I was the Viper this game! Super cool experience to see how despite the massive disadvantage BSJ had, he was so capable of getting his farm and having his impact throughout the entire game, definitely eye opening and super helpful to hear his thoughts on how to play against such a brutal hard counter.

Abaddon here, totally agree. Still surprised we won considering our NW disadvantage through most of the game. They handily outfarmed us. So hard to find the balance between grouping up to take objectives and farming.

This is by far one of my favorite videos you have ever made. Not only is it educational on what to do and how to think in tough match ups but it showed how humble you really are. In a world where very few people take ownership for the mistakes they make especially in the realm of Dota where it is exacerbated, it is so refreshing to see someone take ownership of their own contributions to the loss. It is clear that you are a cut above the players you have on your team and no doubt frustrating, but in the end your own self accountability and humbleness shine through which I think is more of a contributing factor to having high mmr as a opposed to anyone one skill set. Anyway I'll be watching more of your videos solely because of how graceful you were about this one well done.

What a nerd you are BSJ, knows a lot about every detail. Great video, thanks. Edit: this hard counter situation is SO obvious in high MMR, like... viper x huskar mid, sups and offlane see it as a big red light on the screen. Everbody is planning something. Low MMR players don't even notice, and once his mid feeds, starts flaming and anoying everybody. Edit2: you make low mmr players happy in this type of video. Because is so frustrating to play with guys that just randomly walk togheter and never think about anything that is not visible on the map. And even a great dota player feeds in this ultra hard situation. I feel less bad

Hope everyone in my bracket watches this video, this is how I lose like 40% of my games, people just fight them and when I try to explain this concept, they say "oh so we just gonna let them take our towers?", and I get reported. Even if they get the idea, they do it at snail speed, they have no sense of urgency as explained here

I was the razor this game, and I love this video. You can notice at 16:30 I die to ancients, and at 32:20 I cast a spell and walk towards the enemy in a situation where I should be running away. There's tons of other mistakes that aren't shown, like the laning being shit, and I don't like my pick at all. Despite that, BSJ still mostly looks at his own actions, and tries to see what he could have done better himself to increase the chances of winning this game. And I fully believe that is the way to succeed in Dota, and in life. I was called to this game about 10 minutes before it started, and I had not played for almost two months prior. I surely could have played better, and maybe one less mistake from me could have made a difference in who won this game. But that's not really what matters, unless you're me. On the other hand, just as BSJ concentrates on his own play, and takes ownership of his mistakes, I should concentrate on my play and my mistakes. This game it was easy, because from the very start I was uncomfortable with not having played, unhappy with my pick, and knowing I'm in a smurf game. Sometimes though, when I feel good about my own game, It will be frustrating to see other people making a lot of mistakes. That frustration is something I believe everyone watching this video has felt, and it is valid. However, we all know that acting upon that frustration in toxic ways is not going to help anyone. You're not going to improve, and whatever you say is going to be tainted by the frustration and become toxic. As I've heard in this very channel, you can't coach other players during a match. If you're feeling frustration, muting everyone and just concentrating on a small element of your game is a good way to open a way to better gameplay. For example, picking a strong enemy hero, and dodging them at all costs, putting pressure wherever on the map they aren't, like BSJ did in this video. Keep up with the great content about self-improvement!

idk i hate this example, viper is applying 0 pressure in lane. Why isn’t he pressuring you under tower? Any decent player would not let you walk up to the wave let alone come out from under your tower. He even has a bottle!! At the least he should shove you out of lane at lvl 3

I really needed this video Thanks BSJ. This is exactly how it feels when I'm playing and my team doesn't want to push lanes but fight when we lost the lanes or losing the game. And I ended up getting frustrated and tilted and making bad decisions. I'm starting to train myself to not get tilted in tight games and don't get baited into bad fights by my team and try to win games.

The way you explaining thing straight forward is super easy to grasp, thanks for the things i learned just from couple of your videos. Before i was getting frustrated when i die a coule of times and coud not think of solution but after this video the map movement became my friend. Just yesterday i was centaur and was vs necro pos 1 he got to 6-8 lvl and i could not lane anymore, but he also rushed BoT so i just told my team if necro is there dont fight.Pushed lanes ASAP and took some good fights the game was ez after a couple of won team fights. Before this new skills and mindset i was thinking im offlane so i should not farm and make space for the team, but now in just 4-5 days im sometimes top net worth and i'm not scared to leave my team alone for my benefit. So thanks BSJ! Btw im spamming cent like crazy and last 20 matches are 17 wins.

Don't focus so much on getting the win, the video + your message is really crystal clear, and I'm a 4k mmr. Just hoping it helps you put out more content (because you don't need the win to make a point) and be less frustrated with the team (which may make this more fun for you as well :) - Nevertheless keep this up, I can't wait to see your next vids, they are always super educational.

Very awesome to hear your thoughts. It's amazing how much I relate to how you felt during this game, where sometimes your team seems to be passively playing the game when you really need them to be pushing the boundaries across the map and make the necessary plays with you. I get this feeling a lot playing pos1 in the Divine bracket, and there are times where just like you in this game I will singlehandedly throw because of tilt despite having the ability to win the game with more patience. The summary of this video to me is that some games your team will make mistakes and winning comes down to how well you compensate for the mistakes that they make and/or being patient with them and focusing on playing well yourself despite what is happening. I guess you can't win all games, and sometimes the reality is that your team doesn't deserve to win considering how everyone is playing.

Someone like Zeus, who can snipe cs from fog, get 6 and simply gank... Would be insanely useful for any midlaner that needs to blind pick...

I can never convince my 2k teammates to avoid taking disadvantaged fights, especially when it's painfully obvious that that's the enemy team's only option. This isn't a simple knowledge issue - it's a lack of critical thinking issue. Most players cannot process information live during game and adapt to it real time.

i think the struggles are the best, most people in lower bracket can't stop games (if they do, its bc the game is easy or the opponents are bad, not bc they're good), so this kind of videos are the best ones to learn, plus in lower bracket you don't have the mindset or the skills of a 8-9k player, so, most of the time, educational smurfs where he or any other coach stomps are not that helpful bc it's a different reality, even the player understand what the guy said, he may not have the MICRO skill to apply perfectly, or the enemies know how to play so he will not have that same window to apply what it was learned.

Something I'm really curious about in this game is that you can't dodge Viper forever. The only possible win condition here is that you aggressively ward and pick off Viper's team and then push down their base off that (assuming no buybacks). That's the only chance you have at winning. If you don't do that, then eventually you will end up in a fight either inside your own base or inside their's. And while you've done your best to dodge Viper and his team, it is (largely) inevitable that it will come to an end. There's no way, I think, you win a base race. Not against a team with Abba on it.

"The only possible win condition here is that you aggressively ward and pick off Viper's team and then push down their base off that (assuming no buybacks)" This is literally what BSJ has been saying the entire video. Watch for viper to show, go pick off enemies that are away from Viper. A base race doesn't become neccessary if BSJ's team just commited to that gameplan, instead his team as well as himself made mistake after mistake after mistake and made the game very hard for themselves

One thing I'm curious about is what would happen if viper built boots of travel.

Not much, the whole point is BSJ stays one TP ahead of viper. If Viper shows bot, BSJ pushes to top tower, then leaves when he assumes viper has tp'd to react. Then BSJ tps bot, pushes, and viper is still like 20s on his tp CD. So BSJ pushes for 20s then leaves.
