    I think there might be a risk of contact with another vessel at sea. Its a matter of trust. And it seems there was too much trust expecting people to self quarantine here, with resulted in whole states shutting down. Unfortunately people can't be trusted. Who would have thought...

    Hey guys! I feel your frustration! Today myself and eleven of my fellow crew mates started a two week quarantine in a hotel in Vung Tau, Vietnam. We’re here to collect a brand new ship (Built here) and deliver her down to Cairns. Due to Manning requirements, we cannot de-man the ship when we arrive alongside in Cairns, but must enter another 14 days quarantine (Ashore) and the vessel must also be deep-cleaned before the next crew arrives onboard. I do not understand why we can’t simply stay onboard on anchor for the quarantine period and do the deep clean ourselves, so we have absolutely no idea what is going to happen when we get home....

  • @hughdickson4816

    @hughdickson4816

    Because how would they ensure that you were honest and stayed on board? Why do you think people have to go to a hotel and be locked in their rooms? The only difference between quarantine on a boat and at home is that the boat is a dinghy ride or a swim away from the shore, as opposed to a front door away. The better argument is why, if you journey took longer than 14 days, do you need to quarantine at all - but again, how do they know that you didn't put ashore somewhere? Sure you an Sailing Zatara are completely honest and law abiding people, but some people are not - look at New Zealands experience with people breaching quarantine.

    nope - and please don't think I agree with sea time not counting for quarantine either. The whole point of this quarantine has been to keep the disease contained, just like any number of other diseases in the past. Just there aren't the permanent quarantine places of sufficient size to cope with this one properly like there seem not to be in other countries either. That these hotels are largely vacant as travel has pretty much stopped makes them prime candidates to be quarantine places instead. Might be that people confined there should not be paying but that's another issue - containment is the main one and it must be done properly too. Great example here is that, in Victoria, where the state government oversaw the complete botching of hotel quarantine, the disease effectively escaped and killed a huge proportion of the roughly 900 people who have died of coven in Australia while nothing like that happened in the other states where the program was run much better. Effective quarantine works, pure and simple. Just doing to properly is not a trivial and cheap task.

If you do the wrong thing with quarantine, you go straight to jail. There is no option for you to debate your "rights". We don't have a gun culture. Our system does has its faults but in the pandemic situation it has worked really well as all contacts are traced, quarantine is strictly enforced. • @Simon-cx5fc

    @Simon-cx5fc

    @Michael Harris So firstly, they were out for 10 days, not two weeks. Secondly, there's six(?) of them and bugger all social distancing, meaning, one person getting COVID could take a could of days to become mildly symptomatic, pass it on, a couple of day for the next person etc., meaning after 10 days, people could be infected and be so mildly symptomatic, or asymptomatic and not know it. This is avoided in quarantine, because they test people during their stay for that very reason. Thirdly, the Queensland govt are being asked to take their word for it. For all the govt knows, they met up with people en route in the ocean and got it at day 8, turned up before they're symptomatic and then spread it through the community, causing another lockdown. We know that simply asking people to do the right thing in quarantine doesn't work very well. Fourthly- and this is the most important one- as far as I'm aware, not a single person on this thread saying it's dumb to make them quarantine is a qualified epidemiologist, working in a team planning quarantine programmes. Neither am I- I'm making an educated guess, however, the medical professionals designing the quarantine programme might have entirely different reasons which I would defer to rather than baselessly dispute. Whether you know it or not, the stupidest shit you've read on this thread is actually a bunch of sailing enthusiasts somehow thinking they're more knowledgeable and better equipped than scientists and doctors who have spent their lives working to the top of their fields because said sailing enthusiasts think they have "common sense". You wouldn't take serious sailing advice on rounding cape horn from someone who doesn't sail, so why would you take quarantine advice in the middle of a global pandemic from people who aren't epidemiologists?

Or, they have huge social affairs regardless of how many people they kill if they pass on the virus. That's worse than ignorant, it's murder. A bit surprised by some of the comments here about the border force and police . Every sane person knows things can change in an instant with the covid rules and responses right now and unfortunately Keith and family were caught up in just that situation. In relation to the “you said” discussion with the police officer. The police officer’s reply was correct Keith said “you guys” pointing to the police officer and the police officer or the police had not been in discussion with Keith. Keith did clarify aus gov where the police officer agreed, with Keith. From what I saw in the video rules changed, Keith (rightly so) stated his case, police took it up with the authorities, issue solved. I also noted that Keith said the reason they were coming to aus was because it was safe. The reason it is safe is because of the fast response to a changing environment and the tireless work of our police, border force and health professionals. Compare the infection and death rate in australia per capita with America , the uk or many other places around the globe. I think Keith did well in stating his case passionately but respectfully and got a result. Keith and family welcome to Australia, hope you enjoy your stay and look forward to more vids. Cheers from the NT.

    Tough rules. Saved lives. The U.K. have now introduced mandatory hotel based quarantine for arriving travellers even those owning their own properties in the U.K. The reason you’re now not allowed to go directly to your own home or stay on your own yacht on arrival is that your quarantine can not be individually policed and people are likely to relax and mix and go out shopping and mixing if they’re not in a controlled hotel or hostel. Friends returned to their Australian home in September 2020,having lived here in the U.K. since 2007, and they had to quarantine for two weeks in a Brisbane hotel even though their own home was only 20 miles up the coast. They knew this information in advance, and were at least prepared for it. It’s tough that you only get to find out 24hrs before you arrived...!
