The problem with overconsumption is that people buy and buy, then feel bad and sell, but then they buy again and the cycle repeats. It’s better to either accept the collection and use it, or sell and not rebuy. I used to sell some bags but now I refuse to sell and instead try to use what I have. It makes me more wary to buy now since space is limited.

Yes! I do not resell for this reason anymore. If I buy - I use the item until it’s not in sellable condition anymore. I buy resale but I had to stop reselling because it just fueled my overconsumption and influenced my style more than I like to admit (I started buying bags - and shoes and coats, etc - that I wouldn’t have considered because I knew it would resell at a good price)

I fell into this buy and sell cycle for a while also. I’m proud to say it’s been close to 3 years since I broke that cycle. I still enjoy my current collection. But I’m not adding anymore. I was close to 40 at one point. I’m down to half now.

Hi Amelia! I have been a purse lover since I was 5, yes 5. My Grandma and I would spend hours with her bags, and it's one of my cherished memories of her. It has never stopped. I bought my first leather bag at 13 after saving my allowance for 2 whole years! I still have that bag, and still love it. It will be my Granddaughter's one day!!💕☺️🇨🇦

I never feel bad :) But I spent 20-odd years not being able to even afford shoes, and I give away extra stuff, rather than sell it.

I think there’s a razor thin line between calling oneself a “collector” vs “shopping addict”. I have amassed a large collection of original art, mostly paintings and handmade pottery from all over the world. I have always called myself a “collector of art”. It took me many years to discover that what I was actually chasing was that euphoric high and feeling of sheer excitement I experienced every time I brought a new piece of art into my home. I recognized shortly thereafter though, that I would often feel buyer’s remorse which was followed by guilt just at the sheer over consumerism and consumption of “stuff that grabbed hold of me, all the while trying to justify my “collection” to myself. It’s natural to want to surround yourself with likeminded people (enablers). I did. Who wants criticism? Not me. I have downsized and purged many things from my home now. An uncluttered home makes for an uncluttered mind. Ultimately, you do you. It’s just good that you can acknowledge that perhaps you have too much and that you know yourself well enough to know that you will always continue to chase that high, never feeling completely satisfied. Maybe also, now that you’ve received your leather LV bag from the PW drop, it has caused you to reflect on your entire handbag collection and reevaluate what you’ve got and what you actually love. You’re a good egg Amelia. ♥️

Most of my bags only get worn a couple of times a year. I tend to have my favourite "workhorses" that I always opt for. Same with clothes...50 shirts and sweaters in my closet and I usually wear the same 5 or 6😂 BUT THEN there will be that ONE beautiful summer sunday where I can rock the pretty dress, the white embroided tunic, the stunning pearls or the raffia bag that I've been holding on to and I'll love it and it will be worth it❤ Yes, it's cold and rainy most days and I have to work/handle the child which makes certain clothes and bags and jewellery unwearable on "normal" days but that makes me look forward to the days where I can wear the pretty things even more...makes it more special.

I think you've acquired a thoughtfully curated bag wardrobe. You are self aware and when you fall out of love with a bag, you move it on to make way for the next truly loved bag. I find this more relatable and interesting than many "collectors" that are actually hoarders.

What about embracing it and doing a 40 day insta challenge where you wear a different bag each day and style it? You could do your neverfull and another bag for work. You could also have days off if it sounds too much work to do it consecutively. Dayle got told her outfits weren’t appropriate for work at one point btw. As you can see she worked around that. I could see a conservative suit with a pop of colour for example.

@@MadhuraSanasI have been decluttering my home so that I only have what I need, use and love. My bags are the only things I won’t declutter because I love them all. That being said I don’t have a big collection. I agree that minimalism is different for everyone.

I’ve been on the same train of thought and have been cutting down my collection slowly. I definitely don’t have the social life to have as many bags as I have!

Great reflection Amelia. You just need more weekend days in the week haha. It’s true that certain bags get more use because they are more durable or easy to use or a variety of other reasons. Doesn’t mean you don’t want to have the ones that are infrequently used. Sometimes those make me the happiest. Everyone spends their disposable income on different t things and no one can say what that should be.

