I Love & Hate Assassin's Creed Odyssey
Ойындар
I have a weird love hate relationship with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. On one hand, there’s a lot to love, like a stunning world, freedom to play how you want, ancient greece, and just a fun experience. However, there are also plenty of downsides, enough to count on both hands! Now let me get this out the way, this video is not me saying this game sucks. I’m just pointing out the negatives, because believe it or not, every game has its positives and negatives.

Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin-Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

My pros and cons with Odyssey: +Lots of places to explore and sites to find in Greece +Probably has the best customization between this game, Origins, and Valhalla +Gear features and engravings +Lots of variety of enemies to fight +Modern day has more of a focus and isn't nonplayable nor in first person +The Cultist system is a fun way to hunt down targets +Free-roaming naval combat returns +Fun boss fights +Great music such as Legend of the Eagle Bearer and the Modern Version +Barnabas is a great quartermaster +Fate of Atlantis DLC offers three new worlds to explore with new enemies that pose a new challenge +Kassandra's voice acting and character model (played as her) +Lots of tragedy displayed in the game that makes you feel emotional +Fun abilities such as the Spartan Kick and being able to self-heal -Tone can be too goofy at times -Choices are mostly pointless especially with romances and make the protagonist not feel like a character -After a while the character leveling system and the ship upgrade system requires too much XP and resources -Enemies are damage sponges -Too much gear with lots of switching out and having to get rid of some of it -The camps and tombs are pretty much the same -Mission structure for both main missions and side quests is repetitive with having to do or find 3 of something a lot -Too hard to see at nighttime or in dark places such as underwater sections in tombs and caves -Too easy to attract bounty hunters who can always find you and even engage you while you are playing a mission -No guaranteed stealth instant kills even with enemies who are the same level as you -Layla isn't an interesting modern day protagonist -Barely connects with the Assassins Creed series outside of the modern day, Pieces of Eden, and performing assassin moves such as the leap of faith -A forced romance which goes completely against player choice -Too long of a list of missions to scroll through on the map screen

I have played Odyssey on platinum 2 times and i loved every second of it
I love Odyssey, Kassandra is the first character that decides to hunt down the Cult by herself, she isn't in the Assassins order, but she is an Assassin, i love how you can investigate targets and use logic to find them, or sometimes just stumble upon them
Odyssey is great game and really good AC Game. I never understood why are people saying it’s not AC game. You have Isu lore, you have early version of Templars. Assassin brotherhood is not there, but Kassandra shares Assassin ideology. It just seems to me people want to shit on this game and are using Odyssey as black sheep in franchise.
Odyssey is my favorite AC game. I even bought the art book for it because it was so beautiful and entertaining! Regarding the mercenary system, one of the military leaders in the region is the one who “hires” the mercenary. There’s evidence of hired mercenaries from the 6th century BCE. I don’t think it’s immersion breaking to have mercenaries hunting you - it’s quite accurate of the time. Also it’s more fun to have another challenge to work around. I personally enjoy figuring out the locations where they can’t follow you, like the tombs or mountaintops. Also the epilogue is the Korfu Island quest line.
Odyssey is a great game
How I would have done is this. Alexios should have been the main character since Misthios is singular male. Misthia is singular female. The novel stated Deimos (Alexios) dies. The Twist ending I came up with would have been Alexios as Misthios and Kassandra as Deimos fighting. The Spear glowed and both of them saw each others’ memories. When the light faded, Alexios took a fatal stab with the spear. Alexios as a big brother was willing to die to keep his promise to his mother. Kassandra now knowing the truth broke down in grief. This would have been a good Greek Tragedy where the person you play as died at the finale and you ended up playing the character you did not chose afterwards. Kassandra would take Alexios place and spend 2400 years to atone for her sins.

Really one of the best AC games and there are quite a few things about it that I prefer over games like Witcher III or even the older AC games. It's an amazing game and a great AC game. It explores different things and I like that. My only two complaints are that Alexios feels like he should have been the protagonist and if the game didn't have dialogue options, Alexios or Kassandra would have been much better to some. Even with those options, I still find Alexios a more interesting character than Connor or Altair. Ubisoft should also be ashamed for not having a cinematic for this game.

