I'm glad to see at least some improvements from the dangerous grease pits a quarter of a century ago. It's a miracle that we didn't have a high death count on pinsetter mechs. Yet another job that is very underrated, underpaid and occasionally very dangerous. Let's hear it for all those mechs who never gets a thank you. Ever.

I've been a Brunswick Zone B mechanic for going on 16 yrs. About 3 yrs ago Amf bought out brunswicks remaining 89 centers. We now have to follow different guidelines and rules when we are working on them and even getting stops during leauges. We have A2 pinsetters which is the only pinsetter I've ever worked with. I will say the amf machines look like they have alot more room to work in the pit and to climb in from the back.

I have always been interested in how those machines worked!

you gotta really watch where you put your hands,arms,and legs back there..

Not nearly as dangerous as a Brunswick.

Just got hired as a bowling tech, I have no experience with it and haven't even seen what it looks like I'm the back prior to a couple days ago lol this videos helped me feel much more comfortable about it. If you read this do you have any advice?

My advice is to pay attention to what you are doing and what the machines are doing. Accidents can happen quick if you aren't paying attention. Don't worry about prior experience because most of it is learning as your going. Good luck with your new job. :)

I like the music, its interesting. I just started working as a mechanic at Royal Lanes Goose Creek SC and we have a battery operated oil lane machine. What you had in the video looks like a lot of work. anyways, cool, i caught on quick within a week.

+Arran Morgan Looks like 82/70's with the 90's conversion kit. My guess would be it helps with orientation. I've heard of people putting all kinds of things on the o pans. Never seen pins tho.

Facebook marketplace. I just bought 2 lanes out of Iowa just east of Des Moines. I pick them up on the 31st. Look up Mustang Lanes in Monroe Iowa. They might have a few left.

Pretty interesting. I guess they have to have a mechanic on duty at all times. Unless they just shut down the lanes that are problematic and have a mechanic come in at certain times. Maybe it depends on how busy the place is. Some of that equipment looks like it could hurt you pretty bad if you aren't paying attention. Stay safe.

If your former center is now owned by AMF you won't be allowed down back. A center I used to work at I wanted to visit my old head mechanic who taught me the Brunswick Pinsetter we had A-2 machines and I discovered since AMF bought out all the Brunswick bowling centers no one who isn't an employee is allowed down back and if they catch you with an unauthorized person down back you just became an ex employee. Their reason is insurance liability.

The tech guy said pins get stock on rail for no reason !! There is a reason buddy the clutch!

Do you suggest this as a career choice for aspiring youth?

+Matticus Barticus This is a great first job or a career. It teaches you hard work, quick problem solving, and it's a good workout running from one side of the house to the other.

82-70 with 90 conversion? I notice the O-Pan is still mounted to the distributor.

I saw both metal and plastic bins. These are definitely different back end motors than we use, rear control boxes are different, no MP Chassis, so that must have moved to the panel on the back

Also, you know you're having distributor problems when you stick pins on the rods on the o-pan... We've all had to come up with temporary solutions, but I saw that on several of them. Probably more of a K-pan problem. Though I saw where you said you don't work there anymore, I just noticed a lot. haha.

+Kathy Meza I started out bowling in a league, made friends with the employees and manager, and when I applied to work for them they asked if I would want to learn the back end.

The Owner of a Bowling alley I go to plans on buying me lunch and wants to talk to me about stuff... hopefully its about a job in the back. I grew up watching how Brunswick A 2 Machines work, so with some knowledge about them already hopefully I get a job where I usually bowl at. The ones you work at are the AMF 82-30 machines right.

Those are AMF 82-70's

5:17... wtf man. You hit the bin switch and set the table with only nine pins in it. If the tenth pin, (the nine pin) was in the bin, you wouldn't have had to hit the bin switch.

Probably so the pins dont fall off the distributor belt. I work on 82-70s at my bowling alley and if we have problems with pins falling off the distributor belt then we use tennis balls on the fingers and it solves that problem.

I'm new at this and I accidentally forgot to shut the machine down and the oil machine went underneath and got stuck I got the oil machine out from underneath the pin setter but now it won't turn on or do anything does anybody have any idea of why it's not working or what I can check to see why it's not working thank you.

Rich Dziuba in the UK we have all the same set up altho we have alot of caging in our way here for safety but to respot on a spare you literally stop the pit climb in the machine, put the pins in the places you need and then once the machine is on trigger the 9 pin so it thinks it has a full table and it drops down the pins you want and then you just turn the pit back on so that the shuttle has a full set in it again ready to go

Rich Dziuba just look up and 82-70 going through its first ball cycle. if you're talking about a repot done by hand after machine malfunction, you just do it with a pin hook and be sure the pinspotter is on second ball.

Rich Dziuba you drop the sweep in first ball, turn your table and sweep switches off, knock over the unwanted pins, turn your witches back on, the table will grab the standing pins, sweep clears dead wood and the machine automatically goes into second ball, wich will sweep the pins and set and full set after the second ball is delivered.

It doesn't look like anyone has cleaned a machine in that bowling alley for 40 years. No one has painted the floors, resprayed the machine frames, bought any new tools, entertained the idea of degreaser ... this is just unabated entropy. One day the roof will fall in and kill a bunch of them ... and no one will clear the bodies away either.
