Crimes in that street and around have taken several lives from the 90's to these days! I lived in Waterbury for 30 years! So sad, thanks a lot for sharing the video.

Older relatives told me that Willow Street actually used to be pretty nice, back in the 1950's and maybe into the 1960's. Even today some of the big houses on the north end of the street past the firehouse are decent.

They didn't build ghettos and ask people to come lol, all cities were mostly beautifull at first until the industry that made it thrive became obsolete, the ghettos were always for lower income (and hard working) factory workers, but not Section-8 gangbanging projects they would later become

It's a shit hole. I lived there for years. The best place is Town Plot or Bucks Hill. All the far outskirts. The rest from Scott Rd to Willow and all in between. There's been more murders and shooting then ever now. I live in New Haven and I can tell you this, waterbury is like a lil Detroit. We have more shootings where I live, but also nice sections. Waterbury is just ugly, and the sun never shines even when it does. Depressing AF. I worked mr happys as a bouncer in 2004. The police are underfunded there. 20 years ago I caught 2 cases. Cops elverywhere. I don't even see them whenever I go thru now. They got me rght off Willow St in his video on Chestnut at Brick City. Don't move there if you read this. Rents cheap for a reason.

The citizens should get more for their tax dollars. In comparison with other towns/cities across the state it is bad. Y’all should demand more from your local government. I lived there for a couple of years btw. Much can be improved and help for those who need it should be given

It got so bad, even St Margaret's church and school, shuttered the doors and sold the land and buildings off. I went to grammar school, there, and received an excellent education. Though I left the Catholic Church, finding it impossible to reconcile their teachings with reality, I hated to see it sold. It's on the right, at about 10:50, at Ludlow St and Willow. This was a great neighborhood, to grow up in, in the sixties and into the early seventies.

My grandma used to have a house on Wall Street in Waterbury, I would sleep over there every Friday night. But in 2012, she had to get out of there cause of the people who wanted to steal the pipes in the house. Waterbury used to be decent when I was growing up. It's so sad to see what it has become.

We went to Wilby High School. Worked at a Deli on top of Willow. Fulton Park was beautiful. Left Waterbury in 98. Took my daughter to Deep River for High School. Even the teachers were criminals in Wtby. God rescued us from that forsaken place.

Back in the 90s there was a cop murdered shot in the face while trying to arrest a guy. And not too long ago another man was shot in the head in his car on the corner of Plaza and Willow St. It was crazy

I have driven on the highway through Waterbury for decades and always wondered what it looked like in that area by the tower. I knew a woman back around 2014 who was 94 years old then and she answered so many questions that I had. Regarding crime, she said that most people didn't have valuable items in their homes and burglaries were unheard of. Waterbury was a booming town during WWII as the city made so many brass items for the military from shell casings to hardware on ships. Brass factories worked around the clock 24/7 and so did the movie theaters, clubs, and restaurants. When WWII was nearing 1945, the factories shut down quickly and Waterbury began its decline.

In the sixties, Waterbury was named, "the brass center of the world", headed by Anaconda Brass, just south of Willow Street, on Meadow. My friends, and I, were allowed to walk downtown, to visit Howland Hughes coffee shop, at the age of 7. That's where the book, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty", was based. (He called it Walgreens, at One-East Main, but that building did not have a lower level, elevator, coffee shop, or phone booths.)

Just like any factory city in CT the factories close and the neighborhoods suffer because all the people that worked at the factory live near by. Then people find other means of survival. Some of these factories that closed almost 100 years ago still stand. My great grandmother worked at the Winchester factory on Winchester ave it still stands. They turned half of it into luxury apartments but before that it was just there.

Man I remember living by here my uncle got shot around this block for his car luckily the bullet went through his arm and no permanent damage was done apart from a scar

Between the crack epidemic and the loss of jobs in the 80's, the city of Waterbury is screwed. They've been raising taxes for years to offset their financial burdon, but its to late. This was 30 years in the making.

Yes, they closed down manufacturing, and that's really what Waterbury was known for. I grew up on Chapman, off the top of Willow (Cracker Hill), and went to St Margaret's, and then Sacred Heart. I left for Texas when I was 17.

Wish I didn't click on this video. Saw the funeral home where I attended my friend's wake our senior year of high school. Brought back some bad memories. I grew up in CT but I don't feel any sentimentality towards it. It's weird

The corner you stopped at for a long time (Hillside/Willow) is where I lived 62 years ago. Magical then.

Years ago I got smashed into on willow cuz some chick came out the side st and went thru a stop sign, she fkd up my car and her truck....

I lived off of Grove St (Second Ave) and worked EMS in Waterbury from mid 80s to early 1990s and believe me, that neighborhood wasn't that bad at all. Yeah, alot of hookers and some drug dealers. But I can give a list of other neighborhoods that were 25 times worse. Never had a problem walking at any time of the day. But, less than 4 blocks away was the North Square. Went to more shootings and stabbings there in one month than I ever did in the Willow/Grove street area.

I worked at Grove Manor back then. Always saw Sissy doing the lean and fall against the wall across the street. All hours of the day/night. Everyone knew Sissy.

Try hanging out in Hartfords North End ( Blue Hills ) now that's a dangerous area 😂

I, not to long ago-moved to Waterbury, CT... I Walk as far as the Bodega, a good 5 blocks from my residence, and No Further. When good weather, I circle my residential block for excercise..that's it!!..my neighborhood is pretty quiet tho..🙏

I’ve lived here twice now. My fathers side is from here since it was decent. My grandpa owned a cab business here. It’s like anywhere. Mind your own business and you’re fine. I live down by Baldwin. I walk my dog or just walk all over. Once people around here know that you live here they’re mostly fine with you. It’s the out of towners or people from blocks away. My family been here since my grandpa. So, they leave me alone. Lol. Also I’m white.

I do ride share and Waterbury and Hartford are the worst cities to work in. I get out as soon asd I can.

I agree with you I been in Waterbury for almost 4 years. Yes they are some ugly place poorly maintained but yet they are some nice areas too. I personally blame the mayor, police and those folks that come from NY. My husband told Waterbury isnt want it use to be.

A year. Haha. U didnt go outside much. I lived Wtby for 7 years now New Haven. I caught 2 cases by willow. On chestnut by brick city. And north main. Its grimy and everyone trying to pull a lick. Especially the kids.

Actually, Willow St. was always bad. It is adjacent to an area of fabulous big old mansions. There are beautiful sections of Waterbury also.

It is what you make of it. Good people and bad are everywhere, some of the worst places I've lived were white crime 24/7. Bristol is no better than Waterbury, no better than Watertown, drugs are fkn everywhere. Blame O'Leary for allowing this blight and NY absentee landlords coming in and letting our city fall to pieces. The mayor needs to go and take the lazy ass cops who don't want to ticket people littering. I'm sorry they may not want to earn their paycheck, but that's part of the job and they could be making bank for the city to fix this shit. We all need to work together to fix this but absentee every ones are not helping!
