Cant wait to see the videos with the new Merc!! Btw is this the project car?!
Hey Alex, a couple months ago I bought a W124 400E off Copart (as a parts car for my 500E) for.... $400! I saw the auction thumbnail and immediately realized someone had put Euro 500E headlights in it which are NLA, but also it looked really clean and together, just high miles at 268k. I figured I'd take a chance with a $400 bid because the headlights alone were worth that much to me, but I could see it also had the original Becker Grand Prix head unit and I wanted the valve body for potentially swapping out with the 500E to get first gear start. Anyway I couldn't believe it but later that day I got an email saying I won the car, pay up (of course there were Copart fees and broker fees, but I still claim it's a $400 400E). I expected the thing to run like crap and have all sorts of issues but it said "runs and drives" so I figured I'd go down to the auction yard and see if it was road worthy or not, and after a little fresh gas it cleared right out and drove 3hrs through heavy traffic on a 90 degree day with the AC blowing cold! I couldn't believe it! When I got home and looked the engine over it was cleaner than my 500's with half the miles, and the plugs looked like they had been changed the day before. The trunk had a spare Mercedes genuine wiper and some MB genuine fluids in the trunk. The service sticker says "Next due Dec. 2018, Mercedes Park Place." When I got the car I found out it had been sold to a Carmax five minutes away from my house, and they sold it to Copart. I've been using the thing as my daily driver since July and may flip it at some point only because I don't have room for extra vehicles in my driveway, but for now it just makes me laugh every time I drive it because it's just so good!

Lol about 4 years ago I took a chance on a silver e500 (not the car in my profile pic) for $3k with 180k miles.... car ran perfectly fine, except I had to replace an AirMatic strut a month later.... I drove the car very hard all the time (my first time owning a fast car) and the car rode amazing and no rattles or anything and EVERYTHING still worked. Engine ran smooth and transmission shifted smooth as well. Had plans to flip it myself as I had just did some preventative maintenance but sadly the car was rear ended about 6 months after with 245k miles.... engine and transmission never gave me a problem. Even tho I have a 2007 E550 now, I still miss that car.
"they knew I'd basically buy anything broken". That's badass
You need to tell more of these stories, because this was fun!
Alex, I had a very similar story with a 1998 C43 AMG. I already had one but my wife loved it so much she wanted one, too. This was a long time ago. On a whim, I check craigslist and not only is there another C43 in my area for sale, but the guy wants $2500, says it needs a motor and a bunch of other work. I go check it out, it's gushing oil out of somewhere when it runs but I can't find the leak because it's leaking so badly, like a whole quart per minute. It's making some loud grinding sound when the engine runs, and the driveshaft bangs on every rotation and the car can barely move. I pay $2k and have it towed to my shop. I was going to just put a w210 E55 engine in it, so no big deal. Well, my mechanic gets inside it and figures out what's wrong: the belt shredded and wrapped around the crank pulley which shoved the crank seal inside and oil was gushing out there. $50 replacement. The loud grinding sound I assumed was indicative of the dead motor? Alternator bearing. The driveshaft was a $100 center support carrier. For $500 he had the car running flawlessly. Wife drove it as-is for 5 years and it was still flawless when she sold it!

I do to I had bought a 2003 venture van for $300 because it overheated they had replaced the headgaskets and they said it still overheated well Im a gm tech so I bought it. Come to find out was all they did (or didn't do) was they never bled the system so I bled it and it was fine and I sold it for $2000 not a bad profit

I would never my a Merc again...did have a 190E which was awesome.I had a similar experience from Merc garage i worked as a car cleaner at a different garage and my mate knew the mechanic at that Merc garage.I was told that my C280 (1995) didn't take much time at all to diagnose. The problem was it was hesitating,it was the wires were brittle (forgot the name where it was) which why it caused it hesitating.Any way, workshop manager said if it's not this part we'll need to fit another part....but i have to pay for both parts lol I didn't go ahead with the work as i knew many tricks in the car trade and walked off.The price was like £3.000 lol Part exchanged it for a Civic VTI which went like stink!!
I see those MB control arms back there lol. Just replaced all 4 on my S600 front.

Loved the video! I always enjoy hearing stories like this so yeah, more please. :)
Great story Alex. I’m a big MB fan and LSC fan too. Keep the videos coming.
I bought a b6 S4 from a dealership with a headlight warning light on the dash they couldn't figure out. Seeing it was lowered I knew the headlight auto aim adaptation was ever done. Pulled it onto a curb 2 blocks away and bent the sensor down. Light gone. Got it for $3900 out the door. Found a folder with $10k worth of receipts and timing chains 4500 miles before. Sold the rotiform blq's that were on it for $1200 and put my b8 S4 wheels on it. Had a set of kw varient 3s on it so if you factor that in I pretty much got the car for free. Still driving it today.
That local couple didn't really "give you" an extra $500. That was a good faith pre-payment to their new mechanic!! Without saying anything - they purchased a $500 warranty! Very savy! Btw, I absolutely loved this video!

