I would think that you could use other types of yarn, thread, very thin plastic cords to make these. Depending on the length and the yarn or cord used, they would hang differently, be more or less more durably. If you put the clasps on boths sides ( using heavier clasps), you could attach one end to a purse and keys, a special rock or mineral with a hole in it as a dangle, (if you shop at Aldi's), you could attach your quarter to it and always have that quarter for the buggy. Don't look at her end project, look at the process she uses to make it and see how you could change one variable and get a different product. So many want to see one thing they can use, and if it's not this project, than it's a silly/ stupid idea. Use this as a jumping off point to see what YOU can do. Don't copy; create.

I like this idea. I have seen the kits, but was reluctant to buy then as there are a bit pricey for something I may not want to make loads of. This way I can at least find out if I like making them. You instructions seem so much easier to follow then when I have seen them demonstrated on Create & Craft.