So glad my taste allows for me to carry my bags through the week and I don't do the pack mule thing back and forth to the office. Course my salary is hourly so if doesn't get done during work hours, it can wait. No interest in earning comptime I can never use. I have capped myself at 52 bags (# of weeks in a year) and any bag I consider getting I have to let one go. Now I am at the point when I treasure each and every bag I have and am not willing to part with any so basically I am on a bag ban. It has to be really amazing for me to consider letting go of one of my babies. I maintain a spreadsheet of my bags, track which ones I've carried each year and note the serial number, place of purchase and purchase price. Over that last 15 years I haven't spent anywhere NEAR a beach house!

Amelia, It was so much fun watching this video! It sounds like you have arrived at the conclusion that you could or should lessen the number of bags that you have, for whatever the reason. Then, my suggestion would be, to start with the one in, one out plan. This plan provides a starting point for the releasing of at least a few of the bags that no longer have the magical powers they once had over you. And, I understand the magic, but once it is gone, I am a believer that if you release it, then it will become some else's magic!

I agree with you….partially. I’m a collector and I have to admit that I’ve purchased must have bags in the past, just to have them because I know that I will probably make a great resale profit on my rarer bags. It’s ironic that you have posted this video though because I was filming yesterday and searching my collection for black bags and came across an entire collection of old DKNY bags. I then decided to film another video about these bags and have made the decision to get rid of the majority of them but decided to keep two of them that I have fallen in love with again! So yes. I agree my bag collection is far too big but rediscovering them is so amazing that I’m reluctant to get rid of them 😂 Thanks for sharing your perspective 🩷

Great video..I’m literally stopping myself from buying new bags as I have too many already. Also I hate losing money when I try to sell them. I try and rotate my bags as much as possible even though like you I don’t have too many places to carry these fancy bags. I use a style app to make sure I’m using all my bags.

I totally agree with this video. There is another KZreadr (Meredith) who I watched after seeing her in one of your vlogs. I don’t see it as “collecting.” It just looks like hoarding and a waste. Especially when you see her turn around and have a huge sale. I guess if you can afford to buy whatever you want, fine…that’s your prerogative. But, everything seems to lose its appeal and specialness to the viewer, when you parade out one after the other and never see them actually used. It’s not fun or interesting. Just makes me think that something is lacking in that person’s life. I LOVE handbags and always have, but I have to say that, for me, the overconsumption has made owning more lose its appeal. I love your videos by the way. ❤

Of course people are free to spend their money however they wish but like you, I just don't find massive unboxings interesting to watch anymore. How can anyone be truly excited about purchases that have been sitting in unopened boxes for weeks or months? Shopping addiction is real. I admire Amelia's honesty and self reflection.

Meredith is a very good friend of mine, she is a true collector, but she will be the first to accept the size of her collection is not what will work for everyone. Meredith's love of bags is genuinely not from anything missing, she is very happy in her life, she is like a collector as in for eg a stamp collector, who needs to complete the set. Her thing is just bags.

I used to be in a hunter gatherer mindset with bags. Granted, mostly second hand, but I couldn't stop. I have a CC Bowling bag since 4 years and I have not worn it out ONCE! So I did purge my collection and sold about half of them. Kept the most difficult ones to replace. Mostly due to the price increases. If I sell them I will never ever get them back because I refuse to pay these current crazy prices. I have the expensive ones insured. This is a recurring cost you have to consider. My plan is to sell them in a few years to help with our retirement fund. Same as with my watch collection. I will probably come down to 2-3 bags and 1-2 watches in about 10 years.

Why does that have to be ridiculous? I think we've been trained so much through our upbringing, schooling and other sources to be responsible, which I am certainly for, that any little seeming deviation outside of what's "acceptable" (whether to our own selves or others) "appropriate", "sensible" and yes "normal" makes us feel bad about ourselves or our choices/behaviors even when no crime is committed and noone is harmed in any way. I as yet have a very small bag collection, but as I am able to purchase more of the things I like and enjoy I'm going to do just that: Enjoy them! All this angst over all these little things that we feel we aren't doing or responding to or choosing etc "just right" is exhausting. I say this because that's how I've lived for too much of my life and I really don't think the Lord had us stressing over these things in mind when He made us. So it's a big waste of our time and life. We are meant to enjoy things that aren't bad or harmful. There's a scripture that reads "He gives us all thing richly to enjoy". And I know handbags are included no matter how nuts that may sound. I believe He gave us the idea in the 1st place because He knows and enjoys Himself how much we ladies enjoy all the little cute pretty and feminine things we use and that are aesthetically pleasing to us. Sorry about the rant, I just see so much anxiety in some of the comments of videos I watch and would like to see us just enjoy and not criticize ourselves so much. Have a blessed day😊

