PC-21 Info From the Official Website.
THE NEXT GENERATION TRAINER
The Ultimate Training System
To train the next generation of military pilots, Pilatus developed the next generation trainer: the PC-21, designed and built specifically with student pilots in mind. With air force budgets under continuous pressure, the PC-21 provides a cost-effective and highly efficient training solution. On the PC-21, pilots destined to fly fighter aircraft do not need to transition to jets until much later than those flying conventional trainer aircraft, reducing cost and training time. To achieve this, Pilatus significantly expanded the design and performance envelope to take this single-engine turboprop into an area that was, until now, exclusively the domain of jet trainer aircraft.
Ab-Initio to Advanced Training
The PC-21 is as benign and easy to fly for the ab-initio student as it is challenging and rewarding for the pilot preparing for the front line. The capabilities of the PC-21 make it ideally suited to a very wide training envelope. It can be used from day one, eliminating the need for an elementary flying training fleet and also bridging the performance gap between traditional turboprop trainers and expensive lead-in fighters. In this respect, the PC-21 provides significant advantages over traditional turboprops and jet trainers.
FEATURES
Next Generation Training for Next Generation Air Forces
The PC-21 design ensures a predictable operating cost profile. An innovative concept, modern materials and validation with a full-scale fatigue test, result in an aircraft that is ideal for both conventional and performance-based operations. Experience with existing PC-21 customers has shown that it is possible to reduce the cost of taking a student to wings graduation by more than 50 per cent.
COCKPIT
Fully Customisable up to Your Needs
Systems integration is at the heart of the PC-21 cockpit philosophy. As an advanced trainer aircraft, the cockpit display and control systems are configured to match the latest generation front-line aircraft as closely as possible. Trainees are exposed to an operational cockpit environment at the earliest stages of their training. This enables aircrew to acquire skills that are of direct relevance to front-line aircraft from day one.
MULTI MISSION CAPABILITY
Enhanced Training for Each Phase
The PC-21 is designed not only to satisfy the requirements for basic and advanced military pilot training but also to provide enhanced training for all aircrew in the following skills: mission planning and tactical navigation, mission system management, civil flight management, electronic warfare, air-to-air operations and air-to-ground operations including radar training, simulated weapons employment and night vision goggles operation. The PC-21 is enhanced by the ability to adapt the aircraft avionics to the requirements of each phase of training. The front and rear cockpits can be de-coupled for independent operation or to allow instructor access to training modes and data not available to the trainee.

Maybe you can get a bit a smoother run of the spinner if you rotate it (spinner only w/o backplate). A bit trial and error might improve the situation. Mine wobbled a little too. The prop offered by SM should actually be a perfect fit for the SPT10. I used it on my K100TP without issue. Varioprop looks better though. Many also use the Falcon Carbon 5-blade. Tried that one too and stayed with the Varioprop 24.1" in the end.

Stunning, FYI the P&W exhausts are actually offset/rotated so that one points down and the other up on all Pilatus installations - apparently to offset prop wash

@MJ-td3ij

That's a similar thought I had however: The P&W pipes are angled so they don't cook the wing from the hot exhaust. Ask me how I know this...
@Skinflaps_Meatslapper
Жыл бұрын
@@MJ-td3ij Their aim is to simply to make both exhaust trails track straight back along the fuselage in a predictable manner, for two reasons. One, you get a small amount of thrust from it to offset those huge pipes hanging out of the side, and two, so aircraft designers (and turbine conversion companies) don't have to worry about exhaust going over things they don't want it to. Some aircraft have cabin air vents at the wing root, some have other sensitive stuff in that area that you probably don't want hot exhaust on, like fuel caps and acrylic landing light covers and whatnot. The opposite side is actually pointed down to prevent the exhaust from spiraling up into the windshield and cockpit area. The faster the aircraft cruises at, the less those stacks have to be angled because in an aircraft-relative viewpoint the exhaust is traveling much faster across the plane. It's still corkscrewing just as fast, it's just happening further behind the airplane. Much has been done aerodynamically with those exhaust stacks too, both to improve speed and to reduce soot deposition on the fuselage. Straight stacks are common on most PT-6 applications but they're far from the ideal shape.
Nice job Jon looks great a nice set up trays etc. Mmmmm that Spinner is a bit of a bummer maybe a bit more balancing might be in order not Hard to do especially if going to higher RPM ( Had and Extra once with Scale Spinner tried it before a Balance and it started to rip engine of mount and even after balance still wasn,t great fitted standard Spinner in the end) ya probably looking at 6 to 7000rpm. Yeah Vario,s great peice of kit. Looking forward to the next kit. Must be scary when ya used to Suck and Blow and ya currently got a Meat Cleaver up Front ;0) be well Carry on.
@thelightersideofrc
Жыл бұрын
Thanks Nick. Yea. I'm going to rotate the spinner to see if it gets better. fortunately it's carbon, weighs almost nothing and all the fastening mass is on the backplate. This is probably the reason that skymaster suggests that it is ok to run.

Hi Jonathan. Hope u well. I had to dremel the spinner gaps larger to ensure the prop does not touch it. After that it ran 99% true and still is. My K60TP turns the SM prop like u cannot believe. why is the engine mounted at an angle to the centerline of the aircraft ?

Thrust line compensation. couple degrees of down and couple degrees to the side. Without it, wouldn't track straight.
Am I seeing this right? It looks like the engine is slightly aimed to the right of the center line. When you balance the plane for CG. Did you use half a tank of fuel or empty??
@thelightersideofrc
Жыл бұрын
Yes that is correct. Your eyes aren't playing tricks. All prop aircraft have this. It tends to be more visible on something like a turbo prop as the power section is so long. I always balance for CG in landing condition. So about 1/4 tank of fuel in the main tank.

Your battery connector layout is stupid. Make all 2s red, why the hell would you choose a different color for the other side? And why would you use more than one 2s anyways? It would be much better to connect the batterys 2s3p on a bus and use fuses to prevent overcharge from eg. landing gear. Much safer. And use an arudino to monitor voltage and refuse to gear up if battery is below 7,57 or something like that.
