Don't forget that Ewan was a producer on the show, pushed for it to be made, and went put saying how great it was, and calling people out for being racist regarding Reva. Had really hoped he would have done better and stand his ground into the legacy of the character he obviously loves.

It's the same when any movie with a black lead fails they'll say it's racists review bombing, but somehow those racists just forgot about movies like Black Panther. Compare their treatment of the MCU with infinity war and endgame, with the shitty sequels. Night and fucking day. The Batman, Peacemaker, Invincible, The Boys, Gen V, Guardians 3, Loki, Superman and Lois, My Adventures with Superman, Across The Spiderverse, and TMNT mutant Mayhem wouldn’t all be critically and/or financially successful if fatigue was the issue. There’s no fatigue, people are tired of the formulaic, unoriginal, and inorganic films marvel have been making. But the genre itself people clearly aren’t tired of.

Kenobi should have been an Emmy-worthy show. Darker, dramatic, character study with action sprinkled here and there, each episode with a flashback to prequels-era and related to the theme of the episode, with Kenobi slowly regaining his connection with the force and have Darth Vader in parallel hunting Jedis with the Inquisitors. You can even have some side plots with Cody hunting Obi-Wan to finish the job, Kenobi and Owen drama, Vader being ruthless, Palpatine stripping even more of Vader's humanity, etc. They had the perfect recipe for an amazing show, all the returning characters, all the stunts coordinators to make dope choreographies, EVERYTHING!! And they just threw it all into the trash.

They don't understand character, plot, dialog, tension, or anything else that builds a good movie. They understand money, actors, power sets (mantleship), and The Message. That's about it.

Disney’s motive was told in their writing in the sequel trilogy when Kylo Ren said “Let the past die. Kill it if you have to.” That single quote is why they treat the old characters like trash. It’s definitely designed that way on purpose

Star Wars was dead the day The Last Jedi dropped. That was the literal death of Star Wars. Anyone who has been watching it since is part of the problem.

The the biggest frustration I have with Disney's star wars is how tone deaf they are. I have never seen a company be so incompetent about what it's fans want, and then spend millions of dollars to put out a movie that no one wanted, and wonder why it failed. You can't just sacrifice literally everything else in the movie to be "diverse." You've destroyed the reputations of your legacy characters, and you didn't give any depth to the new ones. The force awakens actually had a TON of promise, there were a lot of things they could have dived deeper into after that. Kylo Ren could have actually struggled with killing his dad, where the act ends up having the opposite effect. Rey could have struggled with the idea of who her parents were and struggled internally with wondering why they abandoned her. Luke could have seen the darkness in Kylo and tried to do the same thing he did with Vader, but ultimately fail, and not be able to live with his failure. Leia could have had an arc with her son where she tried to bring him back and ultimately became a martyr to try and bring him back and he realize what he's done after it. Finn could have had an arc with him struggling to deal with the things he did as a storm trooper and have it ultimately end with him having to confront Phasma. The sequel trilogy could have had a story with themes of Identity and your Heroes still being human. It could have been on par with the prequel and original trilogy in terms of themes and storytelling. Instead we got "Somehow, palpatine returned."

As Tim Burton said, "Disney is only interested in making money than making actual art."

Yassss, this is what I've been saying. It's like they've been content to coast on what engagement they can get from minimal effort rather than maximizing profit. As you say, Kenobi was something that had tons of fan interest; but instead of putting a lot of care into the show to make sure it was a huge success, it was like they didn't think they had to do as much since the name and promise of Hayden & Ewan would bring people in.

You’re spot on. Disney is more worried about pandering to their diverse overlords than making good content.

When Theory says “Why didn’t Dave Filoni and John Favreau get to do the ObiWan series?” I can tell you why. It’s because LacasFilm under Disney is addicted to this trend giving the writing duties to the latest flavor of pop-culture filmmakers. They always hand it over to them like some bonus perk to pad their ego about getting to direct the film or show. People with actual screenplay writing experience or Star Wars novels writing experience get completely ignored. And they don’t care that these filmmakers may have a very shallow understanding and appreciation of the lore (and sometimes also the characters). They don’t care that when it comes to writing some of these pop culture filmmakers can be outdone by amateurs and even KZreadrs with little or no budget. They keep doing this over and over again! Like an addict who can’t see how their drug addiction is dysfunctional and ruining their life. Even when you show them and tell them as plainly as you can get. They don’t get it. And Star Wars will continue to lose fans and money because of it. Star Wars will continue to suffer for it.

