A YOUNG WOMAN was born with a nevus birthmark covering more than 80 percent of her skin. Beatriz Pugliese, 25, from São Paulo, Brazil, underwent over 30 surgeries from the age of six months to reduce her birthmarks, as they are prone to cause skin cancer. Her condition, also known as a giant congenital melanocytic nevus, is so rare that it affects just one in 500,000 people. Despite experiencing some bullying at school, Beatriz didn’t let this get to her and says she’s always had a positive attitude as her family always encouraged her to not cover up any of her birthmarks but embrace them. The 25-year-old became a role model for others with similar skin conditions and attends a yearly meetup with other Brazilian people who have nevus birthmarks. Today, Beatriz works as a biologist and recently married her husband Fellipe who she met during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

I don’t think freckles&Lentigines that appear long after birth should be called ‘birth’ marks. Depigmentation is a common treatment for vitiligo.

Imagine knowing you are obviously and unmistakably unique. I know we all are, but this woman is remarkable. She’s used this as as carte blanche to be absolutely who she is. I love that she feels no pressure to fit in. That has to feel amazing.
I see nothing but beauty and great personality. Side note, some people cover more than 80% of their bodies with tattoos so a covered body is normal. Respect to you and your strong mum too. :)

Being someone who has had same skin condition as her I never felt confident on my own body,I never wore what I wanted to and always covered them thinking what do others think. This kind of mindset is useful when you're too poor for a surgery or when a condition meets the limits of science. For most it's best to find a highly skilled surgeon and change whatever hinders their happiness!

I have a big nevus birthmark as well, but on my back. It's several inches across, and does grow black hair. I have lots of moles all over the rest of my body, from birth as well. Some are very small, but most of them are as big as a pencil eraser or a bit larger. Other kids called me "Spot" when I was a kid. I do have them all checked every year for cancer, since I do live in a sunny location, and am outside for a lot of the summer. I've never been ashamed of the gift God gave me. I show them off all the time. I'm proud of them. Beatriz is gorgeous. (Jan Griffiths).

Yeah, the only problem was the unnecessary attempt to "fix" it with painful surgeries. She's was always beautiful as is!

We all know thats just consolation to sound good. The reality is that some skin shades are more attractive than others. Just like a Lambo or Ferrari will most likely remain more attractive than a Family Van.

She's beautiful, inside and out. I'm happy she's able to help others accept themselves for who they are. Every person who's been bullied needs to remember - it says more about the bully than it does you.