Odyssey is genuinely one of my favourite games in the series… not my favourite by any means but it’s definitely up there
I remember the trailer of Odyssey, what a beautiful piece of cinematic❤
Take out the leveling system, damage sponge, and arcade type combat and it would be amazing
One thing about the HIdden Blade and the fact that, yes, it did exist while Alexios/Kassandra were growing up, but there was only that one. Darius created it, and was noted (even in AC 2) as having been the inventor of the Hidden Blade, so it does actually make sense that only Darius has one...he made it himself.
There was a scene in the 3rd part of the Atlantis dlc that will forever keep Odyssey as one of my favorite games. It was one of the only scenes throughout the entirety of odyssey where kassandra was alone and talking to her eagle about how crazy her life has been. It was interrupted by enemies by the end (I think) but it did so much to endear me to her and the game as a whole. To my knowledge, no other AC game had a moment of the character just existing for a moment and going "man, I've seen some crazy shit lately."
I like this game. I'm playing it for a third time. I would have had played it more by now, but there's so much grinding and it's so long even if you skip the side quest. I also think Ubisoft should have just let Kassandra be the many player and the first ever female assassin character we control. Those are my pet-peeve about the game. Other than that, I don't care about the hidden blade missing from the game, it never came to my mind, and it makes Odyssey stands out from the others. I'm not going to tear in about the lack of mo-cap, there's a lot of dialogue to perform since you have to redo the scenes for Kassandra and Alexios doing the hero and villain lines. The leveling and gear thing can be a pain, but what I do level up gears that I really like and only level hunter bows, weapons I use in battles, and warrior armor. I don't level hunter or assassin gear until its percentage raises. And to get my resources, I usually will walk around Athen's wall killing guards and taking resources from them and the racks, and then I sell the weapons. Or some I destroy to get resources. I timed myself and I usually can walk it in an hour. I think somebody made a chart to indicate which are best to sell, and which to destroy. I even will go to other cities with fortifying walls and walk around them. And myself, I prefer Kassandra. She is my second favorite Assassin's Creed Character after Ezio Auditore da Frieze. I think, because you play as Alexios instead, she gets overlooked. Just like the female character Eivor, as I did, and still kind of do. Thumbs up.
Odyssey should have been the start of a brand new franchise based around Alexios/Kassandra given that they are immortal and each subsequent game would be set further forward in time. It should have been called Mercenaries Creed too because Alexios/Kassandra felt more like mercenaries than assassins.
Odyssey is easily the best AC game. 2nd best at worst. It's definitely the most fun I have with the franchise.
I played it once at launch and liked it a bit, over the years I admit being influenced by some of the AC fanbase talking down on odyssey And developing a feeling of disinterest in it, played it and beat it recently and I actually liked it a lot more than the first time I played it
Interesting. By the way, personally, I prefer Odyssey's cutscenes over Valhalla's, as it is more dynamic, while most of Valhalla's and Mirage's cutscenes are very stiff, still. Also, Odyssey has more mo-capped cutscenes than Valhalla or Mirage does, but less than Origins'. Just my take.
I truly don't care what anybody else thinks. This game is and will always be one of my top 3 favorite assassin creed games.
I personally really enjoyed it. It was incredibly fun and I liked the characters and map overall
ODYSSEY IS THE BEST AC GAME ❤ There, I said it! Kassandra is amazing, the world is vast and gorgeous, love the Bloodline and Cult story, naval combat is fun, plenty of loot, varied gameplay and builds, fun dialogue, great DLCs. And to those who thinks they should drop Assassin’s Creed from the title, screw you. It’s an AC game like RE4 is a RE game without zombies. It has all the core mechanics from an AC game in it. Its DNA is everywhere. It’s during a period before the Assassins and the Hidden Ones, that’s all.
I remember when I first saw this game I was so skeptical because it didn't look like an AC game, but when I ended up playing it last year I found myself actually enjoying it for what it was and not trying to see what wasn't. As you said in the video it felt like a spartan rpg set in Greece (which is beautiful) I find myself going back sometimes just to explore the world
i feel like ubisoft kinda shot themselves in the foot when they decided the assasins/hidden ones were founded during ancient egypt. this made it so they can't really do a proper ac game anytime before then, because they can't include assassins in an ASSASSIN'S creed game.
Agreed. Also, when it comes to post launch contect, the DLCs kinda f*cked up the lore a lil bit sometimes; with the kassandra/aya thing (in origins we dont see aya and her son khemu exhibiting isu dna when come to contact with the apple of eden, excepting aya interacting inside the siwa vault, and the apple not showing connection to khemu), darius also doing a leap of faith, the pyramids in the last cinematic being built in the 5th-4th century xD. How the order of ancients made a way into greece thanks to the cult of kosmos decline is explained well and the darius killing xerxes cinematic was nice I personally prefer fate of atlantis because, even tho its way more grindy than lotfb and its based on isu simulations made by aletheia which are mixed with kassandra's greek cosmovision, but also have interesting pieces of info detailing isu society & politics (specially in atlantis city). The present day is kinda wack and cringy sometimes, having layla as a protagonist that none of us empathized back then, before darby mcdevitt (in valhalla) managed to connect all the plot holes left by past games Ultimately, both DLCs suffer from mediocre cinematics due to the lack of mocap, similar to the main game & big part of the RPG era
My favourite AC game, I love Kassandra, she is the best protagonist!
As an OG AC fan, Odyssey is my favourite.

