Thanks for the info! I’m considering one of these. BTW, you can go XLR to 1/4 or 1/8 balanced or whatever for the monitors. Also, based on other comments; I wonder if you got a bad unit?? *One more followup: I'm seeing some 12s on FBMP that people are selling because they have various QC issues. So for me, this means If I get one, Ill buy new and really go over it during the return period (first 30 days) I'm also seeing a few videos on YT after searchin "tascam model 12 issues" So, thanks again for making this video and helping us make an educated buying choice.👊

havent had any noise issues with my model 12. im running 4 different units into it and its been great. The somewhat unconventional routing was a slight issue at first, but im all good now. Have you tried different cables? And my headphones seem fine.

Switched cables. Got rid of some noise. Decided to keep it. But only for routing reasons, and not wanting to ship.

@@dreadwardbernays if its still bad, u either got slightly less bad cables or a faulty unit. mine sounds great, even after routing multiple devices. edit- depending on what type of gear u using, u might need to grab a DI box or maybe check the power sources of said gear. defintely anything usb powered.

I'm considering buying a new audio interface. I'm attracted to the multi-track recording of the model 12, but the Audient iD14 mkII is also a candidate. I decided to buy audient after watching your video. Thank you. The important thing is the sound quality, isn't it? Please forgive my poor English

The Audient interfaces are great. They have nice preamps. I was considering one, when I found out about the Arturia AudioFuse. The larger AudioFuse is another option. I went with them for the preamps. They have more gain than most, and are clean. With the AudioFuse you could use an SM7B without needing a Cloud Lifter. Also great routing.

I had that Tascam 414 Portastudio as my very first recorder also

Very interesting. I’m used to a UA Apollo x4 audio interface and UAD plugins in the studio, and wasn’t planning to use the model 12 in the studio - just for mobile recording and live rehearsals. Still, the noise you report sounds like a faulty unit. Usually, Tascam is good quality. There’s no other small analog/digital mixer + DAW controller + recorder… like the model 12, unfortunately. If you’re looking for that combination of features, what are your options?

There really aren’t any other options. I figured out a way to live with it. Great as a mixer.

Nice track. Now I have pause about selling my Motu ultralite AVB to get a model 12.

Motu’s products are highly regarded. Never owned one. But, what I hear of their preamps makes it seem like they’d be superior to the Model 12’s.

Oh I would say on the pre-amp AD converter side of things most likely so, but it's a digital mixer interface no hands on-and no SD card.@@dreadwardbernays

So, I’ve been trying to use mine frequently. But, there are so many issues. The worst thing, which I failed to mention here, was the latency introduced, when using usb functions, on the MPC, and live output into my camera. It altered the timing of the track I created. This is too expensive a machine for that type of issue.

The latency in general on all of these units from Tascam is horrible. Tried the entire line out, and stuck with the Model 16 for some analog only style recordings, and I just couldn't gel with it. Sold it a few months after. @@dreadwardbernays

Thank you! I’m just sticking with my AudioFuse Rev2. The compression and eq can be applied in post.
