I'm Getting These Plants in the GROUND! Can I Finish Today? 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Welcome Gardeners! We still have quite a lot of plants waiting to be planting, and the amount of time spent hand watering is getting old very fast! Jason and I made the decision to push to get ALL the plants planted this week and ALL the plants on drip irrigation! My stretch goal is to finish today… do you think we can do it? 🤞🏼 Enjoy!

Hi Janey! Love watching your garden grow! I have garden envy for sure. I also had a thought for your shade garden. .install a shade sail in the center. You could install a pole by the fence to attach to and bring up to the edge of your house. Just a thought. They come in many colors too. Happy planting!

Hi Janey, Your garden is looking great! I know you just worked very hard to plant under your Chinese Pistache, but what do you think about amending the soil by adding a raised area like you did in your front garden? It would look cool in a crescent shape with the concave part toward the tree. I've been thinking about your office awning. It would be very neat if you did an awning the color of your door with your logo on it. I think black and white stripes would be too harsh and detract from the beautiful plantings at the entrance. Keep up the good work!

Hostaholic with over 800 varieties here... hostas don't require heavy shade to thrive. You can actually grow yellow varieties in full sun. They just need alot more water if in a hot climate or sunnier spot. The drip is not sufficient in your area. A good soaking every day with the hose will have them thriving!

Hosta envy here!!! Where do you live that you can have SO many hostas?? And what is your weather like? Sadly, our 100-107 full sun / dry heat summers here in Nor Calif means we can't do hostas in full sun at all. You are so lucky to be able to have all you'd like.

Janey, next time you’re in this position (and let’s be honest… you’ll always have new plants arriving LOL) just film yourself as you plant so you have the footage to use it later when you need it. That way you don’t have to wait for the perfect time. Does that make sense? We love watching you plant, even if it’s filler video.

Janey, I mentioned once before that you need to add GYPSUM generously to the holes first, fill them with water and leave to drain. Preferably you should let the hole rest for a few weeks prior to planting, while continuing to water in the gypsum. It’ll take a few weeks for the gypsum to do its job in breaking down the clay. I continue to sprinkle gypsum around my planting after planting them in. Gypsum is a cheap, effective and easy solution for clay soils! I can’t stress this enough.

As always, great video. Sweetie, you have to give yourself some credit. You have been a very busy lady since you moved into the property and with all of the many commitments you had on the side. A little tip, when you are planting in an area that doesn’t have good drainage, you can put a little gravel in the bottom the hole so that the roots of the plants do not sit in water and it helps with the drainage 😊

Omg, I would be having my coffee in that spa by sun up, robe hooks up Birks storage underneath, readying for the day, overalls laid out with boots near by. I was dreaming of the shade garden lounger on the side. Then thought of an off the post tower shower with a surround of corrugated metal and wood, for the end of the day change out, after working outside rinse off and then get in the cool tub. Sheesh, so much accomplished already with your 1 year anniversary coming up soon. Wowza, way to go team! A tip for watering at a minimum, a hard plastic lil pool under the carport, (later use for Monty)to bottom water, building some plant towers, if this abundance is going to be on going. Making a shade cloth fence to cut down on the wind tunnel effect. Also, just so top plants water on down, then ya could make a catch basin at bottom for run off and water other plants or a ground 2x4 square with a plastic tarp liner water in for your incoming plants, or place em on that hard surface under the Pistache to soften with watering until ya get em in the ground. That black top and the cement retain and give off so much heat, burning feetsies, black plastic pots and eventually drying everything out. Suggestions hopefully, helpful!

You two are a great team! Bad soil makes a gardener’s life hard! after we bought our house, I found the same thing …basically a vein of white clay running through a lot of the yard about a foot down so no drainage. Now after 37 years in the same spot, we have a beautiful garden all in raised beds in fact, I really only have a couple of areas where things are planted in the ground. Not what I expected when I bought this house, but it has turned out beautiful anyway and knowing how good you are in the garden I know you’ll make the absolute best of everything!!

