Mario Duplantier is widely considered the best or at least top3 metal drummers in the world right now (usually alongside Danny Carey from Tool and Tomas Haake from Meshuggah). He was in jazz drum school for 7 years, then, since he started Gojira with his brother Joe (lead singer and guitarist) in late 90's, he practices alone for 3-4 hours every single day, with 1 hour of consantly playing double bass at 180-210bpm. And he never skips this routine. Not only talented, but insane hard worker, no wonder he is such a technical beast. His drum solos on his channel are absolutely mental. And what I especially love about Mario is that his drumming is not only insanely technical, but groovy af at the same time. All of his patterns and fills are complicated but tasty. Oh and fun fact, as Joe once said in the interview, most of Gojira songs are born from Mario's drum patterns or his practice exercises. They jam together and Joe comes up with riffs that fit Mario's ideas and later he writes lyrics and they think of the song's structure. Quite an unusual creative process, but maybe thats what makes Gojira so distinctive and original. If you want to check out more of their stuff Id recommend L'Enfant Sauvage (studio or Red Rocks live, theres a full show in great quality with timestamps), Born in Winter, Pray (also live at Red Rocks) or Amazonia. Flying Whales is quite heavy, but an extremely catchy banger too. If you wanna try THE heavy side of Gojira, then The Art of dying, The heaviest matter of the universe, Backbone or Remembrance (recommend live version). But to be honest, you cant really miss with Gojira, when it comes to metal I think only Death sustained more consistent great level of their music, whole Gojira's discography is amazing and full of gems. And also, if you wanna actually watch the drum cam that is not just a drum solo, there's a Toxic garbage island, live performance, filmed fully behind Mario's back Great reaction and Im glad you enjoyed it, love to see how Gojira have their own way in showing that heavy music and growls can be enjoyable when done correctly with taste and great musicianship, even to people who are not exactly into this kind of heavier and brutal music :)

I’m pretty sure I’m doing Sauvage next, and then after that I’m not sure but I’ll probably use this comment as a guide tbh! I’m glad you enjoyed the reaction, I had fun making it haha, it’s been added to my Spotify playlist (I have a playlist of the songs from this channel that I genuinely enjoy 😂)

Gojira is the band that sent me back to metal! To this day the version of their song Pray, recorded at Red Rocks is one of the most powerful live recordings I've ever seen. Just discovered your channel and with a Periphery and Gojira, and Olivia Rodrigo reaction you now have a new subscriber!! Cheers🤘🤘 PS.... Definitely recommend to check out TesseracT.... The tracks like Stranded, The gift of guilt, Silvera, those are all the perfect ones to get into them. All of those are more ‘recent’ Goj́ira. Old school Gojira is as death metal as you can get. So much more to recommend. Another logic recommendation would be Flying Whales, probably their most ‘popular’ one. If you do this one, definitely the one at Brixton Academy, the same show as this one. If you want more heavy, raw Gojira, i’d recommend Clone live at Garorock or Remembrance live at The link Alive. Up to you! Keep m comin!

GREAT recommendations. I was thinking Flying Whales at Brixton along with Toxic Garbage Island. Where Dragons Dwell at Hellfest 2013 is a later listen, but it's a journey. @@markabusireactions The drawing is kind of crude, it has no color, and I'm not super familiar with Antman, so it wasn't immediately recognizable. I'm also usually watching on my phone in low res. I thought it might have been some sort of robot, like a Transformer or something. It didn't hit me until I saw the little atom symbol in this video. You're right about the tapping, Mark. It was a feat of Philip Glass-meets-metal minimalist endurance. And the drummer is legitimately a beast, or wired to the mains. (I have to say though that a singer actually producing recognisable notes is a bit of a low bar, but I can see how you would have been forced into that position.) All told, I quite enjoyed that too, so cheers!
