There's a soft, personal quality about this cover... it feels closer to the heart. Open. The original has an aspirational feeling, as if the singer is promising their love for a distant future. Your cover feels like a quiet promise for a rapidly approaching future. Almost apocalyptic, but not in such a sorrowful way as that word implies. A promise whispered from one person to another.

Me too.
I’ve gone through a lot of stages with this song. I listened to Plans in high school probably a million times when it first came out. When I got a bit older, this song struck me as kind of cynical coming from a young artist. It felt more like a grandiose declaration for a 29 year old that ultimately maybe didn’t mean anything. On the flip side, as many other commenters have said, hearing someone who is older sing this song feels more impactful. For the first time I started thinking about my grandparents who died three years to the day apart, my grandmother first followed by my grandfather. As I get older, I learn to value the way that partners can grow, like two trees, entwined and around each other, as opposed to the newness and exhilaration of early romance. With dreams of the future also comes acknowledgment that with love comes the inevitable risk of loss. ❤
Lost my father in law a year ago. Another amazing guitarist. One who lived at his job, literally, for 20+ years as a homeless man. Really only loved freedom. Navy vet. But never spoke of it.. His cancer was sudden. We lost a gem of music. This makes me think of him. Thank you. Wish I could hear him say "it will come, kiddo" one last time. It would mean the world for me and my family.
This is like when Johnny cash covered hurt. Just takes the song to a whole new level

Very similar to Johnny Cash playing Hurt
Hearing this song get covered by this man fills me with such a bittersweet feeling The soft spoken lyrics along with the amazing acoustic guitar skills makes me feel calm and in a weird way fluffy The reason I say bittersweet is it makes me think about my grandpa, while I personally didn’t have as much of a deep connection with him like my parents or other family members, I still loved that man and every second hanging around him was a blast, the fact his dog best friend kolino chased us for miles all the way to the burial site and his final request was to have a mariachi band play his favorite song as he got lowered really got to me I doubt you or many people will see this but great work, I really can’t express how happy I am to have come across this ❤

I love this song so much. I like to sing it to my s/o when he's feeling down and just hold him. He's been through a lot and i like to use it to remind him that he's loved. I think this is my favorite version so far. Many other covers or versions just feel so hollow in their performance. This though. This has feeling behind it. I hear you.

Im not a huge fan of the original but this version makes me feel like it's written to be sang by someone who's lived a long life
frank, you are an absolute legend. i'm so glad you're making music on youtube. this is an absolutely beautiful rendition of this song, your playing and singing are so gorgeous. i hope you keep doing this for a long time, sir.
Makes me miss my mom who passed away 2 months ago. Makes me feel sad but whatever helps me remember her I cant stay away from. God bless you Frank. Hope you keep touching hearts and souls for many years to come.
The fact that he is liking all the comments makes it legendary :')

This is what Death Cab would sound like if sung by Leonard Cohen. Amazing.

nothing but love for death cab for cutie, but THIS is how the universe meant for this song to be performed 🥲
I have no idea why KZread is recommending this to me, but I'm glad it did

What a beautiful and emotional song and performance. Well done, and thank you for sharing it with us💙
Thank you for sharing this with us. Thank you for taking a song from my early years and giving it such a deeper meaning and more intimate feeling. This was beautiful. This is a song covered too many times and this cover was the only one we actually needed 🖤
Was gonna say the classic “I’m not crying you’re crying” but honestly I’m sobbing
I don't understand how KZread works, but I am glad this randomly showed up into my recommended videos. You are basically Leonard Cohen with this one.

You found and delivered a song so perfectly. I could not imagine this cover not resonating with someone. I hope you never lose your spark
You play beautifully, Frank. Please continue to make these lovely covers. You are appreciated! ♥
what Ben Gibbard didn't know was that he wrote this song so one day you could perform it.

Absolutely, he makes this song his own.
I remember being a teenager, listening to this song to calm myself whenever I was having a panic attack or struggling mentally. I haven’t heard it in a few years and I’m so happy YT recommend this to me. What a heart warming and comforting feeling this brought to me 🥺 thank you for sharing!

Wow, I listen to this song, and all the pain and grief and guilt come back, and I'm a wreck again. Amazing how we can have such opposite reactions to the same song.
Best cover. The way he just pauses and sings each word it means something. This cover makes you just want to listen so intently. ❤❤❤❤ love this.
Thank you for this version of this song, this is really good, so calming and I really like it!!
I lost both my grandparents in 2020. First my grandma and then my grandfather soon after. This song reminds me so much of them

Hope you find time to grieve Alexis. Every now and then I pull out an album of photos of my partner's grandmother, who passed, and we go through all the stories we can think of at the time. It helps a bit.

I am sorry for your loss. May your grandfather & grandmother rest easy.
I found this video on my 11 year wedding anniversary & this is what I walked down the aisle to. This is beautiful.
You sir, are a beautiful soul. Thank you, sincerely, for sharing your golden heart.
