“I look up unto The Hills from Whence cometh My strength”. Wasdale Church, engraved on a tiny window in the Church with an outline of Napes Needle, Great Gable. Certainly true for many of us! Well worth a visit as you pass through on your way to Gable or The Scafell’s. The smallest Church in England and associated with a huge English Climbing History. Beautiful place to visit in Spring. 😊

Big thumbs up from me. The most joyful news I have had for months, the partial emergence from lockdown so we can all travel - a bit. I cut my hillwalking teeth in the Lake District and I have all of Wainwright's little guidebooks, rather well-thumbed and shabby but that is how they should be. I am now counting down the days to my release and a long drive north to some real hills. You can only experience hillwalking by doing it yourself and having a map in your inside pocket. I haven't walked on the Coniston Fells for years but I clearly remember a lot of the places in your video, all that was missing was the clouds lifting enough to show the Coniston Fells in their totality, as a massive horseshoe with the open end facing south and Goats Water flanked by Coniston Old Man and Dow Crag. I admit I did open Book Four to remind myself of the Goat. I have spent all winter doing coloured illustrations of my favourite places further north. Dozens and dozens of pictures later it won't be very long before I too am back on the hills to garner new inspiration and memories. My brother said thank you for your book, he really liked it. Even though he is not currently well enough to do the longest walks one day that too will be sorted out for him. He watches KZread with his laptop wired up to a large screen TV, so I hope he finds the time to find your channel, and maybe I will come across his postings in a future video!

A perfect way to end an Easter Sunday. Congratulations in finding your new home and for the Fjallraven sponsorship (I now know how to pronounce it, thank you). Great brand and I love the “environmental sustainability” behind its ethos. I feel the weather is always quite changeable and left field this time of year. I love it regardless. Happy Easter x

Lovely to see you return to the Lakes! I've had great fun up here having them all to myself but I'm looking forward to everyone returning for some summer fun in the fells. FYI, the old mining buildings toward the top of Old Man were there for slate not copper, which was mined at the bottom of the valley.

Whoa, I've hiked Old Man of Coniston once. It was the August bank holiday weekend of 2019 which was a crazy heatwave. There were so many people on our decent as we returned via the popular mines, and I was in a tank top and little running shorts... still sweating buckets. This has been a lovely contrast to watch!

Good to see you very honest, up front, and transparent in the video and comments that you have been sponsored. Too many you tubers seem too 'forget' to do this. Well done. I have attempted Old Man twice - first time I ended up helping mountain rescue with a casualty and taking them to the ambulance, second time had to turn back due to trying too soon after an operation. Hopefully third time I will be lucky.

Perfect wet weather to try a new jacket. I like that it has side vents. That feature is something I look for as it makes it good for preventing condensate from forming in cold weather and letting excess body heat escape while protecting against wind incursion.

I'm not sure whether I have climbed the Old Man. The first time we didn't make it having to turn back in a blizzard above Low Water. The second time we stayed at one of the cottages in Copper Mines Valley (where Harvey said there were holiday cottages). We went round the back of the Old Man had lunch in a hailstorm on the side of Goat's Water and then climbed up to the top (probably) The weather closed in so that visibility was about 20 yards but we did reach the OS bench mark so presumably we made it. Would love to do it in sunny weather with your Ramble Guide. All the best, Dick

Quick question if you have time, we are not very fit and we got to Low Water last time we tried Old Man, and felt we couldn’t make the top, but in this vid it doesn’t look far from Low Water, although editing can be deceptive 😂
