+Siyanda Jola I agree. But Malema's approach is not radical. It's reactionary. South Africa needs genuine socialist leaders, not proto-fascists like Malema. The real enemy is not other races, nationalities etc. The enemy is capitalism itself. Malema only teaches people to hate other people, which only strengthens capitalism.

+David Stewart I follow up on Bernie Sanders in the US, a democratic socialist. US news socialism because inequality in the US is largely the result of capitalism. In SA inequality is a result of institutionalised racism with the black majority feeling the being the poorest of the poor. Capitalism, that is now protected by the ruling ANC party, through not serves to inflict more inequality on the majority blacks but pepertuates racism. So inequality in SA was and is a product of racism but post 94 it Capitalism by its very nature only further entrenches inequality with colour being the divide. Non racialism will not rid this country of its ills but socialist feused ideas that recognise the issue of race and racism will. Julius Malema is the closest leader that within the SA's political space that bests understands that and best positioned to tackle some of the issues this country is grappling with. You might not agree with his approach in Parly or his brand of opposition politics, but the core ideology of EFF is socialism and brand of EFF and its leader Julius Malema resonates with his target audience.

Democratic socialism is not social democracy; the former insists upon a reconfiguration of basic property arrangements (expanding economic democracy, experiments with other property or non-property/commons forms, various ways of making the economy more socially accountable), while the latter seeks simply to redistribute ex-post market outcomes through tax and transfer systems..Sanders's platform is obviously social democratic. Jose Mujica, Alexis Tsipras and Euclid Tsakalotos are closer to being socialists.
