Hi, I'm a Swedish old man of 75 young years. Have seen and heard many bands live during the 60s-70s-80s. Thought most things since then were not good. But a big BUT, started listening to Japanese bands 4 years ago. Shit, rock music was back. Band Maid my big favorites and hope with yours support that they will succeed. Your joy is contagious. I've got two years on you and I felt exactly the same way. Japanese bands, and especially female Japanese bands, have become the keepers of the flame for the rock genre for all of us die-hard older rock fans. The last 5 years of listening to and watching Band Maid, and them seeing them live 3 times, has cemented my feeling in the matter. They are the best thing to happen to all rock genres since the mid-to-late 1970's. And then when you add in groups like Nemophila, Lovebites, Gacharic Spin, Doll$Box, Trident, SCANDAL and even some older groups like Stereopony, Girlfriend and others, it's just miraculous.

I've been following Band-Maid for the last 8 years and have repeatedly been amazed on how talented and dedicated they are in making the best rock music on the planet. There are other great Japanese bands out there of course, but Band-Maid is my favorite as they made me realize that Rock is not dead, it just regrouped and moved to Japan.

They have changed up this video ... most seem to think it was to show MIKU's progress on guitar ... but the old version features a MISA MISA MISA bass solo to start. PLAY was originally written as an instrumental, but Saiki liked it and asked MIKU to add lyrics, and here we are :) . This song is very popular and has been part of every live performance since it was written I believe. Many BAND MAID songs have subtitles ... even some of the older songs like THRILL and CHOOSE ME have had them added since KATE was MAID for Netflix. This is also the song that MIKU's epic "SAY" comes from. They toured here in the US in 2022, but the 2023 10th anniversary tour here was even more extensive. MIKU is a genius lyricist. Sing along, or crowd participation sections, are written into many of their songs.

At almost any point, you can pick out one of them and concentrate on them and still feel the whole song. Hello from England. Love your reactions. You really pick up on the JOY that they bring. Two years ago, aged 68, I was stranded in a musical desert. Then I discovered reaction videos and I watched young Americans discovering the bands that I loved when I was young. After watching a Canadian girl react to Led Zeppelin, I was all set to call it a day but something persuaded me to look at what else she listened to. I scrolled past lots of K Pop boy bands but stopped dead when I saw a thumbnail of what looked like a girl in a maid costume playing a guitar. I watched the young lady from "Verdy Channel" react to Domination and almost had a heart attack. I was amazed, stunned, shocked and totally uplifted by Band Maid's wonderful music. Two years on nothing has changed. They astound me with everything that they do. But that's enough about me. Can I suggest that you don't just react to Dice / Hate? from Lollapalooza... do the entire performance. You will hear a lot of songs that you don't know and experience the most inspirational ending to a musical performance that you will ever hear. Just saying..... Keep up the good work "Princess".

For Band-Maid the studio version is really where a song begins, almost a template. If you watch a live from a few years later they've incorporated intros, added parts or little guitar licks. They change up tones on the instuments, Saiki sings it a little differently, they also intentionally incorporate sing along parts to a lot of their songs. A bunch have "whoa" and "yeah" parts. They said since they have a lot of international fans they wanted parts where everyone can sing with them. So live with Band-Maid live versions are kind of the complete vision of the song

Live or studio?. Well, first of all, they are excellent music writers, so any song you listen will be full of details and surprises. Then they are excellent musicians so their live performances are at the level of their writing (very selfdemanding!). But above all, they are an onstage animal, professional entertainers who make every time they go on stage a different experience. We fans are especially grateful for all of that. So... there is no chance to choose wrong!!

You mentioned how tightly together the bass and drums are. If you watch Misa's feet, she kicks her shoes off if possible before concerts, and told us the reason is to feel the drums more immediately to lock in her timing to Akane. I have read that most of them use a click track to assist with timing. EXCEPT MISA. Akane is her timer.