You can tell pretty much everything you need to know about a star wars fan judging by their opinion of Andor. People like Theory that call it boring have no appreciation for good writing and world building and only care about fan service cameos and lightsaber duels. How anybody that calls themselves a star wars fan could be bored by Andor is beyond me. Seeing a grounded story about the rebellion with incredibly interesting characters like Luthen is something I always wanted from Star Wars.

for me Andor was amazing, never saw the Empire as competent and fearsome until I watched Andor. If the whole Star Wars made original and creative stuff like Andor, that would be amazing honestly. I had zero expectations going in, but am extremely glad I watched it.

What’s the problem with a large group of fans rallying behind Andor? That’s the closest we’ve got to universal acclaim since Rogue One. Call it bad luck that the most competently made TV project has the slowest pace and isn’t as accessible to all ages, but it’s still a good product.

The only possible reason I could think of why they did that budget for Kenobi is the fact that they knew they have the big names and knew people would flock to watch the show no matter how dead the script maybe. This meant that theoretically they would make a massive profit

Star wars theory really really tried his best to enjoy the new content. And gave it more credit than it deserved. This is wild!

This is an older video, but this is the first time I'm seeing it. I just want you to know, thank you for fighting for the Star Wars I grew up with. My earliest memory is watching the Phantom Menace in theater with my Dad on release day. I also gave up on ever getting a high quality neopixel lightsaber as I felt every company was just pushing out the same generic junk until I saw the effort you put into the fonts and blade profiles and hits in your theory sabers. Needless to say I will be placing an order soon for a lightsaber. Thanks again for fighting for Star Wars!

Well said mate, I'm with you. Disney have gone out of their way to destroy what we OG Star Wars fan's love with a passion. I wonder if George would have sold it knowing what has happened now. I literally watched 2 episodes of She Hulk and that was 2 episodes too much. There is little Hope left in me that Star Wars will ever be what it was prior to Disney taking it over.

I always wanted to know… how does it feel to be 52 years old? Or 50 years old in general? I’m 26, and I’m beginning to feel „old“. The youthful flame starts to diminishing, getting faster a beard and need way more sport than 4 years ago. Maybe a weird comment from my side, but letting go is a universal lesson and maybe the most important in life. Because I’m sure, at some point i also need to let go my older body and accept my new older one. Same goes for my psychological state .

I was in a college class when we found out Disney bought Star Wars. Everyone thought I was crazy when I said they would literally ruin the entire franchise. They did.... its so sad because everything could have been so much better. The only worth it thing in Kenobi was the conversation between Vader and Obi Wan. Kenobi: "I'm sorry Anakan.... for all of it!" Anakin: "You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker... I did..." That was such a chilling moment that made my hairs stand up. The rest of it could have been written so much better.

We had Andor, Rogue one, season 7 clone wars and Last Jedi, who the loud Majority HATE. But,t eh reviews on letteboxd and everywere else say different. Also, force awakens isn't hated either. Tales of the Jedi was pretty good imo, so was the Mando. Its just rise of Skywalker, book of bobba, seas 3 mando and Kenobi that bring Disney down. But to be real, if we give creativity bankrupt fan service like Ashoka, Mando s2 and Kenobi, Star Wars will just keep going down.

When I think about the Kenobi series I think about the scene where they couldnt pass a checkoint because it was blocked. While 5 meters to the left and right the checkpoint ends and they could've passed that 😂

I never cared that disney bought it. Same with Marvel, its not hard to understand a product you just bought..or at least try, but once this Feminism woke racial crap started to come into these shows and movies I lost faith. Specially when it became a priority over Budget/Writing/Directing/acting and literally everything else. KK can get fucked and needs to stop being the main person who makes decisions.

