Funny reading the comments. I'm 34 years old and have zero rememberable of any of these old country songs but I will tell you what, this IS and FOREVER will be the best and most soulfull music ever and the pedal steel is the most emotionally expressive instrument alive and it should be cherished. That's coming from someone who merely knows his ears don't lie. And that's why now I'm learning pedal steel.

Ya notice that neither David or John dressed up to look like tough and rough cow punchers in shabby hand-me-down clothes, bandannas and tent size hats over dark rim glasses to get noticed, instead their musical instruments stood out above any and all types of clothing attire. I once had a manager who'd always tell me, "man you really play that outlaw vibe well!". I never said much in response to that. However one day he came to my camper trailer to take me to a gig and found me facedown on the floor in cut off jorts and boots with Blaze Foley playing out my computer. He got me cleaned up and on the way he said "Jesus Christ I really thought it was a stage act!". Needless to say I never made it big lol

Todays stuff ISN'T music. There's no rhyme nor rhythm no tune, either, just BUMP BUMP DE BUMP DA BUMP BUMP RISY RISHIE BUMP with a lot of cussing thrown in. I imagine it makes the devil happy. And ya CAN'T help but notice, it has to be deep bass and loud enough it shakes your dishes in the cabinets when they drive by! Leon Payne wrote this beauty, many have recorded it as well as several others he penned over his life. Leon was a blind singer, song writer, when I played with him in San Antonio Texas in 1960, his clothes had patches but he seemed to be at peace with the world. He was a soft spoken man, unlike some guys I worked for in the following years. I believe he would be happy to have heard David & John do such a beautiful rendition of his song.

In my mind the pedal steel guitar is the most beautiful instrument in the world. I always wished I could play one or atleast a steel slider because my dream was to become a country music singer since I was a child but my dreams got robbed

I was 78 Sunday 12th and this music is great
The blind singer and songwriter Leon Payne wrote this fantastic Song in 1949, according to me, one of the finest songs ever written.
I can see the mutual respect each one had for each other by yhe way they watch each other. They were both masters and they knew it. Beautiful music!
12 years later and over 4 million views. Miss your music, Dave. John Stannard was a wonderful guitarist. He is missed.
For those who love this music - we do not care whether you like it or not - your insignificant - we still love this music & appreciate Dave & John sharing it with us.

Sooooo true. Well said. This song, in particular, blesses my heart and soul. I absolutely HAVE TO HEAR IT every 2 or 3 days. The melody is played so perfectly in tune. It would be impossible to improve on how great they are at playing it! Total PERFECTION!!!!!!
This is TRUE classic country music sounds. Ya notice that neither David or John dressed up to look like tough and rough cow punchers in shabby hand-me-down clothes, bandannas and tent size hats over dark rim glasses to get noticed, instead their musical instruments stood out above any and all types of clothing attire. Thanks guys for such REAL country music from 1949.

I still miss John. RIP, Buddy.

One of the greatest joys from David's videos (on his later recordings) is the incredible clear hi fidelity sound and video. Poor video and/or audio; destroys most of what these experts can do. And that is sad indeed. Thank you kind Sir David.
A truly great singer and so very , very popular in both USA and the UK. . Her funeral in England was famously huge and shut down the country, there, I believe .

Beautiful with thank you, Brothers.