Lately been wanting to jump back into this game. Though the game has glaring isssues with its narrative a bit and Kassandra not really having a personality, it was still way less grindy somehow compared to Valhalla’s never ending epic. I beat Odyssey and its DLC content in about the same amount of time it took me to just complete Valhalla’s main quest lines.

I started playing odyssey two weeks ago and the thing I can say is that it is fun in my opinion but the part that disappoints me is that I just got to level thirteen and it gives me higher level quests, but once I complete all the lower level ones I'm stuck in a bind because my character is still lower level afterwards. The part that gives me the ick in this game is the low amount of side quests or main quests. I get very bored on all sorts of games when they start to run out of side quests, Here is my question, how or were can I get more EXP and materials to help me play this game in specific?
I basically feel the same but conflicted 😅 if you ignore the cash grab(hex currency thing) and some mythical stuff(aka extremely semi futuristic stuff), it's kinda a great history game & sea battle animal interactions are fun😀(mainly sharks eating the enemy)
finished my third play through earlier this year, love this game
I felt pretty much the same. I swear there was a point where I just forgot about my bounty and was fighting 3 or 4 mercenaries at the same time lol. I actually played all these games in reverse starting with Valhalla then this game and just beat origins. I only played their main stories but I could tell Origins had the best writing which drew me in more the most so it’s the only game I got a dlc to keep playing because I loved the story so much and with the hidden ones dlc I’m playing rn I love it even more. Odyssey is a 2nd for sure though. I love Valhallas world but the story feels like they doubled down on every negative you mentioned with Odyssey.
I didn’t play any AC cuz I hear ppl complaining about the series’s all the time. After playing 4-5 AC game, I realize it’s because the bar is just so high
The world is so open Magical and well made. I also really appreciate how much u like and talk about this game u always give it credit
I liked odyssey more after I played it for myself because All the reviews I watched at the time said it sucked 😅 and it ruined it for me this is why I don’t watch negative reviews for video games anymore 😂 I’ve been playing odyssey the past couple days finishing the dlc I bought the season pass and never got past the fate of Atlantis episode one 😅 it’s pretty fun so far keep up the good work bro 😎
I really enjoyed the game but I agree with all those flaws. One additional one is while in most Assassin’s Creed games I feel like a hero helping out the people, this one I just felt like I was playing a psychopath killing people indiscriminately by the end - this was how you had to play not just my gameplay choices. Also did you play the Odyssey/Valhalla crossover dlc? I did think that acted like a good final ending to the game.
I think it’s a C-tier assassins creed game. I think it is a classic “too many cooks” situation. There is too much going on, and it’s way too easy to get lost in what to do. It’s a good game, but, it could be better.
The first and only AC game I played was AC2 back in 2009. Started Odyssey recently (now being that all or most of the AC games are free on the 2nd tier of PS+) 25 hours in atm. Picked Odyssey because of that previous video on this channel and others. The reason why I didnt keep up with AC (I adored AC2) was because these games came out just about every year and I couldnt keep up with them. Since I had only played one AC game previously, I dont have such a strict POV on how the game should be. All I can say is Im enjoying the heck out of Odyssey. I stopped watching during the Canon section of the video since spoilers were incoming but do agree with some of the earlier points. The world is so vast and gorgeous yet overwhelming but still love it. Also the amount of side quest and the constant swapping out better gear that was picked up has been getting a bit tiresome. Overall, Im enjoying the game, gameplay/story and all. Looking forward to Shadows and also going back and playing some of the previous ACs. Great channel, glad I found your vids!
I absolutely love greek history so it's my favorite AC game just for that reason 😅
