That's untrue however. That becomes true with every huge community, which necessarily had to get all that fame in many years, and therefore there will be the old nostalgia products to praise. (It's not a fandom anyway, since it's praising the old and hating full heartedly any single new thing that came later)

My biggest issue is how abusive the fandom is toward the cast, crew, and everyone involved. The same people who shit-talked George Lucas for years and made him wash his hands of it are now saying that they want to see his vision for the new trilogy. Also, when you factor in the amount of hate geared towards the cast of these movies even before the Internet became as huge as it is now, yeah, I don’t like associating with the fandom; the reputation it has I feel is very valid.

I feel really bad for Kelly Marie Tran seeing as the bullying got so bad that she deleted her social media accounts. And then with the death threats that Rian Johnson got? The toxic fans are always looking for someone to blame for the divided community when most of it is their own fault.

I understand behaving badly is reprehensible, however if you're simply using the typed word, you shouldn't prescribe opinion and forums your own brand of medicine when dealing with such people. If someone is calling for an actor to kill themselves, said actor should be able to ridicule the bully for such displays of attitude, and then go about the day. I've been attacked online numerous times. I try to take it to heart as little as possible. I must not be privy to this bullying to actually take it into consideration past the written word. Because it's easy to shake your head and advise the cruelty without allowing it to lose control. Now with class mates of Jake Lloyd, there's clear indication the problem lies within the school system. It lacks discipline. But anyone who has gone through the American system knows. Possibly take a moment to detain the children who inflict said pain, and stop allowing negativity. Upon a person screaming derogatorily at another peer, this should be counseled. School normally doesn't plan for this. And if they do, it's lack of follow through is critical to curb. Usually, people aren't successful enough with moral aptitude to perform punishments. Instances of questioning one's own moral code can be misconstrued into bullying, though. I've been through this as well. Questioning authority comes with consequences, and is often placed into the same category as bullying. The moral fiber of America, and of other countries, isn't often very thoroughly protected. One person might be deemed morally reprehensible by the majority but is actually simply making statements allowed by the rights of a country...

Whenever someone says the fandom is awful, people always pipe up and say "not ALL the fans are awful!" Of course that's true, but it doesn't really matter. There is not a single Star Wars related thread or comment section on the internet that doesn't quickly devolve into sh*t slinging, ignorance and frustration. It's just inevitable. So while there are some respectful fans, the entity that is the Fandom itself is awful and toxic. Which is really sad.

Star Wars fans have affected many people negatively. From the toxic spewing “Fandom Menace” to people who attack other fans for liking or disliking a movie on social media. The actor of Anakin in episode 1 has ended up in an asylum, the actor of Jar Jar nearly killed himself, racist slurs and other names have driven actors off social media. And when this new trilogy comes out, the minority who has the loudest voice in the Star Wars fandom restart the hate cycle. “We want George Lucas back!” Okay, so the man you hated and claimed “ruined” your childhood is now a saint and should make the new movies? He sold Star Wars because he knew the cycle that the fandom had gone through with the prequels would repeat, and I don’t blame him for selling the license. Toxic Star Wars fans sadly have the biggest and loudest voice on the internet, and with a fandom this large, it’s sad to see that.

In my opinion, the worst fans are the ones who say "Disney ruined Star Wars" or "Disney can't make good Star Wars movies". The reality is that Disney barely had anything to do with making them apart from distribution right and copyright protection. It's all Lucasfilm's doing. Same goes for all the exact same complaints I see on every single Star Wars video I've seen. "Boohoo, this one single minute is better than all of the sequel trilogy." "Boohoo, Vader died for nothing." "Boohoo, Ma-Rey Sue." "Boohoo, Rey stole the Skywalker name." "Boohoo, watching a dog poop is more entertaining than the sequel trilogy." Lather, rinse and repeat ad nauseam. The ridiculous amount of salt and deliberate hyperbole gets old fast. And it gets depressing just as fast.

