I Love a Sunburnt Country; A Land of Sweeping Plains…Eps 6.

Join ol’ mate as he starts the long journey home from Coffs Harbour on the East Coast to his home town of Perth on the West Coast. Ordinarily, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal but this Rider decides to go thru Central Australia just to mix it up a little. 7 days, 5,000km thru some of the most remote landscapes in the World. What could possibly go wrong?
Grab ya gear; Lets go!

I like your videos. Im still shocked every time when i see the fuel consumption of these bikes. 6L/100km is car territory. My landcruiser at 3 tonnes gets 12L/100km on those same tracks. Bike manufacturers have a lot of catching up to do. Euro 7 will catch them sooner rather than later

More excellent content, Steve, that 30 minutes went way too quickly. Hopefully, a mate and I will be doing the Strz. in a few weeks. We are doing the Border Run, coming from Brisbane, then hanging around SA for a week before attending the OCR the following weekend. The plan is to head north from Arkaroola before picking up the Strzelecki, but we are already keeping a weather eye out and checking road conditions. I'll be on an R100GS, my mate on his highly modified R9T Urban GS. PS: Have you seen images of the upcoming R1300GSA? What a beast, I bet you can't wait to get your hands on one of those. 🙂

Thanks for taking us along , been a great trip 23:49 Climate : gotta be pretty dumb not to think something is a changing ---- 30-40 years back a couple old farmers told me things were a changing. 7:28 coffee : useless fact: morning a cup of water does very similar to a morning cup of coffee ---- your body is likely dehydrated (8 hours since a drink and that drink was likely alcohol) and your body is craving water. Coffee just adds another hit mainly because you believe it's true ---- it is true but .......

Our first big ride was around Australia in 1997, when I rode a 1963 BSA Rocket Gold Star and the wife was on a 1982 500cc Moto Guzzi Monza. We did the complete trip in 54 days, stopping off at Harrietville on the way home for a Jampot ‘Matchless” rally. We really miss those however we can now re-live them watching your fantastic motorcycle adventures. Allan & Leonie😎

Early 1940s my father took a water boring plant from Adelaide to Alice Springs on the old Ghan rail line for the Commonwealth Civil Construction Service. From the Alice, he moved to the Hartz Ranges to bore for water for the Mica Miners. Mica being a mineral needed for the manufacture of radio valves necessary during WW11. He was successful in finding water, and I believe his bores still provide water for the district.

Another ripper trip Steve! Dontcha just love the big ole road trains through the night? Yep and ole man emu, they are the hardest wildlife to spot especially beside the road, but they’re smarter than your average ‘roo!

But was really surprised to see how much black top is further out west, may look to take my Honda a bit further a field yet, cheers

Interesting that they still have those single lane tarmac roads in QLD and SA. They seem to have all gone in WA. I remember driving on one with my mum as a kid in the 70s and her telling me how prone they were to causing rollovers because of people braking while half on half off. Watching your adventures makes me realise how long it has been since I went over east. Definitely looking forward to doing a trip over there now.

I know all that area of outback Queensland, Moomba oilfields, Simpson Desert from drilling all those holes out there for the now dreaded fossil fuels, and I know Neil Mansell the name on the truck at 14:14 got to be in his 80's now. No desire to go there again but happy to watch the videos! Thanks.