I love large worlds like Odyssey.
Hey haven't wacthed the vid yet, but I personally despise odyssey, I dont like the rpg elements, it just doesn't fit in assassin's creed, origins was dine, but I woudve perferes it to be more relistic like unity, it doenet have blending, stealth is preetu non existent, this story has nothing to do with assassin's or templars which imo is not good, I dont understand what was ubisoft thinking making this game, it they wanted to make rpg games then don't put in assassin's creed, it just doesn't work. Edit: I wacthed it, I agree with evryone the hidden goat said.
What a fantastic game ... One of my top 3 for sure along side black flag and origins
Idc what you guys say but Kassandra looks fine Ngl
BRO this game is so good I’m 12 years old
I respect that people can love and enjoy this game, I'm glad that people do like it. But for me as a fan of older games i find myself hating this game. Its not a bad game but it wasn't for me.
The problem with people saying that there's no hidden blade always blows my mind cause Odyssey is set a few centuries before Origins. Origins is called that because you get to see the ORIGINS of the Brotherhood. It wasn't even a thing in Odyssey. Now could they have made the game and not thrown on the ac logo? Yeah but it is part of the series whether people want it to be or not
As you level up enemies are not that hard to beat because you are able to come up with a powerful build with some good engravings.then you can become a badass and have fun. Also dont have to worry about mercenaries when you are powerful. Thats where the fun lies in odyssey. Not the story. Just have be patient in the first 10-20 hours until you have good gear and engaravings. And engarvings are very important to make a good build
No mention of the Odyssey x Valhalla crossover event quest? Where Kassandra goes on a 6 months hiatus so she can unwind & gets a apple of Eden that shuts off her spear.
I love ancient greece, ancient greek language and religion, everything, that's why I love this game. It's my favourite in fact

I loved the stories and quests but yeah ending was a bit meh. Loved exploring caves and undersea areas. Gameplay never felt too grindy, when one bit got boring I just did a different active for a while. Conquest battles/ factions controlling regions could have been done better. Mercenaries got boring quickly but were a good idea just badly implemented. Lack of mocap didn’t feel like too big a deal breaker.
About the story ending, I'll add that the fact you had multiple possible endings made the first DLC's story kinda weird. Like, Kassandra has traveled across all of Greece to reunite her family, and she's not going to see them ever again, now? Not even after you forge a new family?
I loved Odyssey, and I spent a lot of time with. Its the only AC game where I've actually bothered with the DLC too. But . . . I do get some of the criticisms of it not fitting into the mainline 'canon'. I also feel like some the disparate opinions come from whether someone approached it as an 'OldCreed' style game, thinking they could simply go from main mission to main mission, then getting frustrated that they actually had to do side quests, or if they approached it as an RPG fan. OldCreed games just had busy work activities that didn't really matter and most skipped, while Odyssey actually had more RPG-like side quests.
I just miss the brotherhood recruits, hopefully ACShadows may have ❤
I remember back in 2019 someone called AC odyssey a "messy masterpiece" and it couldnt have done a better job at summing it up with two words. The game is so well done, just doesnt fully come together like games like witcher, bg3, or even skyrim. but the foundation of a 10/10 game IS there
And now, Shadows, made by the same studio, Ubisoft Quebec, will be An Asian Odyssey, literally and figuratively. I hope they're going all out on this one because one never know when are they're going for another Asian mainline setting again 🙏
I know that there is a lot of side quests and a lot of things to do in this game and it can feel overwhelming but like people complain about having ti many things to do and to many hours to play. Isn’t it a good thing. That what i payed for. I love that there is so many things to do and the game forces you to do it. Why is it a bad thin? Some mercenaries are very hard to fight i agree but if its harder it makes it more fun