Lucas made bad prequel films but there was an overarching interesting story and you got something out of it that I don't think TLJ provided at all. TROS has tried to clean up after TLJ and I enjoyed it, but it's made the whole trilogy a complete mess without a real thread to follow. I'm not worried if we don't have Lucas anymore, but what I would absolutely love is if George was convinced to help write a Legends book trilogy in a few years for his ideas for the sequel trilogy where he has full creative control

If Lucas actually did come back and make something, people would still hate it because a lot of Star Wars "fans" (more like haters at this point) will always find something to complain about. People forget that the overwhelming majority of people thought the prequels were not "quality movies" - bringing back Lucas wouldn't change anything. The Star Wars fandom is toxic.

i dont wanna be rude but the last jedi does suck, but that doesnt mean there wasnt gud scenes in it, i was really into that scene where Rey went in that dark side hole thing, demn(reminded me of kotor 2 korriban cave), theres other gud scenes but i forgot, my biggest problem with it is it feels like 2 complete movies, idunno how to explain it, it doesnt continue its story properly? i guess its more accurate to say its a bad continuation. i really loved the force awakens, even tho it had its slight problems, felt like it was writing itself in a corner but oh well, i loved the beginning of it where Rey was in that ship looking for salvage. Oh i re-watched the force awakens a week ago and maybe i have some huge PTSD problems, but when Rey and gang were going to that place where the criminals were, i panicked when i saw that droid walking by, but they didnt react at all, so i felt stupid lol, cos that same droid looked the same from that game jedi fallen order, that droid bounty hunter lmao (i kept getting killed by that droid bounty hunter on grandmaster difficulty everytime i came across them, or killed the main bounty hunter, but its sidekick wud disappear for no reason, so i'd feel inadequate even if i managed to kill the droid :( i cant parry on grandmaster so i have to win in a different way conclusion, they made a mess of this trilogy, especially linear-wise, but i enjoyed both movies, and i cant wait to download the rise of skywalker, i agree our star wars fandm is 70% ignorant toxic ppl, and im gonna quote Carth Onasi "i guess stupidity & ignorance never gets out of style" and its 100% true, but even tho i enjoyed this sequel trilogy, i believe the disney people were testing the waters and seeing how much they can get away with, agenda & political-identity-wise in the place of gud story-telling, so they are trying to sacrifice the best story telling they can give for their own agenda, thats why disney was trying to sabotage Rian Johnson's movie, so "the rise of skywalker" wouldn't prove that 'the last jedi' really is crap, they didnt want to be proven wrong about the last jedi. sry i made this too long

I consider myself a Star Wars fan, I love all of the movies, originals, prequels, sequels, Star Wars stories, etc. they mean so much to me, they’ve brought me so much joy. But, yeah, the other fans absolutely take all the fun out of Star Wars. You have to like the specific things they enjoy and nothing more. Have the same objective opinion. If you don’t agree with them, they’ll pile on you and we get that whole ‘you’re not a real fan’. They take it all too seriously, they’ve spent too much of their lives absorbing as much content as they can, and have become inflexible to options other than their own head canon or personal need for nostalgic vindication. And it’s so toxic. Looking at the effects, Ahmed Best almost killing himself because of fans, Jake Lloyd retiring from acting because of fans, Daisy Ridley and Kelly Marie Tran leaving social media because of fans, George Lucas himself walking away from the franchise because of fans. That’s not to mention the countless normal people at home who’re harassed and bullied online. It’s so toxic. But you point these things out, and they never take the responsibility, it’s the actor’s/George Lucas/Disney/Rian Johnson/JJ/Kathleen Kennedy/etc fault...no it isn’t. They just made something, the fans decide with their own personal voice to be dicks about it. I’m so often ashamed of the fans. But, I’ve made so many friends through the Disney era of this fandom, we have a large group that meet up for every big Star Wars release. We also have charity events that the 501st raise money for, book drives, etc. so I guess there is a small silver lining. But, the old adage still stands ‘no one hates Star Wars like a Star Wars fan’.