Andor was the most consequencial piece of worldbuilding SW has received since Disney's purge of the EU. Seeing fans calling It "boring" makes me think that maybe we indeed have a problem with the fandon on top of all the internal Lucasfilm issues. Star Wars is way more than Jedi and action, but some people seem to reject anything that does not include planet killers and lightsaber duels.

There’s an irony to all of this. - Not being willing to pay writers nor give them time. Give them a hut, endless material to reference their writing to and a couple of years to write, and you won’t have to compensate tens of millions in effects for bad writing. It’d be significantly cheaper just to do it right. And it’d earn them more simultaneously.

Nearly everyone, including Theory, is getting this wrong. Disney IPs suffer because their studios are ran by narcissists that don’t love the product and they give projects to directors that fit their viewpoints to promote their vision or handed to someone that is inexperienced or incompetent. Filoni, the man that was believed to save Star Wars, is largely the latter (incompetent) but has streaks of the former (narcissistic). Nearly everything of the painfully slow plot of Ahsoka reveals he doesn’t understand live action filmmaking storytelling or pacing, he can’t direct an actor in a scene as well as a voice actor in a studio, he doesn’t understand how governments or militaries work, he can’t convey the genius intellect Thrawn is purported to have, and he thinks his original characters are far more important on the galactic scale than they are. Luke Skywalker would’ve been a much better fit to be a driving force in this show, but that doesn’t fit Filoni’s vision of Star Wars. In his mind, Ahsoka is the undying, unifying figure of the Skywalker timeline. What a travesty. Filoni is the best of the worst. Star Wars is dead.

The Kenobi show was literally a home run for Disney. You had Hayden and Ewan back ready to act their asses off and they still fumbled it. Gives me 0 faith in their future projects.. and don’t even get me started on the book of bobba lol.

I feel your pain.They really need to focus group different ideas and plots instead of just letting literally ANYONE do a show with the characters that don't have the feel of George's vision.

I have been waiting so long for this. Thank you for speaking out! I know that you've been trying to toe the line so that Disney doesn't come and try to shut you down/etc, but at this point, it's a lost cause trying to work with Disney. Until they massively overhaul their management then no good decisions are going to be made. Kathleen Kennedy has to go. End of story. It took you long enough to be done with Disney Dude, keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully, the right people will listen and make the change that we desperately have been waiting for. Keep up the fight! Totally agree Disney needs to put a lot more money into getting much better writers. They need to know and hopefully love & respect the story they are adding to. Respect to you for speaking this. Seeing what was done is upsetting. I totally feel you. Many of these shows have been disappointing. I was so excited about Kenobi, and then so disappointed. It was more like Reva’s show. And so much of it was just stupid. What a wasted opportunity, they could have done something amazing. I have myself at times wondered if they are deliberately trying to ruin Star Wars cause I don’t understand how ppl can continuously be that bad at their jobs. They don’t understand Star Wars or the characters. I mean look at what they did to Luke in the sequels, it’s criminal, they just ruined his character. The whole thing is just depressing. And then they want to blame us fans and say we are toxic. Lol, how are you going to blame the consumer for not liking your product? That’s not how business works. If the consumer doesn’t like the product, you improve it for I find a product they like. But not Disney, it’s our fault their movies and shows are crap. I mean it’s so insane it’s laughable. I never fell asleep during Andor, and enjoyed it immensely considering its place in the timeline. Other than that I agree with most of everything else you’ve said aside from some of the foul language. Keep up the great work and I appreciate your thoughts.

They are doing focus groups, but with the wrong people. They are trying to appeal to non-Star Wars fans who weren't going to watch anyway. What they need is to focus on the fans. George was better than this, but let's not pretend he was perfect.

Love this! Glad to see YOU venting. Everyone else started long ago. I'm not sure what comes next for Star Wars. At the least, I expect the volume of content to drop significantly. Andor for example. Down to 2 seasons. The best thing they've made gets no love, why would we expect things to get better.

