You know this is a good coach/player pairing at 5:29. Keb is being very hard on Trey for missing, without giving much coaching. Instead of shrinking, Trey challenges Keb and asks for coaching. Keb gives great explanation of what he is seeing, Trey listens. They go back to work. Great Lesson.

Most coaches aren't hard enough on students for missing. You'll be a far more successful tennis player if you really pay attention to getting the ball in... after all that's what it's all about. If you keep missing the same way and don't effect some kind of change... that's frustrating for a coach. Winners are fun, hitting hard is fun, but for 90% of tennis play out there simply keeping the ball in and not over hitting is a winning strategy.

No knock on Scott, but i've realized you have to get coaching more than twice a month for it to do anything. Scott has to teach that way, if we went out and just rallied for an hour lesson and he told me to get it in more it would seem like a waste of time. It is not a waste of time doing that when you are seeing that person every day and they can make small tweaks.

@@Winners-Only Receiving coaching every day is ideal, of course. But it also is extremely expensive. IMO the minimum should be once a week. Ideally, twice a week, for adults.

I love the ending comments from Keb.. obviously his improvements is pretty incredible for 7 days. He's just gotta believe in that bh, let it go..loose early prep, commit, but I can see why focusing on it could be hard as his fh is much stronger and he's more confident so he'll run around it vs hitting a bh that in his mind he believes is weak.. definitely that volley drill at the end just shows a lot of good footwork and putting the ball back to Keb with pace over and over..

Interesting to see the progression that not only you made through the week, but that Keb made as a teacher. Initially he seemed to be a bit of a douche and wasn't doing a very good job at all at coaching (criticizing and getting angry/frustrated without providing any actual constructive advice on how to improve), but later in the week he appeared to mellow out and started to provide you with practical information pertaining to exactly what you needed to do to improve specific aspects of your game. Great vid!

If you watch the end of the video he explains what he was doing. He was testing how much he could push and his maturity level. With a mature person, you can give those bursts of negativity and it will motivate them. If you can't handle that type of feedback that doesn't make you less of an individual, you just aren't going to respond as well to coaching.

I played tennis for over 40 years, I wish I could spend couple of hours with that guy to maximize my tennis. His improvement was unreliable, he improved based on the commitment but again I see the coach's being a great influence on that. What you shared was fantastic, thanks!!!

Man that was some great improvement. Was going to say keep everything flowing, then yeah Kevin just said near 6:30. Instead of muscling it and doing a faster and bigger stroke, try ordered fluidness. Have a much more loose grip. It will reduce the blisters, and specially allow much more power in the stroke. Start your stroke from the ground up. You'll get it!! Which Pro Staff are you using? Strings and tension? Really like your video and attitude man. Refreshing to see someone with a nice, humble, and great attitude. Cheers to you bro!!

Great video I love the content man. Beyond the fluidity Keb mentioned, one thing that really helped improve my backhand was thinking about driving with my left arm and extending fully through the shot with my body weight. I would also watch videos of Nalbandian backhands and note how simple his motion is. You don’t need to do a whole lot to produce quality balls. Regardless, you have come a long way in a short time keep up the good work!

Great work, saw a lot of improvement on both sides. One small tip, that backhand would improve further if you make the head of the racquet dip below the ball before contact. This helps you impart topspin to create a better shape and more safety over the net.

At first I saw Keb as very negative but glad that changed at the end of the video! As a fellow teaching pro, I get amazing results from positive encouragement and setting hitting goals and targets. It’s sooo important to build someone’s confidence before breaking them down. Also, you want to start your unit turn as early as possible; mainly before the ball crosses the net. You should be swinging into the bounce and holding the ball on the strings as long as possible. I didn’t see any mention of split step or balance which is critical to building a strong foundation in tennis! At the end of the day hard work pays off and they both had some great results.

You probably wouldn't want this type of coaching when first starting out but for an intermediate wanting to make quick progress in a short space of time then it has to be challenging and occasionally brusque. I dont see the value of dumping a load of technical instruction here either other than correcting any obvious problems. Keb was just trying to refine and embed the technique that's already there through repetition and discipline. Its definitely the kind of coaching I would respond to but maybe not for everyone.

Your backhand is night and day, great job. On your forehand, it seems like you're using too much arm to generate speed and not enough of your body weight. Load off the right and transfer the weight forward when you're hitting for effortless power. Doing that with the racquet speed you've got now, you'll be hitting rockets. Keep it up man!