Plus that in the sequel trilogy they constantly say things like it’s the actors and Disney’s fault. The actors did not read the film they just starred in it. As a life long Star Wars nut, I feel this so strongly. Like I loved The Last Jedi and I mean loved and people who don't agree that's perfect fine, but like I get told you aren't a real Star Wars fan if I even like it and then when I say I've been a Star Wars fan all my life to the point I don't even remember the first time I watched it because that's how young I was and I read the books and watch the shows and The Last Jedi is no joke my actual favourite Star Wars movie, the only response I get is "are you stupid?" Like I don't take any of those comments seriously, but like it's just so offpointing to be a part of the Star Wars fandom especially when it's about a movie that means a lot to me on a personal level. If you wanna hear why it means so much to me (beyond all the many different things I love in film from the Akira Kurosawa inspirations to the overall themes) then I'll just talk about it here if you're interested: What they did with Luke in TLJ is far more inspirational to me than any perfect legend could have been. I have me own personal struggles that I won't go into detail on, but often it feels like I'm hopeless, life is hopeless, I'm a mess and there's nothing I can do about it. Luke is favourite Star Wars character and to see him fall into a similar state as me helps me because it says, hey you aren't that pathetic for being and feeling this way, even heroes as great as Luke Skywalker can fall this low. What's even more inspirational is that at the end he finds new hope in himself and the galaxy at large and sacrifices himself in order to preserve hope for the future and inspire the galaxy. This says that no matter how low you feel, how far you have fallen, there's hope for you yet. On top of that the portrayal of self loathing in that movie is so incredibly accurate to my experience, I don't even know where I'd start, but it's just so real and human and as a massive Luke fan he was always the real down to earth everyday human farmboy and we still got to see him be the ultimate hero at the end in a way that is truly more Luke and lightside in his higher power of self control rather than dominance. And like I said the fact that he found that through all the pain and guilt of self loathing that I myself have experienced is just so ridiculously inspirational to me. Luke Skywalker has never been more heroic to me than he was in The Last Jedi and I stand by that. Again I totally agree, the fanbase can just be so cruel to each other and like I don't think anyone is an idiot for not liking The Last Jedi, like that's their opinion and there's nothing wrong with that just as my personal love for it is mine, so I just don't understand how people can go around attacking people for liking something that personally means something to them. Like clearly those people have a personal attachment to some piece of Star Wars so why would you attack someone else's as if they don't feel as passionately about it as you do.

Fine, you like the choice done with Luke's character. I disagree and think it is antithetical to everything Luke was setup to be in the OT (Mark Hamill thinks so too), but whatever, let's brush over that as a difference of opinion. What about the rest of the movie? If you are as big a fan of SW as you say you are, does RJ breaking the universe not bother you? The introduction of flying ships into objects at light speed to destroy them literally broke the entire universe, and made the entire series incoherent when every single ship, no matter how small, now has the power of the Death Star. Which, hilariously, was actually made even more true in TRoS when JJ literally did that. Rey is still ultra powerful for no reason (don't give me the lineage stuff, because Anakin still needed years of training even as the greatest force user of all time). Leia magicked herself back onto the ship. Rose saved Finn for some nonsensical reason and somehow escapes death. I understand liking parts of TLJ. It wasn't all bad. I don't see how anyone could like the complete product, though. I would like someone to explain to me what about this movie makes it the best SW movie.

@@danielmcneese3908 I was just not going to respond to this because I don't have the time or energy, but it'll bug me if I don't. The Holdo Manuver does not break the Star Wars universe and does not have the power of the Death Star, but this video will explain it far better than I could in a rushed comment: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aaSAxsyfYrG5mbg.html On the Rey stuff first of all I wouldn't give you any lineage nonsense because Rey being nobody is one of the many things I love about TLJ. Honestly my main feelings is I don't give a crap about how powerful characters are. Like it's the least interesting element of Star Wars, I care far more a about a character's journey such as Rey's journey to find her place and wanting someone else to define her place for her but learning that nobody is going to provide that and will have to forge one on her own. Now if you really want explanations for Rey's abilities then from my perspective is that A.in regards to her fighting ability, she has literally been fighting for her life every day since she was 6, that's literally her backstory B. In terms of force abilities she actually showed no consistent skill in any area, whilst yes she probably also grew up consistently using it without realising you'd be right in thinking she shouldn't really be showing any real control over it, but she doesn't. Rey uses a mind trick once in sheer belief and desperation and doesn't do it again in either TFA or TLJ, she pulls the lightsaber to her in similar desperation and uses dark side rage to defeat a severely wounded Kylo. In TLJ for most of the movie doesn't deliberately use the force at all, until near the end. I would go on with comments about size matters not and force philosophies, but honest all this is just semantics. The force is mystical and works in mysterious ways and I really don't care how powerful a character is as long as they have a story I find compelling. Leia just magics herself back to the ship... yeah... using the force, Star Wars is a fantasy with it's own version of magic that is most interesting when it's mystical, we've seem people use it to survive in space before, we've seem it used, to pull, push, lift ect objects, people and one's self. Space has no counter force or Gravity so it'd arguably be easier. Honestly I loved seeing Leia use the force like that. The force is magic. It's a mystical energy feild. It's way more interesting when it's mystical in my opinion "That's the difference between the Rebels and the Empire, it's possible to fight because you love not just because you hate" - Irvin Kershner (Once Upon a Galaxy: A Journal of the Making of The Empire Strikes Back) Look we could argue this stuff black and blue for months. But I'll get to the root of what I actually personally loved about it in my second reply.