The playful way Kanami let a note slide semitone up to give an unexpected pause before Akane double bass leading to another Kanami genius before her going back to main riff, is so Band-Maid. The way Saiki let Miku's lyrics flow so well "playfully" is so Band-Maid, with prominent Bass and the way Saiki and Miku arrange vocal lines / trade offs - I mean, the whole TEAM is playing around each other and is so infectious. I feel your joy😂.

I found out about band maid about a year ago when I got out of high school and I fell in love with their music. I started exploring music outside of the bubble I was in as a girl in ny who didn’t have a developed music taste lmao. When I was tired of all the music I was used to my friends and family playing I started exploring music from all over the world, I’m talking from kpop to heavy metal and I found a lot of cool stuff and artists to be a fan of. To this day though band maid has still kept their number one spot in my heart when it comes to music, they just keep impressing me more and more it’s insane. When I first saw them I had no clue what I was in for I just remember thinking about how pretty Misa and Saiki were😭 then they started playing and it blew my mind. But yea all that’s just to say it’s cool to see other women reacting to them and I hope their fan base and demographic grows, esp here in the US so I can catch them live🤞

I have been lucky to have seeen them live 4 times when they came to America. They write great songs, and they are great musicians and wonderful people. They love each other and they love their fans. It's amazing how much they notice people when you are near to them. I've had some very cool interactions with Kanami, Miku, and Misa (Misa BTW is drop dead gorgeous in person.). She was already my favorite bassist. When I saw her in person and could see all the work she puts on the bass, it's amazing.

Welcome home Princess NittPicc! I'm looking forward to Sundays now thanks to you. I hope you are having a wonderful day! When Kanami wrote this one, she planned on it being an instrumental for giving Saiki a rest, but Saiki liked the song so much that she asked Miku to write lyrics for it. I don't know if you caught it, but there was a point towards the beginning after the lyrics started, when Miku went over to Akane, I think she was making faces at her to make her laugh. If you ever see the members of the band gather around Akane, they are probably making faces at her to make her laugh or make a mistake. Akane seems to love it, since she makes faces right back at them. Also, during this song, Akane made Saiki laugh just a little bit. You can see them playing with Akane during the live versions of "Domination" and "Freedom." I'm betting you are going to love the "Dice/Hate?" video even though the director wasn't great about switching the camera spots. On another note, our favorite Maids released a new live video yesterday for "Unleash." I loved the live video, but I think I still kind of prefer the original music video mainly because of all the Easter Eggs for their fans and that it had them as anime characters for parts of the video. Please take very good care of yourself and have a wonderful week.

Your reaction videos are always so much fun as well as informative, especially for us non-musical idiots, LOL! Here's something for you to watch for. In every live performance, the rest of the band likes to mess with Akane periodically during the show. They will go to her kit and make faces at her trying to make her laugh. Akane will often return the favor and make faces back at them. They all do it, even Saiki. Misa is generally stone cold on stage - she is the Barefoot Assassin after all - but she has a great sense of humor and loves making faces at Akane. If you pay close attention in this video, you can see some of that going on. Akane will hold one stick up and stick out her tongue. They do this every show! It's fun to watch for.

“Be more existent!” “There is a way out. It’s gonna be alright. Let go of your mind. SHEIKU BODI!” I was too slow to buy tickets to their 2018 visit to San Francisco. (I had never seen a Japanese band sell out a show in the Bay Area before, so I thought I had plenty of time.) You know I didn’t make that mistake twice. Now I’ve seen them in three cities across two states. Can’t wait to see which song you pick next. Maybe the live version of Manners and Black Hole, streamed during the pandemic?

I love Saiki’s vocals, but you are the first reactor to comment on Miku’s backup vocals on this track. Honestly, Miku is the most ADORABLE back up vocalist on the planet. When you get the chance, you should watch/listen to this concert from Shibuya from start to finish. I have been going to rock concerts and watching recorded rock concerts since the early 80s, and I can't remember a better full concert experience than this one, and their Studio Coast and Zepp Toyko from '17/'18 concerts are top notch as well.

