Robyn Adele Anderson and The Tee Tones (from our Miley Cyrus cover and others) are back to bring you the Postmodern Jukebox version of Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" - after all, the title sounds like it could have been a very innocent '50s song...

    Yeah but it sucked. She was shouting the lyrics in a robot voice from Hell. It sounded like a Nazi scientist's idea of what the future of Girl Pop would sound like. Anyone can kiss anyone, Nazi Scientist, it's the Doo-Wop 1950s!

    xKatjaxPurrsx In the 50s she would have had and easier time singing "I kissed a horse and I liked it" rather than a girl with the censorship. Hell, you couldn't even have married people in the same bed on, say the word "pregnant" , show a toilet or the sound of it flushing in the movies/TV/Radio. In the 50s married people just didnt have sex or take a shit I guess. I wonder how the Baby Boomers got here? But it explains grandpa's fixation with Metamucil. :-)

    Either way the pronouns in this song point to homosexuality, which wasn't so accepted then. Originally, it's a girl attracted to a girl, but from a boys point of vies "hope my boyfriend don't mind it" isn't much different. Sad how ignorant the world can be.

  • @samidellaidella532

    @samidellaidella532

    Liam Ryan Actually it is called performative gayness. She is alluding to an act of bisexuality and experimentation without being invested in either, and within the context of a hetero relationship, which is supposed to make her boyfriend take notice. She is putting on an exhibition. This song wouldn't make it past the censors in the 50s or 60s. Into the late 70s and early 80s the homo cryptic rockers like David Bowie, NY Dolls and Lou Reed started to challenge the norm . They were famous, but as a rule did not enjoy a lot of airplay (think Indie). when they were on TV they were forced to tone it down. The fact that this song can get airplay now is a testament to how much we have evolved as a society and in a relatively short amount of time. It's a fun pop song. I say we celebrate the fact that it can even be played without trying to analyze sub-text.

    ***** Not so much the Hippies, but the Feminist movement (which Lesbians played a huge part of) and later in 1969 after Stonewall the beginnings of Equality for all regardless of sexual preference. Later to be known as the LGTBQ movement. The Hippies as much as they were into free"Love" were never very organized, nor taken seriously beyond their corruption of youth mostly because of drugs, dropping out of society and not working. Whereas the Hippies elicited eye rolls, Feminists and Gays were a cause for alarm....and still are for some.

    ***** A week later and that is the best you can come up with? Much like on other threads, you try and change the subject (try being the operative word) and still have no clue about what you are talking about, not one iota of critical thought. Saying, "i like cheese" is about as intellectually stimulating as all of your comments. On other threads, your disparagement and fear of Lesbians coupled with the admission of arousal and masturbation to Lesbian porn is both contradictory and nonsensical. Your porn "knowledge" and description of porn genre, terms, like cuckolding, and history of the basics of US history weren't even correct. Your inexperience and immaturity is a given. You are probably some thirteen year old where freedom of expression and sex is verboten and everything you know about "'Murica!" is from Hollywood and TV. Look kid we all know that you are starved for attention, even this reply is giving you a boner. You have been skulking on this video trying to have your nonsense heard since this video was put up. We have also determined that you are neither witty nor an intellect, just another kid trolling for what he is missing in his life. You know what makes a good troll? Intelligence. A good troll sucks you into a conversation so as to think that you are having a meaningful discussion. From the outset it was obvious that you had difficulty articulating your point and could only do so by copy and pasting from Reddit, Tumblr and the like. You can keep responding and humiliating yourself by showing what a pathetic whiny prejudiced attention seeker you are. It is actually quite amusing. The real question is: Will it take you another week to cyberstalk another of my comments? Go play in traffic. Have fun.

    I think this combo is perfect, really brilliant. Between the husky/feminine flexible voice of Ms. Anderson, and the smootness/flexibility of the Tee Tones... gosh... totallty danceable, singable, memorable... and the song itself... seems just great .... for so many reasons. Love you all! Elizabeth Burke, Portland, Maine