Thank you for speaking out. It makes me feel better to know that real Star Wars fans have similar feelings about what has happened to the franchise since the company was sold to Disney. One day everything will change, we all hope so desperately…

The only option to great Star Wars return back is to Disney sell Star Wars to some smaller company that is more passionate about making great Star Wars movies, than to show political ideology to please your Blackrock investors. Disney has focked up Star Wars and Marvel so bad with their greed, that they arent making any profit from them anymore and propably needs to sell thoese companies then. They were stupid enough to not realize that showing your political ideology in your movie dosent sell at all.

She's the face of Lucasfilm so naturally she gets all the blame, but I suspect she's not the most responsible for the downfall of SW. Kennedy used to make great movies (the original Indiana Jones, etc) so she knows how to do things. Of course she doesn't understand Star Wars, but I think the whole problem is Disney and Bob Iger meddling, trying to mold Star Wars into an authentic Disney franchise, which it's not.

I feel you Theory. Personally, I've reached the point of apathy. It's gotten to the point where I can't even enjoy the shows in isolation because all roads lead to the Disney Trilogy. I can enjoy things that happened before, i.e. Clone Wars or Rebels. I still think Tales of the Jedi has been the best thing Disney Star Wars has put out. I also think Filoni isn't this big saviour people make him to be. He's fantastic at telling animated stories, but he gets seriously exposed as a writer and filmmaker when it comes to live action. I think they need to time jump 500-1000 years in the past or the future and bring us new stories. Clean slate, where the Skywalker name isn't a thing.

My absolute favorite movies, books, lore and fan theories since childhood has been star wars...Feels like an intentional betrayal by the people in charge ..its probably not but it leaves you feeling like what in the F is going on? but i've been waiting since the last jedi for a change at the top .....anyways disney star wars is not canon and doesn't exist as far as i'm concerned. I would've been interested in a show maybe around a more adolescent Leia, learning politics, becoming the rebel leader we know she grows into. Political/spy thriller, like Andor. Really show the cruelty and tyranny of a powerful Empire and how that shapes Leia into her future self. THAT I'd have found interesting.

ob1 was always about others though. like in general. his character really was defined based on his escapades in helping others. from episode 4… and all the way through our time line of movies released. it was only fitting really. not withstanding, disney is making a mess of simple things, but let’s be real, ob1 isn’t that bad by comparison to episode 7 through 9.

The ignorance was that they thought they could slap the Star Wars brand on any POS and it would rake in the cash. They thought they could stick their crappy characters in the Disney parks and it would make money. They thought they could build a hotel and it would make money. Soooo wrong. It feels like sabotage.

You are not alone, I feel the same way, maybe one day they'll get tired if loosing money and sell the franchise to someone who will be able to handle it properly.

In Andor’s defense, it had twice as many episodes as Kenobi and many more moving parts. Clearly this shows us that you get out what you put into these projects. My assumption is that the higher ups at Disney EXPECTED diehard fans to watch Kenobi solely for the love we have for those characters and decided “screw it, 90 mil budget will be good enough.” Clearly it wasn’t good enough if fans are this disappointed now.

You could clearly see who was an A list actor like Ewan, Hayden and a few others while a lot of them seemed to be not very good at acting or the very least put a barely convincing performance

A show where the protagonist is a big cgi woman for almost all of it has a bigger budget than a show with real actors and mainly practical effects well I’m shocked 🙄

I respect that you stayed with them for so long and didn't want to lose your hope. Thats hard to do. Seeing your hurt reminds me of my disapointment with the force awakens and transformers etd, and all my other childhood nostalgia that was treated recklessly. They will never learn. Its so sad.

Ya know what makes this worse? They actually KNOW what they're doing and are doing it on PURPOSE! They purposefully degraded all of the prequel and OT heroes in order to elevate their original characters. Boba Fett - Fenec Shan, Obi-Wan - Reva, Luke - Rey.

The problem with Kenobi became apparent in the interviews when a random actor was sitting in between the two stars of the show. Why they would try to insert a new character between Darth Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi is to this day completely baffling!

