I'm Remaking my EPIC Beauty and the Beast Embroidery… but Bigger! [Part 1]

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Once upon a time, in a faraway land…
I sewed a thing. And it was fun. Now, I'm doing it again, but bigger, better, brighter!
The stained glass windows from Disney's original Beauty and the Beast will always be one of my favorite bits of artwork from all of their movies. A couple years ago, I embarked on my first-ever really big embroidery project (which in retrospect, wasn't that big) and started stitching the glorious final window from the movie. It took me two and a half months of pretty constant stitching to finish that piece, and it was only a little bigger than a headshot!
Since then, I've gained a lot more experience and a few more tools (or wait… maybe reverse that), and at last, I'm ready to embark on that journey for the second time. I'm going over twice the size, I'm revamping all my color choices, and I'm demanding perfection of myself. How long will this project take??

    I haven’t done embroidery in a while and my husband has been asking me why I don’t get back into it. I watched this video next to him and he heard how many hours you put into this outline. His face of disbelief was met with “that’s why”.

    Haha perfection! I think it catches a lot of people by surprise when they find out how very detailed and monotonous and long of an art embroidery is.

    i really enjoy the details. i watch youtube while i do my own art and when there's a lot of chatting from the creator, it feels like i'm not just like, in a room by myself doing art. and a longer video means not having to frequently search for new ones lol

    Erasing the pen ink with a hand dryer is such a clever idea. I always thought of it as ironing only & your method is way easier.

    stitchery: "who doesn't love a long project you go into knowing you won't be done for months?" As a writer I'm relating hard to this right now and I want to cry lol. why am I also considering picking up embroidery as a hobby!?

    Hey, when you love the long game, you can't stop yourself! I've been writing my whole life too, so I think the two crafts go hand-in-hand... you've got to be committed enough to stick with something for a very long time.

    I can imagine finishing all (or most) of the windows, in similar or same heights, even if varying widths, then hanging them up on a blank white wall as though they actually are a series of stained glass windows

    AWESOME !!! Your excitement made me excited for you ;) Really looking for to your progress on this masterpiece ;) Would there be another stitch make it easier than satin when it's a long one ? ;) Thanks for sharing ;D

  • @gettheetothestitchery

    Satin is definitely the easiest choice for a piece like this, despite it still being a tricky one to get right. Any other fill stitches like brick stitch or split stitch would give great texture and avoid any gaping on bigger sections, but would take even longer and more thread to sew.

    I wonder if using wash away sulky interfacing would have been a better option... Not that it matters now, but for the future, do you think that would have worked?

  • @gettheetothestitchery

    @gettheetothestitchery

    It definitely would work! I just personally have a major issue with getting my pieces wet, so I don't like to use anything that has to be washed away.

    Can I ask what pen you used to trace? Does it fade away with heat? Does it disappear all together?

  • @gettheetothestitchery

    @gettheetothestitchery

    2 жыл бұрын

    I use a Pilot FRIXION pen, which erases with heat, so I usually blow dry or iron it to make the lines disappear when I'm done. They can leave ghost marks on some fabrics, especially dyed ones, so I always test them out before using them on a new material, but on this, they fade away entirely!

    How did you print your pattern out? I bought your pattern from Etsy but can’t seem to get it scaled correctly.

  • @gettheetothestitchery

    @gettheetothestitchery

    It really depends on what size you are trying to make it and what programs you have available to you. I use multiple sheets of paper and print a portion of the pattern on each page, which you can do really easily by cropping the image in Preview. Then I line up the pages and tape them together before tracing the design onto fabric!

    I would love to do big projects like this but I get so sick of doing the same stitch over and over again. Do you have this problem and, if so, how do you deal with that?

  • @gettheetothestitchery

    @gettheetothestitchery

    2 жыл бұрын

    I kind of don't have a problem with it, quite honestly. I think I'm more likely to get bored if I don't have a good TV show to watching while stitching. Changing colors and angles and sections definitely brings a sense of "woohoo!" to it as well.... I do find myself getting bored of stitching in general sometimes, but I don't think I'm bothered at all by doing the same stitch for a long time.
