I have found that when my depression flares my listening to Bruce becomes almost 100 percent exclusive. I’ve always wondered if his music was created in a way that draws people suffering from depression in.

What Springsteen has done for music is legendary without question. But what he has done for people with mental health issues is immeasurable. For a famous strong, confident, male rock icon to come out and speak so openly about the disease, taking meds for same, how its an ongoing battle each day to stay healthy.......My God, what a gift. He is a gift. Thank you, Bossman.

I second this. The fact that he has been so open and candid about his mental health issues has been so helpful. I am very fortunate in that I don't have those issues myself, but for my friends and family who do, being able to point to Bruce has been so uplifting for them.

I'm in my late 50's and I suffer from anxiety and depression. Some days are good days, some not so good and some are downright horrible. If it weren't for discovering Bruce and his band and his music and lyrics at a young age there would probably be no good days at all. Thank you, Bruce. Thank you, E Street Band.

Nutrition is KEY.. all orthomolecular psychiatrists use nutrition.. we have a brain-barrier.. if you have candida in the bloodstream/bowel it crosses the blood/brain barrier and causes depression.. many books written on candidiasis... parasites, food allergies, nutritional deficiencies, thyroid issues (hypo or hyper or Hashimoto's which many Drs. diagnose as Bipolar mistakenly - heck! they misdiagnose kids who are psychic with bipolar disorder - never advancing their studies in nutrition just using pharmaceutical drugs.. which I'm not saying can't help.. but working on your nutrition is key.. Dr. Abram Hoffer was the Godfather of Orthomolecular medicine treating schizophrenia, bipolar, depression through nutrition and saving many lives.. oh and Essential fatty acids.. cold-pressed, not heated - like hemp, fish or krill oil, etc.. takes times and change of diet required.. but that is the medicine of the future.. the terrain.. schizophrenics are allergic to dairy and gluten, need to take niacin, etc.. anxiety and panic disorders are caused by thyroid issues and if not heart issues should be addressed.. FYI.. Knowledge is power.. people don't need to suffer needlessly and end up committing suicide like so many talented people have.. nutrition addresses addictions as well.. re: cocaine.. it is cut with lactose (milk sugar) and sugar - a processed highly addictive chemical.. which people really seem to be addicted to more.. Dr. Theron Randolph's books (pioneer and genius in Environmental Medicine)...explain a lot and all the issues people suffer from which are dietary.. of course past life issues can affect people too re: issues and phobias.. Lots to learn.. Keep well everyone!

2 years later...i love bruce springsteen along with millions of other fans. i love the way he treats his mother and family and gives all he's got to his audience and band. the first time i saw him on tv i was in my 50's...i melted. i have always kept it to myself because i didn't want the world to think i was a dirty old cougar. he just seemed to bring life into the world. he loves his country and unlike kid rock...he has a soft side and it's NOT all about him. i wouldn't spend a dime on a trouble maker that makes money off hate & fear. i hope his kids pick up the same hopes & dreams his mom allowed him...mental issues is nothing to hide from and it doesn't make you weak to find help. i am so glad he supports people who is going through something so personal...he is saving lives...

I've found Bruce's music relatively late in life (mid 40s). What a discography. I grew up with 90s indie and grunge and always had mistakenly lumped him in with the worst cornball excesses of the 80s. He was like Bon Jovi or something to me. Only now do I realise he was anything but that, and in the last year have come to regard him as one of the great songwriters of our time.

The sorrow is you missed him over the years and seeing the phenomenal 3.5 hour shows he did. He’s still great to see now, but each decade back was better than the one before. It’s a magical, ground shaking shows now but words can’t even begin to recapture the earlier decades. I’ve experienced the same with a few bands I didn’t give enough credit to at the time they were at their peak.

I was lucky enough to see Brice Springsteen play once. It was a great mid size venue and he played for quite a while. One thing that comes out more in these corona times is how very different it is for everybody. Abs for those suffering it really does rub it in. Interviews now often show these people at home in great environments and they often describe how good their setup and their life is. and it's hard being reminded when your on a difficult setup and a very dark place.

I've had life threatening go-rounds with depression. It used to be a forbidden topic to discuss. But without discussing it - in its entirety - we forego delving deeply into our own being and reason for being here. I've struggled with loving Springsteen's music and hating it. But, conversations such as this are very helpful because they remind me of what's important. As an artist (and someone who is hard of hearing but who loves to sing - privately - anyway), it's imperative to be reminded of everything that makes us who and what we are. It helps to drive us all forward. And it keeps my creativity and curiosity and desire to be genuine - on the forefront of my life. Thank you for this invaluable interview!

The moment I heard Born to run I was in love with his music, being Belgian I had the incredible luck to see him live twice, they will forever be highlights in my life. Bruce’s birthday is the same as my late father, so easy to remember.... being a few years younger than he is he is a part of my life with songs that make me so emotional in a good way, he touches me in the right part of my heart. I am reading the book Born to run at the moment, love the way he lets me in his life wherefore thanks Bruce. Be safe, stay healthy, bless you and all your loved ones. Love, Paula Oyen.

I have seen Bruce in concert 3 times and you really get your moneys worth with him. He's a lovely guy and I'm sure he has helped many people by admitting he suffers with depression I suffer depression. It comes and goes. I was once put on some anti depressants that made me worse. But I'm now on some that really help. I worry about elderly people during this Covid pandemic. Depression is becoming more prevalent among everybody, but especially elderly people that live alone. So if anyone reads this, maybe you know an elderly person that lives alone or anybody who lives alone, and maybe ask if there's anything they need. Even if it's a chat at a distance. That can make all the difference to someone's day. And I hope Trump doesn't get in again. But I've a funny feeling he will.
