I'm WALKING Freely in Rwanda 🇷🇼. I DON'T Miss JAMAICA 🇯🇲.

After a DELICIOUS dinner in Nyamirambo, I had to go for a walk. I was walking through the neighborhood of Nyarutarama, and it was so serene and peaceful that I decided to do a blog and share my experiences. This moment brought me back during my childhood years in Jamaica, when there was peace and security. I feel so much at home here, and I'm encouraging the African diasporans in the West to start visiting Rwanda/Africa and embrace a better standard of living without the chaos.

This came after we went through a very dark dark time 29years ago. We were a failed state. Everyone write us off like every other typical African country on our dark continent. But we did not give up on ourselves. We did not despair. As long as we still breath us Rwandans are no known to give up.

Do you think it was possible that the officer whom you mention was involved in something other than law enforcement and got what was coming to him. Many many other officers patrol the streets at night and do not suffer from the same fate. I would be more fearful walking the streets of America as a black man.

When I was growing up as a child in Jamaica in the 1960's, we had pride, we love our country, and people looked out for one another and one another's children. As a kid, a neighbor could give you some advice and you will take it with humility. We felt safe walking 5 miles home from school when the community bus didn't show up. My dad would invite neighborhood kids who did not have a father at home to join us at the yearly festivals and fun outings. There was COMMUNITY. We weren't rich but WE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED. We held on to many of OUR AFRICAN Values. However, the materialism of the West has help to bring Jamaica to where it has FALLEN TODAY.

I too have visited Rwanda. I fell in love with this country. I also heard that they do not have a high rate of heart disease because of their diet. As a fellow yardie I walked the streets of Rwanda late and did not worry. I felt so safe. The country gave me a sense of psychological safety. Which I did not experience back home due to the high crime rate. The crime was in the back of my mind. While I was in Rwanda I was not concerned about the crime, instead I was amazed at the beauty, the cleanliness. Yard is about 2.7 Million people, to me that is a small population but the government cannot control the crime. That perplex me, yet still the Andrew Holiness felt proud to give himself over 200 percent pay increase. While they penny pinch teachers and police. Why? Is it because they no longer want to attract talented teachers to prepare the youths of today and tomorrow? I have no idea if the nurses are being properly compensated. However, when was the last time they built a new hospital in Ja? I know that they consistently build homes that are out of the price reach of the average Jamaica . Very good video of Rwanda. I sure know that Rwanda does not have the murder rate that Jamaica carries.

@GBA I sense that it is intentional. Imagine the government campaign includes 'green clarks'. And the masses that have the power to vote in the leaders of the country are victims of substandard education. As a result, the government uses this substandard education to keep themselves in power so that they, the government can continue to deliver substandard service to the people. One day the masses of Jamaican people will wake up. Long live *Kagame*. He puts his people first. Rwanda is one of the few places in the world whereby the Chinese 'investors' cannot abuse the people. They would never dare to keep two cash registers openly ( one for the govt and one for themselves) nor could they physically abuse any Rwandese citizen and get away with it!

I'm glad it is disrupting your thought process, Omar. Many Rwandans and blackexpats don't see the "other side" of Rwanda. They don't see the luxurious life other ethnicities (foreigners) are enjoying in Rwanda/Africa. In many ways, I can't blame them because many are not exposed and are somewhat closed-minded in learning new things. I'm from a poor background, and that's why I fit very well in Nyamirambo, but I also adjust very well in the country clubs... because I want to know why some people are successful and why others fail.... and the best way to know is to be around successful people, adapt, and become well-rounded mentally. Rwanda, is what's possible for many countries when they have the right leadership, corruption is low, and foreign powers are not destabilizing them (Sorry, that was a mouthful).

Nah as a Ugandan 🇺🇬 who is well aware of that practice of cutting girls hair low I have to disagree. Shaving women's heads in African schools was something introduced by the oppressor, the oppressor who didn't understand our hair or hair texture & is a hold over from the European military complex. We don't need to shave girls heads, we should go back to a time where we have the skills to look after our hair as a community.

