Spooncivic That's not how it works.. It was covered in the video. We may need laws/bylaws to keep society civil, but those laws need to be enforced with discretion. If cops don't want the US versus THEM paradigm then they need to make the change. I think a lot of cops get that and are making the change, these guys/gal though... are not.

Wow, That officer completely undermined any respect that the family may have had for them. This quite obviously wasn't an "organized" league game, it was family fun. For the RCMP officer state that "I'm in charge here today" is nothing more than a power trip and completely undermined her authority and made her look unprofessional. This could have been easily settled had the bylaw officer used her head, instead of trying to bully the family our of there. Woman with a badge on a power trip!!

Just like here in the states, cops are arresting fire fighters, EMT paramedics at car accident scenes & back 15, 20, 25, 30 plus years ago a cop never would think about interfereing with a fireman or emt personel.doing their work. i thought it was not common, but it is becoming more & more common.. They do not believe in "you reap what you sow & if you sow to the wind you reap a whirlwind.because they are Godless & morality is "situational ethics" & "survivsl of the fittest" !!!!!!

That's ridiculous. Clearly the bylaw refers to organized soccer, meaning a sports league holding games there NOT a family having some fun.

Schools here in the states have no problem with people playing games on their property as long as schools out.

If there were others playing, also.. did they run them all off, or check for their permits ? If not, then it's an issue. A big one.

Ok, you need a permit for an organized soccer game. This was NOT an organized game, it was a family having fun. Organized means 2 full teams, goals and all the rest. The cop should of let them alone.

Not really. I've seen a comment about the fact that Surrey is pretty much the "Dumping ground" for there low ranking officers. Which is why a lot of them are pretty senseless. Not interested in picking a side for this one since it's a pretty dumb bylaw.

Hell, I actually went through a few of my city's bylaws the other year. It turns out that riding my bike and coasting around my local neighborhood is practically illegal. These are streets in a residential area with parks nearby that see so little traffic that there's often no sidewalk. As for the actual roads with cars going fast, I do not want to be in the same lane as them, or be passed by them driving within 2 meters of me. I cannot bike as fast as they can drive. I'm powered by my leg muscles, not by a gasoline engine. I am also small and crunchy if I end up underneath one of these cars. A lot of bylaws really shouldn't be on the books. I think they're there just because we have a bloated lawmaking / law enforcing body that's looking for more and more things to do, trying to gradually legislate every aspect of people's lives.

If you can't catch the big fish, you might as well harass the little ones to justify your existence

Ok, well don’t go to Surrey and spend your money elsewhere. There are many places that will let you and your children play soccer without harassment. Hit them in the pocket book and spread the word.

It was a family, NOT a mob of 50 people. A Park employee has show the discretion. she should have known that this family is just minding their own business playing a game and not being rowdy and by that what is her definition of rowdy screaming top of your lungs tearing up the park throwing garbage cans everywhere or just laughing and having a good time I think the Park employee was in the wrong the cops are just doing their job they will call down there so it can't blame them