I think it still deserves a AC title and it has ac lore ac always believed in Demi gods Bible prophecy’s and mythology and they Believed you could find all this stuff through the animus Ac orgins, odyssey, Valhalla and mirage and shadows are the part of the series that rewards you for letting you play with the Demi Gods they have the apple of Eden in their blood they were more than trained assassin’s and they are the reason why new assassins use stealth so much to compete with these Demi Gods like Alexios , eivor, bayek, basim and maybe even include this in shadows they all have isu blood it’s still following lore Altair and many other assassin’s who had the apple of Eden was able to fight like them when they had it in their possession 💯
Oddysey crossover event ending in actual oddysey was better than the family ending for me
The first time I played this game I quit because of the overload of quests that popped up after completing the prologue. On top of the amount of things you had to discover in each area just stressed me out
Odyssey was the first ac game I played and I loved it. Got me into the series and I’ve since played every game except syndicate. I completely understand the argument that it isn’t a great ac game but it is an incredible game and if you can compartmentalize and think of it not as an ac game or as a spinoff focusing on the isu, then it is a very good game. I totally understand why hardcore fans don’t like it though because there really isn’t much in the way of assassins or templars in any way

Greece deserved real Assassin's with a real AC game. They leaned hard into the setting and forgot the series namesake. On the other hand, the Greeks have been in the background of a lot of AC games. 2, Revelations, Origins, Mirage. Personally I wouldn't mind another title with the map size of Odyssey but they should actually aim to put more care into the various locations and quests
I love Odyssey. While it never should have been an Assassin's Creed game-it just doesn't fit the series' identity-I adore the setting and thoroughly enjoyed the gameplay. The beautiful world, combined with the moment-to-moment exploration and sense of adventure, hit all the right notes for me. Honestly, just calling it Odyssey would have sufficed, as it truly feels like your own epic journey. For what it aims to do, it's fantastic.
I just see this as a greek rpg game, not an ac game
Ay I hope you se this you really made my day
I love the AC franchise. I enjoyed the old games at the time they were released. But the thing i love about AC is the countries/cultures they expore in great detail. That is why Origins and Oddessy are my 2 and 3 favourite AC games. (NR01 being black flag) Oddessy has a poor main story, and an even worse modern story, and the ending is clearly rushed and weak. But that being such a small part of the game overall, it does not bother me much. I was too busy sailing my ship around the massive open world.
Could you imagine the shitstorm if the next Call of Duty were a street fighter game? Even if it was the best street fighter of all time?
The biggest problem of this game is that the true story is in a dlc which is in storytelling not that but not that great either
It's not a mess😊
I need help game doesnt launch
I think everyone should play the RPG assassins creed their not aa bad as people say
I started a new game 2 weeks ago. I am 80hrs deep now and I have completed 80% of the game, locations, ostrakas, sidequests etc. Bro this is game is too big! I wanna add this game has a really good HDR support I looks stunning on ps5 with my MicroLED QLed TV (1000 nits).

@@SWViking bro I'm not lying, this is my second playthrough so I know all the the tricks 😂, I clean big fortresses in seconds by using OP assassin abilities like the rush assassination power with armor, weapons and bow which can push my assassin numbers and using cool engravings that U find in the greece, I am actually 78 hrs deep, I played today and I have 4 States missing (the big ones) Achia, the one where Sparta is and others lands, I remember playing this game back in 2022 for the first time and after 120hrs I hated it, never got 100% of the base game but now I am willing to get that freaking platinum trophy! But not willing to play the DLC content again 😂.