And if I could find an Alex in my neck of the woods, I would do the same!
Reminds me of my buddy who bought a used BMW for $500 because the owner got tired of taking it to the dealer for a persistent rough idle. It turned out to be a cracked vacuum hose that would expand and contract in the heat and vibration of driving. The fix was almost free (he taped it over) and he turned right around and sold it for $3k. Goes to show when it come to diagnosing problems: Check the easy stuff first, then check them again.

@@CyberlightFG that's my first thought, if you're going to sell it at least put a new part on or that buyer will have the same issue as the original owner when the tape dries out starts leaking.

LOVE IT Alex! Really dig the content and stories like this. That’s so awesome. I’ve had couple good flips.. they always feel good. But what i recently enjoyed in last 2 wks was my late model 1999 C230k i got. Random find (by accident) but looked clean so i looked... then saw all the service records at MB and specialty shop. Local car to Wa. The interior is close to mint. the carpets still had the protector wrap on it!! Sure she will need a few things as they do, but she runs very well and same 2.3 as my Coupe had so i can do service. Gonna enjoy doing little things to bring back to former glory. Always loved that iconic body style.
I always dig cool car stories; your repair videos help with that you know! Practical car experience trumps theories on what is wrong every time.
Great video - you are a real natural and I love your passion!
Great story Alex! Yes keep them coming,
love watching your videos and love this format aswell in Australia
Love hearing these stories. Recently became addicted to VinWiki. As someone who has done some flipping in the past, some good, some bad, I can relate to a lot of these stories. Must say though most car dealers in the area I live have caught onto the flipping market and now ask stupid money for crappy trade ins or end of life cars. Seems most go straight to auction where some bonehead pays close to retail for a car of unknown condition. Sad but the days of the mega-flip seem to have passed by, at least where I live.
That's badass such a good flip. And yea these podcast are cool
Love this keep it up. Send more
Great story, Alex! I look forward to hearing more.
I like this type of video. Great story man!!
I’d love to hear more car flipping stories they are one of my favorite things to watch/listen to to pass time
I am the proud owner of 8 Mercedes cars at present and all have their own little stories I will start with the 2006 S-55 AMG that I purchased about 3 months ago from and insurance auto auction that I follow on line. This car was listed as "Fire in trunk and electrical issues." All of the photos showed a car that was in very good but dirty condition inside and out with 134,000 miles. The photo of the inside of the truck showed no bottom carpet section, and two small globs of plastic that had melted onto the plastic section where the spare tire is, and over in the corner where the battery is, was an empty hole, "No" battery. My final bid was $3,250, and with auction fees came to $4,018. My first thought was a totally ridiculous one, I thought. No way the "Electrical issues" can possibly be because there is no battery in the car. Turns out that thought was not so ridiculous. When I got it home I put a battery in the car, everything came to life, I turned the ignition and it roar to life like a brand new car. The only things showing in message center were ESP malfunction warning, Pre-safe not working warning, and tire pressure system not working. Tire pressure turns out to be no sensors in the wheels, haven't delved into the pre-safe or ESP yet, been too busy having fun with this rocket car. My diagnostic computer shows number two Yaw sensor malfunction Pre-safe and ESP malfunction and nothing else. The Rodeo test on the suspension shows everything working, no leaks no bad pump, and the hydraulic oil looks and smells like it had been recently changed. Next story will be the 2003 S-500 that I purchased last weekend from a private party because it would not run. No dents, no scratches, no rips or tears, dirty inside and out. Why it won't run? No fuel getting to engine. could be fuel pump, could be fuel pump fuse. If the fuel gauge is in fact working, it could also be that there is no gas in the car. I'll let you all know if the "No Gas in the car" is the problem. LoL.

Hey man just curious what was it ?
Like the story concept keep them coming!
I bought an Audi 4 door at the dealership for $200.00. .They said it needed an engine. After hearing the engine with my stethiscope all i had to do was change a broken spark plug . Problem solved. Later that year i sold it for $5000.00. I also bought, a Buick lesber top of the line for $100.00,, once again they said motor was shot. It sounded like a train.I crawled under the car with my stethoscope and determined the flex plate was lose.I tighten the bolts at the dealership parking lot and drove away with top of the line Buick for $i00.00, later that year sold it for $9,000.00 .
