When I was younger I used to look down on cosmetic surgery but as I grew up I started to realise that people’s relationships with their bodies is so much more complicated than other people will ever know. And I find it ridiculous that the same society that makes people feel bad about their looks, is the one that will judge you for changing them to look more the way you want it. On the flip side, I think if someone becomes obsessed with what else can they change, then maybe that’s a sign that some inner work needs to be done for peace of mind. Either way, I’ve reached a point in my life where I believe what other people do is their business and they have their own reasons for doing it, so as long as they aren’t hurting anyone, I respect their decisions. After all, who am I to be judging or telling someone what to do with their life?

I think it's perfectly valid to look down on people who do cosmetic surgery. They contribute to the ill beauty standards that are normalized in society, they're both the victims and the proponents of such culture.

I have no issue of people having plastic surgery, but we have to research before signing the consent. I work in a hospital where most of the patients with complications are brought after BBL, liposuctions, breast implants and more. I saw patients that bleed to death, got intubated, very young developing heart arrythmias, necrotic body parts because of implants, developing pulmonary emboli, aspiration pneumonia during the procedure, and many more. Patients ranges from 20ish (assisted by moms) upto 60ish (assisted by children). Some are very grateful for surviving the complication and granting a second life, while others regret their decisions. I know we all have the right to do what we think that will make us feel complete or happy, but please don’t take these procedures lightly. I am from miami and a lot of people from different states do the procedure here because it is cheaper.😢

We should be more transparent and serious about the complications. There are so many people doing plastic surgeries, that it gives us the impression of safety. It's not, it's getting safer and safer, but it's still invasive.

People are quick to say "let people do what they want" without questioning why "this" is what they want. I'm not for or against cosmetic and plastic surgery, but it certainly has been used as an opportunity to take part in the pressure of beauty standards.

Speaking as someone who is half Korean, there's so much that is very cool about Korean culture, but there is sadly also a lot that is toxic. Consider the sky-high suicide rates of Korea. Relatives will openly shame young children, telling them "Your nose is so flat! Your eyes are so small!" Koreans (especially the women) have internalized American beauty standards; it began in the 80s when Koreans got exposed to more and more American film. So profits are going to doctors to "fix" young women (and men too). It's considered mandatory for future success. I long for the day when the stunning minimalist beauty of the unaltered Asian face is truly appreciated.

@yellowsheeeep Who are you talking about, the creator of this video? Kaiti is just 1 person-- even if she decided NOT to get cosmetic surgery, there would still be hundreds of thousands of women on social media who have gotten work done, and/or use filters and makeup to better fit with unrealistic & Eurocentric beuty standards. Kaiti's being transparent about it, but this kind of reception makes me wonder if people would still say that she' contributing to Eurocentric or unrealistic beauty standards if she was naturally born that way 😅

I'm fine with people doing whatever they want as long as they're honest with others and themselves about the WHY they did it. A classic one is getting a breast augmentation and claiming that they had non-medical but still superior reasons for doing it other than aesthetics. It's fine to admit that you wanted a bigger pair! Just don't kid yourself and others

I'M 39 | I stopped dying my hair two years ago to go naturally grey and it was SCARY. But everyday I see IT'S THE PERFECT COLOR ON ME! Why did I ever think generic hair dye would bring out my natural beauty more than MY OWN NATURAL BEAUTY? haha All that to say, I love how unique people look. It's a gift to not only look different but to learn to love your own features. I don't want someone to feel they aren't beautiful unless they change themselves / externally motivated. Are YOU defining the rules of how you "should" look or is someone else? But if your acne hurts, yes, soothe it. If your teeth aren't allowing you to chew and digest properly, yes, help your body. Take back control, you make up those rules. It's so much fun to fall in love with yourself at any point and after any procedure (plus it's free!).

Bur i suppose the question is.... if your identity doesn't rely on your beauty anymore, why would you go through the pain of plastic surgery to change how you look? Just because it looks nice and that gives you pleasure? But why would you care enough about your looks to change fhem with plastic surgery if your identity doesnt rely on them anymore? Maybe just for fun because you can? The way people do tatoos maybe.

Thank you for posting this, it's been so important for people to put a face to plastic surgery instead of the mega celebs never address it. I know not many straight guys post on your videos but I believe that if it's smaller adjustments, plastic surgery is better for you in the long run. Plastic surgery should not be (in cosmetic circumstances) should extenuate and not overhaul what someone has already. I think that's your case right now. I can totally see the desire for more alterations, but honestly girl, you're gorgeous the way you are right now.

i totally disagree with the whole idea of altering parts of your body which you're not confident with. its truly a struggle to accept our flaws (which, most times, only we perceive it to be one) but at the end of the day that's us! its how we've been created, so who are we to alter God's creation just because we're not happy with it? it takes time to fully accept every part of us, i agree, but isn't that the whole idea of "love yourself"? i kind of see it as a contradiction when people say "there's nothing wrong with getting plastic surgery as long as that makes you happier and more confident with how you look" because shouldn't we be practicing those feelings with our original body rather than repeatedly reshaping ourselves till we are satisfied? anyways that would be my response :D still love the honest content you're putting out! +also have to add that if one has congenital faults or has problems due to illness which requires getting surgery done then it should be absolutely necessary.

