"I'll sing, but don't record me!" (former Voice of Ireland Contestant)

Музыка

On Halloween 2021, I went to Union Square (New York City) and asked random people to sing with me. That's when I met Nollaig O'connor! Though Nollaig loves to sing, she has been held back my shyness. That didn't stop her from being a contestant on "The Voice of Ireland" (a singing competition TV show in) in 2011. That also didn't stop her from singing with me on this day. In this video, play a song we both love, "Zombie" by the Cranberries. It clearly makes her happier, to have this random chance to sing one of her favorite songs in public. It did the same for me!
As a musician, I'm all about creating musical experiences that have people feeling happy and free, and that's why the "Sing With Me" series exists. Since 2018, I have asked thousands of random people to sing with me on camera. A lot of people have said no, some have said no initially but changed their minds to yes, and some have said yes right away. I ask these people to sing with one purpose: to create a way for them to experience a sense of happiness and freedom they did not feel before. And much of the time, this actually works (and that makes ME happy).

Lyrics:
Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence, caused such silence
Who are we mistaken?
But you see, it's not me
It's not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh
Do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do
Do, do, do, do
Another mother's breaking
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken
It's the same old theme
Since nineteen-sixteen
In your head, in your head, they're still fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head, they are dying
In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, ay, oh, ya ya

I don't think it was just that, she definitely was living in the moment. But I also think she didn't want to give him her personal contact information, in case for example he finds out who she is (he did) and spread it for other people to harass her etc. Even when she's talking about where she's from she begins getting hesitant. I don't blame her at all.

@@TransoceanicOutreach The song is about The Troubles. It was a time of high tension between the Irish and the British where the IRA and the British army/police fought eachother heavily. It's a complicated history as to why but the basics are that the British treated the Irish as second class citizens in Northern Ireland and the IRA wanted to unite all of Ireland again under one flag. Both the British and the IRA committed atrocities in the names of their causes with the IRA bombing a lot of buildings and the British using brutish police to try and quell the IRA. The song is directed towards the IRA I believe, trying to say that the war for Independence is over. There is no war and yet there is still violence. "Their still fighting, in your head, Zombie." She was trying to say that the conflict was created over figments of people's imagination, anger over something that should have been left well in the past as there was little to no conflict between the times of the troubles and the Irish revolution. That's not to say the British weren't horrible to the Irish, she just is saying that it never had to go that far.

  • @themakerstoolbox9688

    @themakerstoolbox9688

    2 жыл бұрын

@lukesfx It's a song specifically about the troubles, a terrible conflict that happened in Northern Ireland. That's why this person is saying that they get emotional when an Irish person sings it. Sinéad isn't singing about bombs in general, she is talking about specific bombings.

They understand for awhile, that they don't understand. Then they unintentionally say things that hurt. I'm old and you probably are young. So please try your best to live a fun life on your good days, while embracing and excepting the days that immobilize you. I on the other hand pray for peace if you know what I mean. I'm a pianist and some people said to me the same thing and don't want me to stop. But there is a difference between doing it for ourself and for others... Some people just don't feel the need to do stuff in public. We doing it for us, for passion and that's it. Don't force someone to do something he/she don't want to... She sang at the Voice, but it's more for people who want to be singer and live of it. That's why she prefer to keep her singing for herself and that's fine. I don't really know why when someone have a talent, people want them to share it with everyone. Some people play video games alone, others not, same for singing or any instruments, some people build houses on stream, others not... You don't only need the talent, you need to want to share it.

Music is also a pathway to peace and happiness. Nobody can be sad when they are dancing to music or singing their hearts out. It cheers up everybody including the performer. It helps with mental illness and dementia. Music is awesome and this is coming from somebody who can’t even read a note. P.s. my daughter has mental issues and music is one of the few things that helps her lives peacefully.

Being a singer is more than simply having a good voice and even in this performance you can see she's a bit uncomfortable being the center of attention. Nevertheless, I don't think the show made her feel she wasn't good enough, simply that singing in front of millions of people maybe wasn't for her.

@@darrylkassle361 it requires years of practice and devotion to the art. I have a guitar but will never have the time or talent to do this. Much of it is building an awareness of chords, typical progressions, learning your scales, etc. I think if you dig in with serious intent, and devote a lot of time to learn, you finally get there. But you have to be serious about it. To start, just learn a single tune. Then another, and another. And so on. Eventually, you build up a repertoire. And with that, you begin to learn how to interpolate, extend, ad lib and so forth. The best part about this guy is that it comes along with a charismatic personality and humility.

The song of the Irish girl singer touches my heart. I like the vibrato in your voice which seemed being brought with from your homeland. I have been to Dublin. I like the Irish people. I like your voice. Keep on singing Irish girl!

She was dead lovely and humble. Great voice. Love to hear her sing again.

Wow! Nollaig nailed it! I always feel Zombie is just better with an Irish voice - she proved it to me yet again!
