I'm in Favour of a Uniform Civil Code But What I Really Want is Total Gender Equality: Javed Akhtar

Support The Interview with Karan Thapar - fij.mojo.page/support-the-int...
The well-known poet, lyricist and scriptwriter, who in the 1970s created Amitabh Bachchan’s angry young man character, Javed Akhtar, has categorically stated that he believes a Uniform Civil Code is desirable and necessary but added that for him, personally, the most important thing is to ensure complete and comprehensive gender equality, without any discrimination whatsoever for either the girl child or the adult woman. Mr. Akhtar also said India cannot delay giving itself a Uniform Civil Code on the grounds the time is not right. He said it will never be right because there will always be people opposed to it. Whilst every effort must be made to carry everyone along and to convince them, we cannot give a veto to extremists of any community.

Agenda wala Atheist. Didn't say a word when: 1. Palestine was recognised but not israel. India is a secular country and not Islamic country where muslims will decide whom to choose. 2. Shah Bano case 3. When asi found first evidence in 90's that there was indeed evidence of idols at Ram janambhoomi, he knew about it but leftists/liberals wanted to play politics kept muslims in dark. U can refer kk Mohammad speech. Romila thapad is a biased historian. An rti revels she doesn't even know Sanskrit 😂and has no knowledge about archeology. 5. He knows very well that congress uses maulvis for votes. Yet keeps mum. Basically congress has to prove that Muslims r oppressed in order to get muslim votes. It's better muslims should vote for owaisi. Atleast he cares about muslims and isn't a dogla like congress. Big talks about reformation of muslim community by nasaruddin shah, Javed akhtar types with no roadmap.

Javed Saab is a modern day philosopher. His rich intellect and free-thinking mind is on display here. Such clarity in his thoughts! These journalists who try "gotcha" questions should learn something from Mr.Akhtar. He handled Thapar very well.

The interview is great , looking forward to more interviews like this , I think there shouldn't be any support price limit as a student a wants to support by very small contribution as i can but i couldn't because of the limitations there ..

I really enjoy Javed Akhtar's interviews. He's a free thinker and isn't afraid to speak his mind. It's rare to find people his age who बेबाक. What I love most is his liberal attitude. He doesn't let religion dictate his words; he just says what he thinks. I don't know much about his past or his political inclination in the 70s but but in the last 10-15 years, he's become someone I always want to listen to. Most of the time, I find myself agreeing with him. I also used to support Vinod Dua, whom I still love, he is in the same league as him. Sadly, we lost him to Covid. I hope Javed Akhtar stays with us for many more years, maybe even another 20-30. Bless him !!

Loved it . Javed Akhtar sir, you hv been so clear . and respect you as an individual who has been so sensible irrespective of belonging to a religion which does not support gender equality. And to Karan Thapar however much you tried to put word in his mouth the way you would have liked to hear , you could not get it and that did surprise you.

Javed Akhtar is very right when he said that for UCC , there must be one draft. Law commission invited public opinions on UCC but there is no draft. Without draft public from various sections may be opined on UCC but they may be confused and they may have no clear idea of UCC. UCC is very complex matter and to implement is even more difficult. It seems that this issue is raised just to polarize votes of majority community and not to prepare Act of UCC. Not prepared draft for public opinion is also reason that if there is a draft of UCC , all sections of society including Hindus, Muslims , Christians, Parsis, Shikhs , Scheduled Tribes etc oppose UCC certainly.

Javed Akhtar has quashed all the efforts of interviewer to lead him in one particular direction!! He is fair and has openness of mind and thus answered freely. 7 months later , UCC draft came and actually became a law in Uttarakhand !!

What Javed says is true many of us are living in uniform civil code and it's not one community but people across communities. The curs as Javed says is to have a draft and it should come from law ministry and not some state govt which is meaningless

When you have a big problem, the best way to solve it is by breaking it into smaller problems and solving each one in isolation. So we should start with say adoption and then inheritance. Marriage and divorce are unnecessary in my opinion. Because, modern couples prefer live in relationships.

Uniform , Equal should not be only for name sake. Let there be total equality. No Reservations, No subsidies, No exorbitant taxes on products, imports to protect some domestic incompetent manufacturers. Why should one be deprived of the pleasure of owning good things... Economic parity is more important that just civil things

On the face of it, the arguments are logical but when the same is propagated by a Govt, which has not shown any sensitivity, intellectual transparency or acumen in handling complicated issues so far and are interested only on big bang introduction without much of tangible results, like in case of demonitization, GST implementation or Covid, management, their resolve in bringing UCC seems suspect