The month after having surgery, you're obligated to not move your upper half, so I became bed bound and bored, which lead to hours upon hours contemplating if I had to tell people I got surgery, if telling them was equal to openly inviting them to check my tts out all the time, if my future partners would care about my scars, if I was no longer desirable bc smol tts...Turns out my month long-suffering was for nothing once I realized idgaf about what anyone cares, I'm hot, I've got big girl problems to deal. So I guess my point is get plastic surgery if it's something you really want, who cares if others have an opinion on it and don't judge other girlies, AQUA has always told us that "Life in plastic is fantastic" and indeed it is Btw ly Kaiti

It's great that people can enhance their looks and boost their self image as well as quality of life. At the same time, it only serves to increase the gap between the beauty haves and have-nots, reinforcing to ugly people that can't afford cosmetic surgery that they'll never have that experience. It's a complicated subject, very grey. Society 🤷‍♀️

The discussion surrounding plastic surgery is very convoluted. I have a neutral stance as there are many reasons why people get these procedures. For example, someone could’ve suffered an accident and needed plastic surgery, body part created significant inconvenience in daily life (a comment here stated that they got breast reduction surgery), personal pleasure, societal pressure, etc. I believe that it’s crucial to have a vulnerable talk with yourself before getting plastic surgery. Why are you doing it? What are the risks? Will you be happy in the long run? are some questions worth considering. I also believe that there is a difference between being transparent about getting work done vs endorsing getting work done. Being honest is a noble thing to do and the right thing to do. It can also offer some clarity and reality to the question of how mainstream beauty ideals are attained and maintained. Just because you got work done doesn’t mean that you are automatically an endorser of Eurocentric beauty standards or the idea that physical beauty determines self worth. Of course if you advertise it then that’ll put you in the endorser category. I don’t think you’re an endorser, you’re just being transparent.

I literally only had braces. I don’t even call that work done. In my country it’s the normal thing to do as a child because it’s free. (As an adult it’s not) and usually your teeth get more and more crooked the more you grow. It also makes your whole face look a bit better. Actually tbh I didn’t really want to get it done because it wasn’t that bad at all but purely because they told me it would get worse, and because I didn’t know what line of work I would be doing later on in life I did it. Other then that I’m not a fan of having any work done when it comes to plastic surgery. If it can’t be achieved naturally you should just leave it. People are perfect as they are as long as they’re healthy and clean looking

i've had a nose job, lip filler, cheek filler and double eye lid surgery/brow lift. no regrets but every time i did a procedure i did think to myself that humans are silly for putting ourselves thru elective surgery and the pain of recovery.. plastic surgery is a strange phenomenon.

Personally i think that before having cosmetic surgery done you should do some soul searching. Why am i doing this, bcs i really want to or bcs people have lead me to have these insecurities that i now want to fix. For example as someone who's been complimented their entire life (💅) i do think of getting a nose job pretty seriously and that is my own decisions.

I don't mean to be negative but i don't think it's enough for a person's philosophy to be that of individualist choice. I do this for me cos i feel good or whatever. Without critical analysis. We don't live in a vacuum we live in a society. Why you feel you need to conform to this standard of beauty needs to be analysed and then you need to deconstruct it. Not to mention, if everyone gets work done then they are raising the bar for women who don't. And so you are in fact contributing to the problem at hand (society's expectations on how a woman must look). Also, one last point, but getting work done stops people from seeing the diversity that exists in beauty. There is not just one way for a nose to be beautiful. For eyes to be pretty etc. But when we get work done we are narrowing this view

I'm against cosmetic surgery but in the shallow world we live in I understand it, and I'd lie if I'd say I've never thought of it. With that being said, again just my personal opinion, I don't believe one can say they find their identity outside of their appearance while doing cosmetic procedures still. I believe the two ideas to be oxymoron.

I’m loving this series so much, just really love how you come to choose certain topics and explain them. This video hit a lot harder than I’m proud to admit, cuz I’ve been holding myself to how “nice” I look for society for almost all my life, even more so this past year after gaining more confidence and getting older. Am I catering to the Euroamerican standards as an Asian woman? Definitely, and yeah it’s something I’m not too fussed over because being on the flip side of that is so damaging as well, there’s truly no balance. But this gave me a lot of food for thought about how I should reconfigure my priorities, so thank you!

I’m not being mean, but I thought it was a given that PLASTIC SURGERY is part of the culture. I understood that the culture has a strong sense of promoting, obtaining employment and other social status based on looks. I also seen for the past several years that it’s often given as Graduation Gifts by family members. I’m aware that it’s a Billion Dollar Industry in various Asian Countries. I don’t find it shocking at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️🧐👍🏽
