Great intel, guys. I’ve gone to many comic conventions and my only mission is comics and original art. I had no idea the kind of dedication it took to go to one of the those events where you had to stand in line for 10 hours! Once again, I learned another good nugget of information.

What i might hate even more is when you see a comic you really want thats in great condition for a super good price so u snatch it up, then a few days later when your just in a normal state you come to your senses and start thinking "i cant believe i got THAT comic at THAT price, it just seems too good to be true" so you get curious and pull it out of its bag to realize its fked up on the back or something of that sort, then it hits you why the price was so good, then right after it hits you that the price wasnt that good after all, then right after that you realize that in reality you got jipped. So basically going from thinking you got a wonderful deal on a comic to realizing you got effed on it instead really sucks. Overall i love the ppl in the comic community, great ppl. But the more ways and sources i find to buy comics the more i realize that there are some pretty dishonest ppl on the selling side, on top of the fact that alot of these damn ppl just act like theyre selling gold.

"Beebackers" are a gamble that almost always pay off for me at least once per show. One out of every ten or so DOES come back and ends up dropping huge stacks of cash. What Jeff said about patience is like one of the big ones. So there I was at a comic con and I was in a line for Lee Weeks to get my Gambit signed. Next to us was the line for Jim Starlin. What I observed was a heated argument between this man and the woman in front of him. There was some name calling about her physical appearance and her cosplaying buff Wolverine husband (tank top version) jumps in (*snikt). There was some shoving but no closed fist/claw action. Eventually a bunch of red shirts from the con come to the rescue and break it up. I believe the name calling guy was escorted away. It's sad that it had to end up like that. I mean you talk to each other and nerd out with people you don't know when you are in line for ages. Talk about Starlin's latest work or how good your wolverine cosplay looks! So yeah, patience and make new friends!

I think one area that could be a good fit for this topic is those moments when you get into a bid war with someone else for an item. I think every one has come across something at a con that they absolutely needed in their collection and then in that same moment another person also needs that particular item. You both start fighting over prices.

This is another great segment, just as enjoyable as the first one. But I've got an idea-- since you've all been on the purchasing end of a transaction, how about a discussion of the challenges of dealing with the different types of sellers? You know, "The Hoarder"-- who doesn't really want to part with anything, and prices his books accordingly; "The Show-Off/Bragger"-- who is talking your ear off about what he's had/sold in the past; "The Comic God-King"-- who brings so many long boxes that you can't possibly go through all of them; "The Bad Mouther"-- who is constantly whining about how the customers at this-or-that con were "way better" than the ones at the con they are presently attending; "The Wheeler-Dealer"--who gives great discounts on bundle purchases, but has no idea how to price comics individually; "The Backstabber"-- who talks bad about other dealers to customers; etc. etc. There are challenges and funny anecdotes on both ends of the purchase transaction--after all, we're dealing with people here... and people are just funny in general. It's interesting how bad behavior on the part of either party (buyer or seller) can often foster bad behavior in the other party. This channel is one of my very favorites-- you folks cover such a wide variety of topics in a FUN and engaging manner... way better than putting up nothing but vids bitching about this or that.

The other was priced 4x guide on every key on his wall. 4x GPA for that matter. Is it possible to have a vid on dealer etiquette at con? If you want to be successful, dont try to clobber everyone, sell zero books because of the ludicrous prices, then never come back because "nobody bought".

The “be backers” are just human beings trying to be polite and embarrassed they can’t pull the trigger on stuff out of their price range. If you’re actually counting on them to come back to your booth then that’s your hang up c’mon man. Lol it comes with the profession. There’s worse things as there be backer. Keep these great videos coming! I’m happy for you guys that you can make your living selling comics. I wish I had the courage to do what you do. I chickened out and after college I went the corporate route and while I’ve had a great career monetarily I have always wished I could have have stayed in comics which is my passion. Man its harder now days to find the things you put on your list than it ever has been IMO, and when you do find some of it, its like the least important ones you wanted. And now days every back issue lot has EVERY damn thing pulled out of it leaving basically all crap that should be in 50 cent bins. With the movies and also the way collectors are now, its not just keys that are pulled out already, its almost every minor key, every book that wishes it was a minor key, any book that has any somewhat popular storyline, etc, and then they want close to 10 bucks for every random silver age comic they do have, and theyre just not worth it. And its so stressful now buying back issues when you did it as a kid over 20 yrs ago now cuz some older books that werent considered very good then are way over priced now. For example, a common one i see with stupid high prices now days are like the off beat spidey series like spectacular or web of.