True! I understand, I don't believe it's enforced, I just believe it's a cost-effective gesture... and if you watch RTV news, you'll realize that some girls braid their hair.

It is enforced in the school...that's they og commentary said. This is a common practice in Africa. Nobody wants to cut their hIr at that age....I had to cut my hair to go to school in Nigeria....Africans are telling you the history and you're telling us no?

  • @dugebuwembo

@@ao4618 I am a Ugandan 🇺🇬 so am well versed in that history seeing it done to my cousins etc & I say NO. Our girls over in the West are fine without getting their heads shaved, they have mum's, Aunties & friends that help them look after their hair. It's about looking after black hair not shaving people bald. Yes as a Ugandan 🇺🇬 I am saying NO, it's stinks of the European military complex. Answer this question have you ever come across this practice inflicted on white European girls in any European school? Even amongst the white children in international schools across the continent? That's a resounding NO, so I ask why we should perpetuate this practice on our own girls in African schools?

In order to effect change, sometimes what is required is honesty. There is absolutely nothing wrong with highlighting the virtues of another country, especially one that we might be ancestrally connected to and one that has risen from the ashes like a phoenix to become an African success story after the bloody conflict of the 90s’ - it can be catalytic! Jamaica is in need of a complete socio-political and economic overhaul, but first, it must take ownership of its failed system of governance as far as crime and corruption are concerned, along with the security measures associated with the cost of doing business. Crime is one of the most pervasive and damaging societal problems plaguing the island and it is a deterrent for people like myself who had hopes of returning to live there one day! I’ve lived in Africa now since 2021, Tanzania and now Zambia, and I have been forced to rethink the old adage “no weh no nicer dan yard!”

I appreciate your comments, and we need to do a zoom soon. I want the best for our island, but I will not use emotionalism and patriotism to dictate my decisions. I look at the numbers, and Jamaica's doesn't look good. So, like you, I want to give back, and I'm doing so with those who need it. No way, no better than Mama Africa.

Greetings from Montego Bay 🇯🇲. Thank you Sir for these pleasant , unexpected and beautiful scenes. I somehow have images in my mind of the Rwanda massacre of the past, and If not for this video I’d never have dreamt that Rwanda was such a lovely, orderly and welcoming society. Much gratitude to you and your wife👏🏽

I’ll be visiting Jamaica in August for a family reunion. It’s a beautiful country but the crime rate is out of control. It’s baffling why there are so many murders on such a small island. The government couldn’t care less. I guess the government will care once criminals start to hurt tourists.

You're absolutely right, as Sir.P (politickswatch) would say, "it's the golden goose." This kind of protectionist mentality of the government to focus on one industry to drive the economy, while ignoring the potential of the human capital, is nothing more than "neo-colonialism" or tokenism. The system blindsided us by waving the "independence" flag, while severely enslaving the people through entertainment, mediocre education, and loan strangulation. Welcome to, "Jamrock".

After the genocide in the mid 90's Rwanda changed several policies. They banned discrimination of certain tribal groups and names. We all can make changes, assist and improve the welfare of some people in Jamaica. We don't have different tribes in Jamaica but we have the socioeconomic class. We don't have to be millionaires to make a difference in the lives of others.

You can uplift one country without trying to bring down another! On top of that, you are showing the best parts of Rwanda and then making general statements and trying to make comparisons between two very different countries. Yes, Rwanda is one of the safest countries in the world, but Rwanda is one of the poorest countries in Africa, and it does have its own issues. The somewhat developed parts you showed in your video are not nearly reflective of most of the country.

True Shawn, but when I watch CVM & TVJ a no me a bring down Jamaica ino. It's the leadership themselves, and it's reported in the media on a daily basis. I'm just confirming the facts. As it relates to the poorer section of Rwanda, that will come along soon, and yes, Rwanda GDP per person is $822 usd, Jamaica is almost $5, 200 usd per person. So how come a poorer country outpacing a "richer one" as it relates to safety, cleanness, and developments? Simple, leadership, culture, and mindset?