None of the press interviews featured Reva's actress. You're making something up that didn't happen. This is why we were all so caught off guard by the series in the first place, so stop trying to make yourself seem special like you noticed something the rest of us didn't. The fact that most people still had a tiny bit of hope and believed disney would do it justice ine day is just amazing, the fanbase really tried giving it a chance and support, mando started out really promising, then they fumbled it, and then everything, boba, ashoka. They fumbled what could have gone on and on for many years, but i guess its just too much to ask for something true to its lore/stories. I was done after boba series came out. They made him into something he wasnt suppose to be

Growing up in the 2000's i remember seeing all 3 prequels in theaters, and it was a big deal. These films would come out 3 years apart and the whole world would recognize a new Star Wars film hit theaters. The last time I got that feeling was with The Force Awakens and Rogue One, after it became apparent that Disney would be "Marvel MCU'ing" content frequently, the spectacle wore off, I'd say The Last Jedi/Solo combo was the death of that "Star Wars feeling."

I don't think the issue is so much that it use to be an event and greater time elapses as it is that they made a boring story made for modern times trying do the female empowerment stuff like they with everything these days. Its just so hard for them just accept some shows core audience are men. Why do you think Barbie was such a big hit. They catered to their actual audience. The people that want to see Barbie. Now imagine if they made that movie all about Ken instead. How would that not upset fans. Like they did with Masters of the Universe. He-Man was there for 2 episodes. After that, all female cast. Its insane how far they go these days with that.

@@Alex-02 it's a problem when diversity is the priority and not the story. And they absolutely made diversity the focus of all the new Star Wars movies as with everything Disney made. Hence why South Park's into the Pander verse was so spot on and funny. Because that was their point, to message people their ideology, not tell a good story that people will enjoy. It's no longer about money, it's about power. The power they want is all those eyeballs on their stuff. Once they lose those eyeballs though, they lose their power. They weren't mad when they have been losing money all this time. No, it was when people enmasse stopped watching that, they said... uh oh... and back tracked. Realize these billionaires already have all the money. It's all the power they want next. It's not about money, it's about pushing a narrative. Its propaganda now.

We also don’t need a show for every single individual character. They just pump out garbage thinking that’s what we want. The same time period, when there’s an entire man made universe with thousands of years of endless characters and stories and they stick with the empire every time. Made boba into a weakling, killed off major plot characters to make room for new shitty ones that don’t even have to struggle before gaining power or abilities. They even managed to make the clones look cheap asf.

Oh I've given up long ago. TFA released, SW died to me. I used to be pretty much like you, knew SW universe inside and out, been so many years I don't really remember anything. The main reason I turned my back on it was Disney butchering and erasing the entire Expanded Universe...

The Obi Wan series was the last thing i watched from Disney. That was just it for me. That was when I finally accepted that they just don't care and it's not going to get better. It's a real shame. I miss how I used to feel about Star Wars.

For me it was Ahsoka. I'm finally there. All hope is gone, at least for me. I think we all miss that "Star Wars feels" that we used to have, I think that's why there are dozens of videos and thousands of us getting together on KZread to bitch and complain. It truly shows - at least for me - how much we love this franchise.

I was furious with what they did to Boba, was bored with Obi Wan till the final fight, by goodness that was awesome, other than that....I haven't really enjoyed any of the star wars material they've created besides Rogue One, and I likes Solo, but Rogue One was definitely good. Why George Lucas, why?

it is actually disgusting having to see disney absolutely ruin star wars. my guess is that keanu has wanted to be in a star wars production and figured better do it now before it gets worse. but how dare they take such an iconic sith and put him up against the most incompetent and untrained jedi. doin everyone dirty

I remember the actress who played The Evil Queen in the show Once Upon a Time (which Sam Witwer also starred in) said during an interview that since they are allowed to incorporate so many Disney owned properties into the show that she would love to have Darth Vader on the show and fight him with magic and honestly that sounds better than most recent Star Wars projects.

This rant made me feel good that you actually feel so passionate about Star Wars. I'm with you man

Bro, I feel you over 9,000%. They destroy the most iconic characters and shove characters we don't care about in our faces. Disney's dropping the ball hard. Seth MacFarlane knows more about Star Wars than some of the goons they have working on "cannon" SW. It sucks that Disney doesn't care about the fans anymore. They just don't. It's infuriating.

