I was tempted to buy this a while back, was smart enough to look at some soulsborne Reddit pages for reviews. This video pretty much sealed the deal that I won’t play. Also, I’ve been going through a fair amount of your stuff (just got done with your KH3 vids) look forward to watching more!

Probably a wise decision, honestly. Some people do still end up liking it. But if you're not someone like myself, who can get value purely out of morbid curiosity for games that aren't supposed to be great, it's definitely a gamble. I'm glad you're enjoying my videos by the way! Always great to hear people find a video of mine, and find it enjoyable enough to try more! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch!

I tried this game a few years back, having only having heard that it was a clunky soulslike, but when I tried it I immediately put it down due to said clunkiness. A second pass went the same way. However, a few months back, I saw Skumnut's most recent Lord's of the Fallen video, which got me interested in the upcoming sequel, The Lord's of the Fallen. After also seeing Iron Pineapple's video, I decided it was time to finally give Lord's of the Fallen a full shot and do a full playthrough. And to put it shortly, I did beat the game, and, oh my goodness, it was so unpleasant. The phrase "Clunky" doesn't do how bad it feels to control that game justice. I don't think I would have been able to push myself through to the end without the overpowered Solace magick spells letting me brute-force my way through the even more frustrating segments. And this is coming from someone who's beaten most of the soulsbourne games. However, I think there is some silver lining to this game's existence. I think The Lord's of the Fallen looks very promising, partly because it's being made by an entirely new studio named Hexworks. They had a piece done named "Out of the Shadows", in a gaming magazine called "Edge". It's really fascinating article and honestly got me really excited for The Lord's of the Fallen, you should really check it out. Oh and by the way, I liked the video, keep up the good work.

To be fair, it might feel better at 60fps. But that's more of a minor bandage than a fix. "Bearable" is probably a good word for what that would do, optimistically. Ultimately, I blame the main character, Harkin. He needs to git gud, because he's holding me back :D

@@LibraScope Ah yes, I too blame the main character but only because he wears such thicc clothes. that's gotta be heavy

Having gone through the entire game plus dlc last year, I actually feel far more positively about it. Part of it is that I just prefer the slower overall pace. I've grown to dislike how all of From's enemies post Bloodborne can feel so spammy and unrelenting, so I enjoyed going back to a more methodical game in this style that I didn't have memorized like DS2. I'll freely admit the game is janky, and unpolished in a number of places, but it feels similar to Demon's Souls in that way, with a clear desire to provide cool moments and challenges, but not always the best at execution. (I also love the fact that the evil god was genre savvy enough to not fight Harken.) A solid 6 out of ten for me. Hopefully, the follow-up will improve on it well enough to be worthwhile.

I'm really curious how The Lords of the Fallen will stack up, since it's not the same development team. It really does seem much more FromSoftware in its design. But it also feels less unique because of that. Though, I suppose that so many of the original game's unique traits are carried forward in The Surge and The Surge 2, that I don't think I'd mind just having a really good Soulslike that's very 'traditional', but isn't made my From.

@LibraScope Yeah, that's my concern too. Some of those visuals seem like some Bloodborne meets Dark Souls 3 fever dream.
