    Surely a professional who does this regularly would have a section of thread taps to save wrecking a perfectly good fitting. Is that PTFE really gonna hold up across those 4 cuts he’s made? Perhaps it’s a low pressure pipe and he got his fingers crossed.😔

    @@drdabsmore945 As someone that does openly learn from their work environment I can confidently say that if you're asking us how to use the thing you're asking for you probably shouldn't be the one doing the work to begin with. You're also the kind that expects us to inherently know what sizes you have for your project and crutch the word "standard" since you yourself never get the proper information you need to get the right sized pipe, screw, bracket, panel, etc. as if everything comes in "standard" as a size. Oh and the one expecting us to learn building codes since you won't as a resident/owner of the building.

    I have a residential and commercial irrigation business. Fixing hack artists work is my bread and butter. So many fly by night guys out there. It's even easier to hack it when most of the system is buried underground. Out of sight, out of mind.

    ​@@darrenmuse I give it 2 hours at normal water pressure (50-60 psi) before it leaks like a sieve. Seriously if threades are even marred badly you get leaks. Just fixed one of those this week.

    @@pear7777 Glued connections are used even on PVC pressure pipes (10 bar) so that really shouldn't be a problem. PVC glue is really strong.

    It's not even that. There is a sleeve on the original pipe, that probably was put there by the dope who made the original video. Just get a heat gun and let it shrink back to the normal diameter.

    I'm pretty sure he didn't actually put pressure on it in the video. Somebody off camera cracked the shutoff valve when he opened the valve and closed it as he was closing the valve he hacked up. I don't care how much teflon tape you put on that. It's not holding pressure for more that a few seconds at best.

    This is a good idea for my situation. Rural and broke lol. We have a lot of loose fittings laying around and would do this and later would replace it with a normal one when I get to town but the would save the day until I have an entire day to spend going out to town and coming back. Round trip is like an hour and 20 minuets.

    Don't know why people have to be such a-holes. Makes sense to me. It's the same pipe seal you get with any PVC fitting. The problem is the lost threads on the valve/faucet. If that was the only fitting I had, I'd try to minimize how deep I ground the tap slots down, just to get one or two more threads for seal strength... Thanks for growing the food, friend!

    A real plumber knows that's the landlord special. A handyman would have at least used a threaded adapter. A real plumber would put the correct connections/fittings on from the start.

    Fixed like this are okay in my book, sometimes when your up in butt fudge no where, and have no parts available you do what works until you get em. I rethreaded a bolt, it took hours to fix because we didn’t have another one and the store to buy was 12 hrs away. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

    I've done stuff like this before but it is always been a temporary fix while someone is trying to find the right size fitting that is out of stock in the local hardware store. The fix got me through my need and within 72 hours the right piece is installed instead. I'm not proud of it, but livestock has to drink.

    @@JasonW. If you're that far from a hardware store, theres a decent chance you're not close to electricity either. That means your only heat source involves lugging a gas bottle up the side of the hill to that trough. You're a lot more likely to get a leak, as well, from a deformed pipe. This is much less likely to pop off.

    @@BruceNJeffAreMyFlies I'm only about 15 miles from a hardware store. But I also have stock of PVC and brass fittings because, it's cheaper in time and gas to buy extra than to drive every time I need something. And I've got electric, gas (or diesel or LP) is the hard part to get.

    @@DonaldDump2024 // There are 99 ways to rig something but only one way to fix it right. Garden hose is not a plumbing connector, they deteriorate and the valve will pop out. When you cut a valve like that then the valve is connected to the pipe only by two turns , at night people are sleeping and no one uses water so the pressure builds up and pop the valve out . Also this whole system is wrong because he is using the wrong valve for the job. When you have 3 inches of PVC sticking out of a brick wall then you need to use a valve which can be screwed into the wall with sufficient backing so that tomorrow if a kid with a bicycle hits the valve the pipe won’t break inside the wall . The difference between doing a professional job and a lousy job is 10 extra minutes of work .

    @@justice_1337 you really don't want to remove material, because it is just a rubber hose, what stops the leak is pressure from excess material. Put on the Teflon to reduce the friction and screw it in. The more material the tighter the fit.

    Use a piece of pvc the same size as the rubber hose hose. Heat the valve treads and push it into the pvc, melting the threads into the pvc, unscrew it and use some teflon tape and your set. Try it it works.

    If you look closely at the print on PVC pipe you'll see that they switched to a different camera angle, filming it from the other side. Instead of showing the different angles, cus f-honesty, they just mirrored that part of the video to make it look like it's all one big time lapse
