this removed all meaning to Scottish people, this is a Scottish song! you can cover them, but don't change a song that doesn't make sense in your language. Scottish is a different language, the simple greeting of 'how are you?' is changed to "Fit like 'e day m'n" it might not mean anything to you but it tells a beautiful story to Scottish people.

I think the song had more meaning when it was sung by some sort of drunken Celtic man (the original version, I mean), since the song is about someone babbling about doing the impossible for one's love, which only drunken people (in love) would say

Why are people saying that this is depressing? Just because it's a slower version doesn't make it depressing, it still has a happy and deep meaning to it. I love this cover! It was beautifully done.

i cant fully agree with that. the original is one with more confidence like "i'm definetely going to be", so it is more upbeat to symbolise that he is trying as hard as he can, this cover is the alternative meaning, so as to be like "im gonna be there for you" kind of way, so it's slower to make it sadder and more emotions-filled.

This song is a tool for men out there. After my wife and I have a disagreement, I corner her in the kitchen, hit play, dance closely with her, and it all melts away. Works every time. Once or twice a year is the key.

My wife and I went to the Karaoke Cafe almost every week for five years...everytime we got up and sang 500 miles by the proclaimers.....the crowd really got into it...especially the da da da da's 😁! We were married 38 years til she passed away last December 💔😢. A fiend of mine just sent me this version....I thought that after 9 months the heavy tears were passed. This song. Sleeping At Last is one of the greatest bands that I've ever seen. Keep making this job guys, I love it.

I am a proud Scotsman who grew up with this song. Grew up with the tears in my eyes when this song is played. Now I live in Melbourne and listening to this version got me extremely emotional. But nothing will ever take the fact away that the song written and sang by The Proclaimers will always be the original because it was a song that meant something to them. These days artists just record for the sake of recording. However, this version is probably the best version but forever The Proclaimers version will mean the most to everyone that ever listens to it.

what was the purpose of this comment? nearly everyone agrees that the original version of a song is the best, but going to someone's performance and commenting only to say that the original version is better is quite rude. SAL never claimed that his version was better, so you're just coming to tell them that you're making a comparison and that this cover is worse. cool.

***** Well at this point I can think of 51 other people who disagree with you. True what you said about the recklessness of the original being fitting for the lyrics and I didn't intend to take anything away from it I mean its a great song. Its just that I feel this version is a bit more fitting because of the emotion behind it. Plus this slowed version while taking away the reckless part the original had it puts more emphasis on the loving and tender aspect of the lyrics.

I grew up listening to this song. I am currently going through some hell and back. This song meant so much growing up and I accidentally found this version of it today. I am literally hours from getting married to the man of my dreams and I wouldn't want any one else by my side and I truly would walk thousands of miles just to be next to him. Legitimately I am sobbing with love and joy that I get to wake up everyday to him.

Never. And I mean NEVER. have I heard a cover of this song I have accepted. The proclaimers are iconic (I’m Scottish btw) and yet this version is so beautiful and gentle. This is the first time I’ve enjoyed a cover of this song. Brilliant.