I am a Japanese "Maidiac" since about 2017 and I still never get tired of Band-Maid. In fact, I like them more and more. I have listened to many different bands and music, both Japanese and foreign, regardless of genre , but I have never seen a band like this before. I think it's because they are all so hard working to grow day by day, and they all have different personalities, but they are all very wonderful human beings. I look forward to many more Band-Maid reaction videos in the future. Also, since you are a professional flutist, I would like to ask you, have you ever heard of the “Kyoto Tachibana High School Brass Band”, which has many fans all over the world because they play while dancing, despite being a club activity of Japanese high school students? They have already participated in the Rose Parade in California twice and are scheduled to participate again next year, and I believe they are the first school to participate three times. In 2018, there was a flutist who participated despite having one prosthetic leg. Search "Kyoto Tachibana Rose Parade" on KZread and you will find many videos. Please take a look!

But Band Maid was, as you said, it’s an entirely different experience! Omajinai Time; the chanting, the playfulness and legitimate affection between the Maids, and the sincerity of their interactions with the fans is something I had never experienced before. For your own sake, please check out the short video clip of the “Mini-Miku” that was captured during their last tour. Look at the Maids in the background. All that can’t be faked. These are genuinely good people. Go Band Maid! ❤

I really love the joy that these videos are giving you, because it’s the exact experience. I went through six months ago when I discovered BAND-MAID and really got it on. The live shows are amazing and well worth going to, I got to see them in Detroit last year, and it was the best concert experience I’ve ever had. I also really like talking about the musicality and the talent of band and you are correct. They are all fantastic players. And they also share their joy, playfulness, and skill with the band in every show. One thing I would note for you is on some of these live videos that they put out they usually have closed. Captioning turned on that they’ve done so that could help you with the lyrics as well.

I'm going to make another recommendation. On 1/9/23 Band-Maid did a concert at Tokyo Garden Theater to kick off their 10th anniversary tour and on 11/26/23 they did the final concert of this tour at Yokohama Arena. The TGT one has already been released on video and the Yokohama one is in pre-order and will be released on 3/27/24. I know as a reactor you don't want to see songs before you get a chance to react to them so you wouldn't want to watch the concerts themselves yet, however... Each of these releases has a special limited edition version which includes a documentary. The TGT one is of the US 2022 tour and Yokohama one is about the prep for the concert. The TGT one still has some copies available at the "Band-Maid Shop" but when they are gone they are gone except for eBay. They are two Blu-ray discs, concert plus doc. and a photo book I don't know your financial situation but if you could afford to get them I think you'd enjoy them and could then watch the concerts after you have seen enough of their YT content that it wouldn't spoil a reaction.

at 7:00 in this video Saiki went to Akane and tried making faces to mess her up. Akane made faces back. Akane won and you can barely detect Saiki laugh while singing. We understand when you need to go back. Every member puts their flair into what they do and you can hear a song multiple times and find something new each time. If the end sounds familiar go back to your first video. The end of Play is the beginning of Domination.

I know you have a lot of Band-Maid songs to go through, but don't neglect one that Miku sings lead on, "Sayonakodori". You could do a combo of the very different electric and acoustic versions. Another Miku song, "Rock In Me", gives you an idea of what Band-Maid would have become if Saiki was not added to the band. Just for fun (not for a reaction) watch an "Omajinai Time". A well known fan, Michelle, started as a fan, posted guitar covers of Band Maid songs, started going to concerts, became known to the band members because she happened to be called on by Saiki in an Q&A, and responded in Japanese. Not saying you need to learn Japanese, but how about a song cover? There is another youtuber, Alexej Bagrintsev, who has done a bunch of Band Maid songs on his cello!