@@SWViking and yep I was kind of grinding but the game rewards every time U complete a location so it's unintentional 😂 I just wanted to get the platinum trophy once for all and have 100% of the game because that's what I do and I have done in every AC game since 2012 with AC 2.

They should have 2 game titles thier main titles assassins creed ...... and games set in the assassins creed universe but not an assassins creed game under assassins creed presents ...... . origins, valhalla and odyssey would fall under this banner

Only Valhalla and odyssey not origins
I felt pretty tired of this game when I finished it 5 years ago. I gave it another chance, willing to complete it 100% (well except for full engravings and these passive skills that are clearly meant for New Game + grind). I finished it today after 4 months and just wanna say it really was made with fun and passion, It’s such an unique game that I dare to play it not as an AC game, but an epic Greek story that just so happened to have a crossover with Assassins Creed lol
I genuinely wish the whole narrative of the game was more in line with the LOTFB DLC.
A detail I still cant forgive the game is that u are not allowed to carry a shield in Battle, it was the peak of the greek phalanx and fighting in formation with the shield was an essential part of the military drill especially in Sparta. Here u just go on a solo rampage with evryone fighting for himself in undisciplined fashion. And Origins showed fighting with a shield is possible, so why they deleted this for ancient greece?
AC Odyssey is just a prototype Immortal Phenix Rising pitch for Ubisoft higher ups who have been actively blocking & refused to Green light “Original IP” Projects time & time again, so Ubisoft poorly rebranded it as an Assassin’s Creed Game to get the game made released so when it succeeded the executives had no choice but green light the original pitch as they proved that the original pitch was a profitable venture that will guarantee a return on their investment. So basically they just Clickbaited AC fans into purchasing a completely different game to restore Investor Confidence in the commercial viability of creating Original IP’s..
playing this as kassandra is just a treat
I truly love u bro for making this video. But a question I have played Odyssey and still playing after 100s of hours but i haven't played dlc yet so is season pass worth to buy.

IMO you don’t have to get the Legacy of the First Blade DLC(although this DLC contains one of the best ability-fury of the bloodline), but the Atlantis DLC is definitely worth it. With this DLC you will be able to get up to 54 ability points per ng+, 10 new abilities(one of them used to be the strongest ability-Ares Madness), access to some of the best weapons and engravings, and some of the coolest transmog as well. The newly discovered two billion damage glitch also requires a special engraving(assassin damage conversion)from the Atlantis DLC.

No matter if you buy the season pass(contains both DLCs)or the Fate of Atlantis DLC solely, you will get all 3 episodes for the Fate of Atlantis DLC

Ikr this game is just so damn good that even a f2p player like me can still enjoy the game This game is simply much better in any kind of aspects than Valhalla imo
I play Odyssey and Valhalla as games in a historical setting.. not an AC game... When I want to goof around in ancient greece I boot up Odyssey :D Like a few month ago after watching Troy with the fam
Most of the choices can be easily changed (Which should've been more relative to difficulty). Leonidas spear 🤦. Who thought that going to isu place just to charge the thing is actually cool. Finally I did a reddit post hard combat. Most of the PC Players are fine. But for me either the enemy get OP while I'm low or dude always somehow deregister my combat inputs. At first I thought it's my controller But no it's not. However I'm both in love and hate situation with this game!
I low-key find it funny that you made this video 2 hours ago. Considering I just picked this game back up after a few years.
I have over 1000 hours on this game
I loved this game very much!
I really enjoyed odyssey as a game but i want to be an assassin in assassin's Creed, origins makes sense because youre the beginning, but odyssey had basically nothing to do with it and valhalla you just had a buddy that was an assassin

Also not sure if its true but i heard the reason the voice acting sucks if you picked alexios is because it was supposed to be kassandra as the lead and then when they were almost done ubisoft execs made the devs add a male option to play as the the voice actors had to record each others lines when they were supposed to be done so there was less effort put in