Sorry I am a Jonny come lately with this but I finally got to watch this video (it's been on my To Watch List forever). First of all, dude, I love you because you are what a true fan is all about when it comes to these franchises. You live and breathe these characters and stories, you know the lore, you've followed them all from beginning to what looks like will be the end soon. You, and the the millions of like fans out there like you, are who these movies and shows should be geared towards and in doing so, new fans will emerge. It seems like a simple premise but as we see it flies right over the heads of these executives who are unfortunately the stewards of these beloved franchises. I feel your pain. It hurts because you love these characters and stories ,but the company they are owned by does not. I used to be a Star Wars fan right up until when the prequels arrived. For me once they started to explained everything, that's when the overall story began not to make sense so for me the spell of wonder and admiration was broken then. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever envision "them" making Star Wars worse from then on out. Even though I jumped ship way earlier than you did (which I don't think you have and good for you for that), I remember the pain of disillusion and disappointment I had seeing something I loved be ruined so bad. I like your channel and have admired it from a far for a while. I'll continue to follow. I just wanted to share my thoughts with you. May the Force be with you, my friend.

I appreciate you being a real one and sharing how you feel, it hurts to see the franchises you love fall apart and crumble right in front of you.

I have been waiting so long for this. Thank you for speaking out! I know that you've been trying to toe the line so that Disney doesn't come and try to shut you down/etc, but at this point, it's a lost cause trying to work with Disney. Until they massively overhaul their management then no good decisions are going to be made. Kathleen Kennedy has to go. End of story. It took you long enough to be done with Disney Dude, keep doing what you're doing. Hopefully, the right people will listen and make the change that we desperately have been waiting for. Keep up the fight! Totally agree Disney needs to put a lot more money into getting much better writers. They need to know and hopefully love & respect the story they are adding to. Respect to you for speaking this. Seeing what was done is upsetting. I totally feel you. Many of these shows have been disappointing. I was so excited about Kenobi, and then so disappointed. It was more like Reva’s show. And so much of it was just stupid. What a wasted opportunity, they could have done something amazing. I have myself at times wondered if they are deliberately trying to ruin Star Wars cause I don’t understand how ppl can continuously be that bad at their jobs. They don’t understand Star Wars or the characters. I mean look at what they did to Luke in the sequels, it’s criminal, they just ruined his character. The whole thing is just depressing. And then they want to blame us fans and say we are toxic. Lol, how are you going to blame the consumer for not liking your product? That’s not how business works. If the consumer doesn’t like the product, you improve it for I find a product they like. But not Disney, it’s our fault their movies and shows are crap. I mean it’s so insane it’s laughable. I never fell asleep during Andor, and enjoyed it immensely considering its place in the timeline. Other than that I agree with most of everything else you’ve said aside from some of the foul language. Keep up the great work and I appreciate your thoughts.

​@@CharlieHeppDisney is ruining EVERYTHING they own. Not just SW, I mean, look at what they're doing to their own classics! They're gonna keep doing their shitty soulless live-actions just to insert politics on them and destroy beloved characters. If they don't give a crap about their own legacy, how do you expect for them to care about George Lucas' legacy? It's seriously so infuriating and pathetic everything they're doing. They need to demolish that company and start all over again with people who care about these franchises.

I was at the book store yesterday and i saw maybe 6 legends books not having got into that part of star wars yet but hearing about it made my eyes light up and i almost committed to getting one but didn't for a few reasons one being Disney i know I'll love the books when i evenly read them just not now

“DISNEY IS DESTROYING STAR WARS!!” and the sky is blue bro. I’ve been tapped out since 2017.

Hopefully Disney sells the Star Wars IP and everything they did gets decanonized

My Biggest hope is putting the star wars into the far future where a person finds an old Sith Holocron and shows how a person with unbridled power can come from being nothing into something. That movie could go so far because you could play it anyway, make a hack and slash, thriller, rags to riches whatever.

I’m with you bro ✊🏼 it’s an absolute travesty what Disney has done with some of these characters. They just continue to push their agenda.
