It's interesting to hear about some of the superstitions in the Malaysian culture. Not sure if this is related but a fear a lot of kids have is fear of the dark. That was my fear as a boy. My parents kept the hall light on at night and I would keep my bedroom door open part way to let some light in because I was afraid of the dark. I eventually outgrew that phrase and the dark no longer bothered me.