@@danielmcneese3908 Now best Star Wars movie is a nonsense statement because everyone has different parameters for what that means to them and either way there are serval Star Wars movies I think are amazing and I don't really have much interest in saying which is better. But yes The Last Jedi is my personal favourite. Why? Where do I start? How about Luke getting not only another character arch, like I loved him for in first place, but one that was personally very real and impactful to me and depicted my experience with self loathing to shocking accuracy. It forgoes the trappings and iconography of Star Wars and pushes it into new original territory whilst actually upholding the themes and values the Saga has always preached because what made Star Wars great back in 1977 was that it was new and inventive. George wasn't trying to please anyone but himself and pushed the inventiveness of cinema. Whilst pushing into new ideas it's looks to inspiration from the sources of inspiration taking the Luke/Rey/Kylo side from Akira Kurosawa films just as George did this time taking mixed inspiration from Ikiru and Ran with sprinklings of Rashomon. Whilst the Poe/Finn/Rose side took from George's other source of inspiration sci fi adventure serials like Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon. Everyone gets character archs!!! Rey, Ben, Luke, Finn & Poe all have character archs that I would consider well developed and interesting. Rey's denial and struggle of finding how she fits into the ongoing events ultimately hearing the hardest answer of no one will give it to you, you have to forge it for yourself. Assessing that to Finn's own admittence he did not go to Starkiller for the cause, but rather just for Rey, Finn now gets a journey to understand the value of fighter for a greater cause than just yourself and things that immediately effect you. (That's what the Fauthier stuff is about by the way, it's not a sudden animal rights thing, it's Finn learning the value of saving something that doesn't have an impact on his personal life) fighting for a cause is one thing, fighting for a cause is another. Luke I've talked about in great deal already. Poe learns to be less wreckless and how to be a better leader. Which is one of the most interesting archs because it teaches Poe all Star Wars/Jedi preached principles in patients, thoughtfulness and non violence where possible, but confronts with the other Star Wars archetype of the flyboy underdog who just runs ins and gets things done despite the risk and lack of plan (See The Last Jedi isn't trying to take down the values or things we love about it, but rather refine it. Like it questions the Jedi legends, but ultimately says through all the mistakes and failings they were preaching the right thing and we should believe them and Luke embraces the legend and says "I will not be The Last Jedi"). Kylo's arch is mostly a decent, whilst like everyone else he moments of push and pull from both sides at every turn he pushes forward on his path to darkness and is left hollow and screaming at the end of TLJ (I also love that we got to see a darkside apprentice betray his master and become the supreme dark lord, it's something we've heard about, but never seen and I really wanted to see it with Kylo) OK I could go on and talk about favourite scenes and moments, how different plotlines parallel and clarify each other and so on, but I've already been responding to you for an hour so I think that'll do. Look I don't mind you disliking or liking whatever, but to me as a Star Wars fan it gave me everything I wanted and honestly I'm already thinking about tones of other stuff I haven't even brought up yet, but yeah I'll leave it here

@@ClintBandito Just because a guy made a KZread video out if it doesn't make what he says true. People show obvious flaws in his logic in the comments. It breaks the universe, there is no other way around that. As for Rey, she doesn't have an arc, that's the problem. Her "finding herself" is nothing more than a thin veil over a character who never lost, never tried at anything, never faced adversity. I don't care if she was a fighter her whole life (which isn't part of her backstory, btw, she was a scavenger), she competed with a ridiculously powerful force user who has been trained his entire life by two different masters, and she won. That's not character development. You can't have character development without struggle and hardship. Mirror her story and growth with Luke in the OT, they don't even compare. I wasn't going to go into the Luke stuff but you brought it up again, so OK, here we go. Luke had flaws in the OT. He was arrogant, he had anger, but one thing he did not have was a loss of hope about the redeemability of people. He demonstrated loyality to his family and those he loved, to a fault. He literally challenged the emperor because he had faith in his father, arguably the most evil being in the universe, save the emperor himself. A person who murdered countless millions, he had faith in. You are telling me THAT character raised his lightsaber against his nephew while he was sleeping because he had some bad dreams about him? That's not a second character arc, that's a completely different character. If RJ wanted to make a consistent character with a similar storyline, it isn't even difficult. All he would have to do is give Luke some hubris at Kylo challenging him in his training methods, and Luke throwing Kylo out of his school, which pushed him into the arms of Snoke. Consistent character, same result. Failure does make for a good character arc, which is why the OT, and Luke, were so beloved, and why changing who his character is at the core was devastating to so many people (again, including Mark Hamill).

