    My first album was Freak-out when I was 12. I later became a rabid fan of XTC and covered a number of their songs in a band. I've learned more than I knew from your analysis of my heroes. No wonder Stefan Signer would send you an original conductor score from Frank Zappa. Thank-you Chanan.

    Really interesting. Thank you, Chanan. Some people stay under your radarfor a very long time and then you discover a whole world at once. Amazing. Switzerland has produced some very original artists: there's the quirky pop-art guys from Yello, the master painter H.R. Giger, the avant garde trash metal of Celtic Frost and now this guy. It does sound incredibly like FZ at times. Some people commented that they thought it's some kind of parody. Even if it is, it's somebody who really knows his Zappa and who is able to use it to his own advantage. Pretty impressive.

    The Prophet doesn’t count much in his Hometown: I have seen him only once in the 80ties in Effretikon, a small Town close to Zürich. Even among Swiss Zappa Fans he did not get much Recognizition. Gold Label was one of the least hip Label in Switzerland what did not help the sales Stefan Signer’s Records. I have to admit: I never bought one of his Records. The Concert I saw in Effretikon was fun and good as far as my Memory tells me.

    It's interesting if one person or band make music very similar to someone else they often get pinned as derivative. If you get a few more then it becomes a genre of its own and the perspective changes. This guy is incredibly talented and by referencing Zappa so effectively (as Zappa himself with so many other genres) it actually helps one to understand better the essence of some of Frank's music. Really fascinating just wish it was easier to get hold of his music!

    Thank you for this nice assessment. That's the crux of the matter, which explains a lot: if you have a few more, then it becomes a genre of its own and the perspective changes. That's what happened with Schönberg and 12-tone music, for example. The so-called "Viennese School" multiplied through many composers. But you can also learn the "Zappa school of composition". It is not impossible to get hold of my music, even if only the tip of the iceberg has been published. If you have special interests, perhaps I can help you?

    on one hand it's sad that his work will be forever seen in the shadow of Zappa but he chose not to embrace an individual voice. First rule of an artist: "NEVER wear your influences on your sleeve" too bad 'cause he has great talent.

    Fascinating stuff: You could almost call Steff The OTHER Frank Zappa. His music sounds as if, in a grand act of Conceptual Continuity, FZ's music had been cut apart into a million pieces way down at the granular phrase level, and then re-assembled, but re-assembled MUSICALLY - producing songs and compositions that sound recognizably Zappa, yet are completely unfamiliar. Perhaps like the work of the FZ one or two timelines over.

  • @infrasteff7124

    @infrasteff7124

    That is a very precise analysis and sounds good to me. Zappa's music is a system that can be clearly defined. There is also the Stravinsky system and then the 12-tone music system introduced to the world by Arnold Schönberg, which not only Schönberg but dozens of other composers besides Anton Webern or Alban Berg used or use and create something new and unique from it. And in a completely different place, not represented in this video, there is even the Stefan Signer system, which is different again.
