Make sure you are properly weighing each item and putting it in Shopify correctly so you can get the correct shipping price. Flat rate shipping is another option. The good thing is that you can file the difference you are paying as a expense on your taxes. Congratulations Sweetie! 🎉

Oh, one other little tip instead of using boxes, use shipping plastic bags. The bigger the bulkier the box the more it’s going to cost. I would recommend those white plastic bags with the popcorn already inside to protect your product. You can also add more of the popcorn or bubble paper inside the bag. But boxes are going to be very expensive to ship.

First, congrats on starting your biz! Shipping can be tricky but for my small biz I charge a flat rate charge for shipping based on my average cost to ship. Then I use Pirate Ship to purchase my shipping labels. You’ll save a ton with Pirate Ship

@@crystaladams3972 yes, so I tracked sales for the first month of my business and the associated cost for shipping. Then I determined the average cost. In my case it was around $9. So every customer no matter the order pays $9 for shipping. It turns out that most times that covers the cost for shipping. Sometimes it’s less and sometimes is more than the $9 but it averages out at the end of the day.

When I first started my business I had the same issue with shipping with Etsy. You have to set the weight for each product with packaging and dimensions. Make it 1 pound more and a little bigger in dimensions. This will properly cover shipping for every state. You can do flat rate, but if you have someone that is 3 hours away from you and they order a lightweight item, the shipping will be way more than it should. Split the difference with the handling cost. I lost out on one order and later spoke with a shipping specialist at UPS and USPS to help fix this issue. Also, try to ship when you can in the USPS boxes and setup a UPS business account and FEDex business account for better shipping discounts. You'll save much more and it will help your customers also.

Love those knit trivets! Congrats on your success. I ran into similar shipping issues when I first started my etsy shop and had to pay more than what my product was worth to ship something. Ugh! Learned about the flat rate shipping after that haha.

Hi love you video. Just a suggestion, why unwrap every single item, you can use baskets to put the wrapped inventory in and a sample in front of the basket so when you are shipping just grab inventory from the basket already wrapped put in a box and ship. Save money and time.

Business is always a lesson learned. You will eventually either sink or swim. Great to see that you have ventured into entrepreneurship and wishing you much success through trial and error. Trust we have all been there making bad and overlooked business decisions. It happens.

Agree with this! You can also have the USPS pick up your packages from your home front door too. Just make a USPS account setup it up with a home address and tell them how many and general weigh of the packages and they will grab them the next day. It's great! Time saver and free!

I'm a marketing agency owner and sis I have seen it all. With Black Friday/Cyber Monday coming up I would recommend you double triple check your Shopify settings and coupon codes. I have gone as far as to tell my team to screenshot any updates 😅 for paper trail purposes because Shopify is finnicky to say the least. ANYWAYS, so proud of you girl. I am a branding nerd and the branding for SM is sooooooo fabulous. Love how everything turned out. ❤️
