Hey man :D I've accidentally bumped into the video with you pronouncing Ы xDD What I've noticed is that you keep using your lips when articulating the sound and thus pronouncing it more like something like "wei". You are not supposed to use your lips. The lips and mouth shape is in completely fixed position when pronouncing Ы. I would advise pronouncing the schwa[ə] sound (something like "a" in (a)bout or "e" in diff(e)rent), and then, while holding it, moving your tongue a bit forward. Keep moving your tongue slightly forward and backwards while pronouncing ə and you should get Ы at some point

Heh, you have good enough Russian Recently I learned interesting titbit about letter Ы in Russian. It was originally 2 letters. We had American-like letter "i" in Russian, same as Ukranian still has. So the letter Ы come to be as a combination of letter "ъ", which indicated a firmness of the consonant and a letter "i". That's kinda explains why we don't write "ы" after "ж" and "ш". Because sounds of those letters are always firm, so there was no reason to indicate firmness after them. LanguageSimp, if you interested with this kind of things, I recommend "Микитко сын Алексеев" channel. That's where I learned that Эдит: А, яж мог по-русски писать. Зря распинался получается

How to pronounce 'ы' in the cryllic alphabet. Do: ✅️ 1.) find your mouth, then open it. 2.) Draw your tongue back a LITTLE bit, not all the way back. 3.) Say the word 'ill' in English. Don't: ❌️ Pronounce it like ъуъ, уый or my personal favourite, уй :> Remember to practise it if you don't get it right the first time. I'm learning Russian and it took me some time to pronounce. I'll try to explain it from a linguistic point of view. Maybe it'll help. Pronounce the sound [i] ([и]) then move the tip of the tongue slightly backwards so that the back part of it was raised towards the soft palate leaving some narrow space for the air stream. The lips should be relaxed and the lower jaw is slightly ajar. In the unstressed position it is pronounced more like the [ə] sound. The thing is that the lower jaw is opened slightly and there is more space between the tip of the tongue and the hard palate and the alveolar ridge and the space between the back part of the tongue and the soft palate is narrow. Good luck :)

I have a friend from Poland, and I've noticed he has the same problem with Ы, as you have. It's so curious and bizarre to me, why is it such a difficult sound to make for a foreigner? Попробуй поочередно произносить i: как в слове cheese и u: как в слове moon. Ты заметишь что язык будет ездить вперед и назад, при этом находясь в верхней части рта. Так вот звук ы будет где-то посередине между i: и u:. Заметь, что звук неогубленый и сворачивать губы в трубочку не нужно. Англоговорящим незачем учиться этому звуку -- он в изобилии имеется в английском: после "л" (в английском он всегда твердый) англичанин практически не может произнести "и", а произносит именно "ы" (лытл, хардлы и т.д.), звучит "ы" и в ряде других слов (например, у Битлов "Wisdom" звучит как "Уыздым"). Так что надо просто вслушаться. По сути русское "ы" -- это "и" после твердого согласного, аллофон или дифтонг (поэтому и буква эта была ничем иным, как ЪI, т.е. краткое "о" и "i"). Поэтому у нас "ы" не может быть в начале слова (кроме заимствований), и не тянется (переходит в "и", и рифмуется с "и"). Причем важно: в отличие от польского, румынского или португальского, или, скажем, татарского, -- там "ы" как раз самостоятельный, причем напряжённый звук. В русском вообще нет напряжённых звуков и усиленных артикуляций.

Каждый раз, когда объясняю иностранцам разницу между Ы / И, использую в качестве примеров пары типа sick/seek, pitch/peach, bit/beat, lick/leak, bitch/beach. Разница наиболее похожа. Это единственный подход, с которым удаётся добиться хоть какого-нибудь успеха.

My Russian prof gave me a good tip for pronouncing ы. Smile with your teeth showing and say “eee” with your teeth remaining together, then slowly move that sound further and further back in your mouth and listen carefully for the ы sound. With some practice and careful listening it becomes fairly easy.
