I think the iphone 8 is perfect besides the battery its the best for 10 year olds to play games on and other things to.

You should try the google pixel A series line up , those phones are really great for cameras , not as great as iphone pro max but atleast they can be compared .....

iPhone 8 in 2023 is still good, and for 2024 it would still be good, you just need to replace the battery once it hit the 85% mark.