As far as me ever saying I'll be right back. I always split up my cash through Mark and I. Sometimes I need to find him. Lol. Especially if it's later in the con or the day. But I try not to waste anyone's time if I can't afford a book there's no reason to stand around and stare at it. Just puts another book on my hunt list.

Whenever I go to a show I do a complete walk around before I spend a dime! So when I say I’ll be back 99% of the time I will be back! I’m not going to tie up something with a maybe! I say “I just want to do a complete walk around in case I see something I want more

I watched the first part after it was highly recommended by Chris on 'We Love Comics'. I could totally imagine all the crowd behavior as you guys described it. The "I'll be backers" would be annoying...but the poker thing would drive me nuts! Maybe put a low-grade comic up front as "the poker comic" with a sign that says "3 pokes for a dollar!"?

I remember I was at artist alley and so crowded. One cosplayer started blowing their breath on my face I turned around and scared the crap out of them yelling. “Stop!!!! I’m getting pissed off and I don’t turn green I turn red!!!” I had a small gap of space around me all of a sudden lol

I knew from the title what would come up hahaha. At the last con I went to I think a seller thought I was a 'Be Backer'. Genuinely had less cash than I thought and said I'd be back. Came back 20 minutes later and he seemed genuinely surprised I bought the book.

Great job sticking to your word, a common thing I like to do i is ask for a small dollar amount to hold with the book so people feel compelled to come back. I will also hold a book for 30min. It has worked outstanding for me. Sometimes someone will return after 30min but they have always understood that a book can’t be held indefinitely.

That's a great idea and in future I might suggest that myself if they don't. This wasn't a large con and the book wasn't expensive enough to really be able to do that, but definitely in the future!

I've never been to one of the big Cons with the movie panels and actors, I live in Charlotte and go to the HeroesCon here in the summer, the great thing about this one is they don't do the actors anymore, which I really like cause its all about the comics and more so about the artists, I had the 3 day pass this past summer and it still wasn't enough time to dig, lol....maybe one year you guys can come here and check it out.

Don't forget to promote good hygiene for all collectors... nothing is worse than talking with the "Dragonbreath" collector or going through books next to the collector who thinks deodorant is optional. If you are old enough to afford collecting, you can take care of yourself, if not for yourself, for the sake of those around you!

At Cons and in Comic stores what is the etiquette for negotiating on price? Is it like street corner stands where you should always negotiate or is there a certain price range or type that should be negotiated?

Last Comic Con I went to I crossed path with no less than a dozen people with horrible body order. Also made small talk with a guy complimenting my Godzilla hoodie. Nice dude, painful breathe. Personal hygiene isn't that complicated people. Be as lazy as you wish at home, but when sharing public space have courtesy for others, please.

Let's talk about dealers too. Some people are so unapproachable and act like an elitist. If you mention a book or a series they may poo-poo your choice and honestly.. dealers shouldn't have a negative attitude. So many times I have dealt with shitty dealers that treat you like you don't belong there.

You NEED to do a video on PANEL ETIQUETTES!! Horror stories of fans asking questions. Don’t ask for selfies. Don’t ask the talents to do something like ie take off their shirt. I’ve witness this and obviously the talent declined. But it’s purely disrespectful. People need to be mindful of their questions it could get so cringy.

All these 1st world problems are why I dont go to cons...plus i hate line ups..and quite frankly i would feel like a huge dork being at one. But thats just me. My loss. I agree...so many people without a pot to.piss in enquiring about books they clearly cant buy. My biggest pet peave is shops that display there books in a fashion that gets them mangled in few hours..or the shop guy mangles them himself cause hes more into magic cards lol.

Do dealers really dislike tire kickers that much? I view it as part of the business. Obviously "negotiating" with a dealer on price with no intention of buying is a bit different. In the video it does make it sound a little like dealers think selling to customers and all the trappings that come with it is a waste of their time. I don't like to waste dealers time either, but sometimes the book just doesn't strike you and you have to move on. Sometimes you really do need to think about it. Some times deals fall through and maybe the customer just doesn't want to be offensive by coming up with an excuse. However, I'll never pretend that I want to purchase a book or ask purposefully waste the time of a dealer if I am not interested. Price is often a motivating factor, and I might be pointing out (not being poking) a book to a friend and a dealer might ask if I am interested, but I will just let them know I am looking. I recently had an interaction with a dealer where we were talking about a book and he showed me a copy he had. I would love to get the book, but it was too much and the condition wasn't there, so I wasn't going to purchase, and I was fairly upfront about not being interested, but I feel a little bad that it was wasting the dealers time. I think he was just trying to get a sale. However, the interaction was pleasant and he wasn't particularly busy so I guess its fine.