Number 1 is the Internet. People will type things on here that they would never say in real life to someone's face. Number 2 is hatred. A lot of KZread channels will complain about Lucasfilm, but the reality is that 'fans' have hated on Star Wars and Lucasfilm for years, there's so much immaturity. Number 3 is being narrow-minded. This idea that Star Wars should only be this one way only, there's no acceptance for new characters or ideas. If you dislike one of the new films, why hate on it and ruin the experience for everyone else? I'm done with Star Wars on KZread. This video highlights the problem really well.

I've been called not a real Star Wars fan for liking the prequels and The Last Jedi, for liking all the Star Wars movies to varying degrees since they are "so different from eachother" as if something must be wrong with my taste for liking a wide range. Cinema isn't supposed to be the same movie over and over again, I like progression and different styles. That's why Star Wars and Harry Potter are my favorite large franchises by far, the entries didn't just repeat tone from the same original two or three movies over and over again. There's a saying "nobody hates Star Wars movies as much as Star Wars fans", this is why Lucas ultimately sold the franchise and stopped directing films himself. Think about this, George Lucas was so despondent over Star Wars fans trashing his Star Wars movies that he stopped making films.

It's because all of the people who grew up with the prequels, like me (I've liked Star Wars since I was like 7 and now I'm 16) are old enough to actually give an intellectual opinion on the prequels. There's a really good video on how the prequels are actually really good, and why people initially hated them. To sum it up though, the prequels aren't perfect, but they follow the Star Wars film style and tell a good story, but people at the time had such high expectations that they automatically hated the movie just because it wasn't what they theorized when the OT came out. Basically the zoomers are finally outnumbering the boomers in this fanbase.

Toxic fan: All I’m trying to do is to save the Star Wars franchise, and you still don’t like me. How can you not like me? Me: Okay, I’ll tell you. You’re one of the worst people I know. You constantly bashed George Lucas when the prequels came out. The guy created Star Wars, thus creating your childhood and that’s how you repaid him? And to add insult to injury, you sang about how he supposedly “raped your childhood”. And you’re such a sponge. You expected Disney and Lucasfilm to make something completely new and original after The Force Awakens, but after The Last Jedi came out, you said it wasn’t what you expected it to be. And what really bothers me, is that you worship the originals like they’re the second coming of Jesus Christ, while complain about the other trilogies “ruining your childhood”. Yes, it’s okay to dislike certain movies, but at least be mature about it. Don’t go on social media and harass Rian Johnson about how he “ruined” the character of Luke Skywalker. He didn’t! He understood how Luke and his views could change over the years! But that’s why you hate him so much. He didn’t turn Luke into the version from Legends. God, you’re pretentious! And you delude yourself by thinking you’re saving Star Wars, even though you’re not saving squat. You know Kathleen Kennedy is not going to get fired just because you disliked a few movies. You should’ve known that she’s been a competent filmmaker collaborating with Spielberg in the past. And I think what else annoys me, is your raving paranoia about “SJW propaganda”, and you complaining about your fan theories not coming true, and you treating your opinions like objective facts. Well, what have you done to help?! Harassment and bullying will only make things worse. They’re certainly not getting better! You wanna help?! Grow the hell up! And by the way, just because you had a fan theory about a character’s lineage, that doesn’t mean it’s going to be in the actual movies. One more thing! You call people “shills” or “fake fans” for liking the movies you hate, “Because people who like the movies I don’t like are idiots”! Well, who the hell are you to talk down to anyone?! You bullied and harassed actors and actresses for playing characters they didn’t even write! Not to mention your pathetic attempts to “fix” the movies you hate. How’s that last Jedi remake nobody will ever see? But, you know what? I can forgive all of that, ALL OF IT, if you weren’t such a hypocrite. That’s the worst of it. You’re just a big, sad, pathetic, immature, hypocrite. (Exhale) Well, I’ll see you never. Thanks for (bleeping) nothing.

The issue with Star Wars, and more importantly, the fans is that many view it as something "sacred" from their childhood (or adulthood if you were old enough to see it the first time round). This rose tinted view is held incredibly closely to some people and if someone criticises the films, it seems like an affront to their childhood and entire being. That said, I was disappointed that Disney bought LucasFilm and knew (off the success of this whole MCU thing) that they'd try flooding the market with new films and spin offs. I watched The Force Awakens with some anticipation & excitement, but felt quite flat when the film finished. And with that, I decided not to view the other films. I loved eps 4/5/6 as a kid but for me, not going to be something I'll watch again. Maybe some of the "toxic fandom" should also realise it makes them look ridiculous from the outside observer.
