Joining us on this week's I'm LIVE are four guys performing under the slogan of “chaotic world, warm music” - it's Nerd Connection!
This band is composed of four graduates of Yonsei University, one of the most prestigious universities in Korea. The beginning was almost accidental - Vocalist Seo Yeong-ju and guitarist Choi Seung-won began performing together in 2012 as part of the university’s rock band club Medusa. Then bassist Park Jae-hyun and drummer Shin Yeon-tae joined the band, and they made their step into the professional music scene with their first single "Hymn of the Birds" in 2018. The same year they took part in the Emergenza Festival, the world's largest festival for unsigned bands. After several regional qualifiers in Korea, they passed the Korean qualification, which led to the finals at a festival in Germany. With that unbelievable milestone at the very beginning stages of their career, the four have pleasantly surprised listeners both at home and abroad until now.
In October this year, Nerd Connection released their first full-length album. All 12 songs in the album are tied under the concept of "nostalgia for things gone by," touching listeners in their unique way.
In this episode, the quartet performs "21st Century Kingdom," " Hollywood Movie Star," "Waterfall," "Bamboo Forest," and "Good Night Good Dream."

손닿을 듯 가깝고 생생한 음악을 선물하는 도심 속 라이브 콘서트 [I'm Live]. 실력 있는 뮤지션들과 공연을 사랑하는 시청자들의 사랑을 한 몸에 받고 있는 [I'm Live] 230회의 주인공은 어지러운 세상, 따뜻한 음악, 너드커넥션이다.
2012년 연세대학교의 밴드 동아리 '메두사'에서 보컬 서영주, 기타리스트 최승원이 만나 이후 베이시스트 박재현, 드러머 신연태가 합류하며 2018년 싱글 [Hymn of the Birds]를 발표, 가요계 정식으로 데뷔했다.
EMERGENZA 세계밴드대회 2018 KOREA에서 우승 후 독일 Taubertal Festival 2018 출전하며 대한민국 대표 차세대 밴드로 음악성을 인정받은 이들은, 지난 해 보컬 서영주가 [싱어게인]에 출연하며 본격적으로 너드커넥션의 색깔을 대중에게 알리기 시작했다.
올해 10월 첫 정규 앨범의 더블 타이틀곡인 ‘우린 노래가 될까’와 ‘Hollywood Movie Star’는 너드커넥션의 양분화된 음악적 세계관을 대표하는 곡들로, ‘지금은 부재하는 것들에 대한 향수’라는 큰 주제로 묶여 있으면서도 서로 다른 방식과 분위기로 표현해내어 너드커넥션만의 한층 더 깊어진 밴드 사운드를 선보이기도 했다.
오아시스, 콜드플레이 등 90년대의 브리티시 록 장르 위에 서정적인 가사와 섬세한 보컬이 만나 몽환적인 분위기를 자아내며, 유일무이한 밴드로 자리매김 중인 너드커넥션의 [I’m Live] 첫 공연에는 앨범의 타이틀곡 ‘Hollywood Movie Star’과 수록곡 ‘21st Century Kingdom’, 대표곡인 ‘좋은 밤 좋은 꿈’ 등을 선보일 예정이다. 너드커넥션의 무대는 11월 12일 새벽 1시 아리랑TV에서 감상할 수 있다.
