1-2 reference animations that are very close to what you want to create. So every time you‘re stuck you can rewatch those and gather some new inspiration off that. But I think my first suggestion is even more important, the more animations and just creative material you consume in general will help you massively to come up with ideas by yourself! Hope you I could give you some stuff to think about 🧡🧡⚡️

I‘ve got the M3 with the best components besides RAM (which is 64gb) and Memory (which is 2TB) Runs like a charm but is very pricy. Anything upwards from the M1 Series will do you just finde even with Blender 🙏🏼🧡

uhh I‘m not sure if I‘m the right person to give you an accurate response to that. I chose the macbook for a lot of different reasons besides the specs as well - I‘m travelling a lot so I needed something I can easily set up everywhere. A lot of people will tell you that you can get better specs for the same money you would spend on the MacBook. Can‘t really give you an accurate answer to that sorry :/

This is good animation, but imho the model isn't really at the level of finished product, due to it looking different in certain scenes. The most notable part is the insides of a joystick looking very different on some shots. Especially on the one where it's the center of attention 11:25. While it 's easy to see this as just a smoothing artifacts, others people will likely be confused and see this as some dents\seams. In the next two scenes there is relatively smooth surface, but on 11:33 there is suddenly a truncated cone with very sharp bottom. Oh, and on the third view there isn't any hole (and likely material) on the switch at 11:17. The things like very tight bevels (fillets) on every corner can be attributed to the initial design, but it still gives a very sharp and dangerous feelling. So even if it is a part of initial design by a client, i believe there should be some wiggle room to smooth the sharp edges for a close up shots.

If you wanted to just inspire people to do some stuff by showing how it doesn't take much time and effort to do finished product, you didn't needed to talk about this being a portfolio or production ready piece with rather precise (and rather sizable) price estimate. For a person like myself, who is thinking about trying his hands at product animation the question of how polished the final portfolio & client work pieces is very important thing. And the video like that leaves me very confused. Yes, it does inspire me to do stuff myself & finish my WIP product design animation, but it leaves me in question. Should I really invest my time in practicing the profession and can i compete with other people? Because if it is a real market situation there is huge price dumping championship just around the corner, once "AI" will be able to pump out a half decent storyobards.

this channel is more than likely to take off. on top of the blender tutorial, great editing, cinematography and pacing. the higher camera angle when you speak to the camera is a nice touch. i don't have my own videos just yet but that angle is something I'm going to keep in mind when/if I begin. Keep it up man, looking forward to more!

Animation is really good.. but not worth $10000... Can charge a Max of $1000 to $1500 for this kind of work

10k is a bit of a stretch tbf - and I had to cut some corners because of the time limit but 3-5k is easily doable to the right clients. If you do this as client work remember that you will have revisions as well which drives the whole work load up a lot. Any you would have to analyse the actual product to remodel it, I just designed myself which kept it simple 😌🤝 Thank you so much for the feedback and your input my G ⚡️🫡

Well made video. However, for something like this I wouldn't be happy of the quality and being charged 2,000$. For this quality of a video, I'd be happy with 1,000$ plus some minor changes. No point in getting into details, but essentially the more effort you put into making something, the better the result

100% agree! I had to cut some corners regarding the time limit of 12 hours so a lot of stuff would need more fine tuning. I do think it would still be more around 3-4k as you have to keep in mind that an actual project like this will take significantly more time when working with a client. You would have to analyse the product to remodel it, get the exact textures right and don’t forget all of the revisions etc. Hope you see where I‘m coming from 😌🤝🧡 Thank you so much for leaving your feedback!!

Sorry but this work can’t cost so much. I work in gamedev and for me forms and texturing very easy and I never seen so big budget for things like this. One American company gave test task motorbike for 300 bucks of course I rejected it