I know just how you feel. I live near Turlock so same weather as you and I’m trying to finish my gardening projects before that 100 degree weather hits. I’m 80 years old and a few of these places have not been touched before. I’m exhausted. Was still planting after dark. I saw you at Greenery and just let me say Jason is even handsomer in real life. Your talk was very good and I learned a couple, of new things. I wanted to tell you about the best Mexican restaurant in town about two blocks from Greenery but you had so many people in line to talk to you that I didn’t think you needed anymore. I was wondering if you have ever visited Alden Nursery in Livermore. It’s great. Beautiful right now - full if plants. Also in September they have a wonderful quilt show where they hang the quilts from their fabulous old oak trees.

I was inspired by your hibiscus planting and went out and bought one for my garden it's called "Angel Eyes" and well not in bloom but from photos it looks really pretty. I'm taking out my peony and replacing it with this hibiscus because peonies only last a day or two max once it rains even with supports mine flop to the ground and make an awful mess. If I cut them and bring them in they last a few more days but really not worth such a prime spot in my garden for such a short window. Enjoy your day!

Hi Janey! I was reading about gophers, & found information on some plants that might help repel them. Herbs and perennials: Lavender, rosemary, catmint, marigolds, salvia, mint, and Shasta daisy Bulbs: Daffodils, hyacinth, scilla, and ornamental alliums Trees and shrubs: Arbutus unedo, buddleja, callistemon, ceanothus, cistus, escallonia, fuchsia, grevillia, hydrangea, lantana, michelia, nandina, oleander, and pomegranate Other plants: Society garlic, gopher spurge, crown imperials, monkey flower, and verbascum. Then maybe you can get some larger self watering containers to plant some artichoke plants throughout your garden.

Hoping Jason can become an expert with voles as he is with water maintenance. Enjoyed today's planting. What does Michael Glassman say about fixing the soil? Is there a solution, or will you be looking at years of "amending" the land?

Everything looks amazing! I loved the shot of the BFTW garden when you turned the camera towards the sun ☀️ by the Fig tree and we saw the purple nepeta, orange blaze knifophia, Russian sage and the lemon coral sedum. Spectacular 🎉 probably my favourite area of your entire property ❤

Good morning Janey, In your previous property I commented that I didn’t like the lemon coral sedum, but now I really love them against the purple and the orange kniphofia…breathtaking.

Everything's looking nice in the gardens Janey. Your doing a great job. Maybe move them Hosta near the chicken coop area under that tree next to that gray shed .. Seems like a pretty good shaded area mostly.. My hosta are in a dappled area and do great, but mines are in pots .. The can handle some sun, just not to much. They need good water supply as well if getting more sun. Hope this helps..

Have you heard of the Gopher Sticks? 11:23 you push them in the ground and they snare them.

I have Bit of Honey, which is very similar to touch of Blush. Planted 9 of the quart size back in April. A few of them defoliated down to maybe 1-2 leaves. I kept watering as normal and they are all bouncing back. It took forever, maybe about a week ago I noticed new growth, so over 2 months. Give yours time, they may bounce back just fine. Zone 8b/9a Charleston, SC and they are blasted with our full sun. Good luck and great job power planting! Love your videos!

I’ve heard that adding gypsum can help improve clay soil structure and improve drainage. Haven’t tried it yet but it’s what I’ll need to do as well. Your garden is looking so beautiful!

I don't know what it is about Autumn but, that's my favorite season to do a lot of planting. So glad you have Jason now to help you in the garden, and your beautiful pets to help keep you and Jason from working too hard. It's not worth it during a scorching season.

Hi! We’re constantly battling voles and gophers in our garden and lawn. They are so destructive! A bit of advice…. Get rid of them asap! They multiply soooo fast. ❤M

I have to share with you how we solved gopher problems with my dog. My husband dug it up to expose the tunnels, and my dog put her nose and sniffed down that tunnel for about 15 minutes. She would do that daily, and one day the gophers were gone! Apparently, like the squirrels, they avoid areas where dog scents are. Yes….even with living above a canyon, we also do not have squirrels visit our yard since we got the “hunting” dog. I love your videos. You are my first video I take time to watch in the morning.