My entire collection has been reworked and I now have 10 or 11 bags and I absolutely love and they are in often rotation. everyone is different though! Love your videos, keep making them😎

I feel yah. My way of rotating my bag is to have a certain number of bags for each occasion. So I rotate between two Birkin 30, a jumbo Chanel and a Balenciaga Le Dix (this one has no logo for times that I need to avoid unwanted attention) for everyday work. Then I have about four to five for events and four to five for travel and three for raining days, etc. I don’t have too many for each category. This way they all get to be used and serves a purpose in my head. But, yes, we have too many😅 nevertheless.

I had 26 (contemporary and luxury) and to me is a lot. I do rotate my handbag but still some of it do not get use a lot because on some occasions i do not want to use my luxury one and may not be suitable for it. Thanks for sharing 😍

I didn’t start buying luxury bags until about 7 years ago and was already in my 50’s. My husband and I were at a place where we didn’t have the debt we had when we were younger. I’ve always been very careful in my spending and never buy impulsively. I have a small collection compared to most KZreadrs but it is intentional. I’ve never wanted a huge collection and love that I feel content with what I purchase. I think the problem with many is that they are always looking for the next high. Shopping of anything can become an addiction. We can’t find happiness by constantly shopping. I love my bags but I don’t need new ones. When it’s my birthday or Christmas and I’ve seen a new bag I love I will gladly accept a gift from my hubby.🥰😂 Last year I was concentrating on decluttering my home so I only bought one bag for the whole year and I was happy.

Guuurrl! Okay so you have a few bags but remember you enjoy most of them. Yes 40-50 is a lot but You are still relatively young( I’m past 50) and I can tell you as you progress through life you will be able to wear your bags more. You may change jobs, go full on into self employment and get out of corporate( thats what I did at 50) Other then going hard on a lot of pink bags maybe stream down that color way a little. I have over 5o and am trying to get down to 40. Of course there are bags I will never sell like the LV I got from my mom who passed away a few years ago or a few others that I do not wear often but still enjoy on occasion. Maybe get down to a good 35 or so but life changes and your love of bags will most likely stick with you so enjoy your bags and life each day! You are right..I have never had purse peace. My husband thinks I’m a little daffy but he has no problem with my obsession. Yes Dale has influenced me as have Deb, Meredith, Monica, Cassie, Janee, and the list goes on…but I try to stick with what I really like and not what everyone else has….but it is hard. Amelia, maybe it’s about learning your style? I just purged some handbags from my collection bc it doesn’t function with my style. When I purchased the bags they were for a fantasy self. Or maybe handbags is the way you express yourself from the constrictions of the corporate world? 😊 either way, I’m like you a handbag lover! 🫣🤭 If someone doesn’t fund your lifestyle, then, they have no say.

i keep my luxury bags to 9 bags at this moment and that’s it no more than that. occasionally i will declutter as i am lazy to rotate and switch out of them for convenience sake so i just keep these bags for practicality usage. not just for wardrobe display. currently i have been using my chanel 22 for almost 3 weeks straight 😂daily.

I love your collection and I think you having that many bags is working in your favour because your not using a single one every day so your bags stay fresher and nicer longer so of you sell you can fetch a decent price. Also because your collection includes includes complicated textiles like sequins and embroidery so using them in your rotation will be easier on your bags. Me I like seeing something get a bit beat up but I still a decent collection and their men’s bags so I use them pretty heavy

I’m not a high end collector but I’m obsessed with Kate Spade and have about 20 of her bags plus another maybe 15 from other brands. Ideally I would have a maximum of 10 bags which includes my work bag, travel bags etc. I need to declutter but it’s so hard.

I don’t know if you could actually buy a house on the beach with your handbag collection, but you could definitely be doing other things like maybe taking that money in investing it in the home you have.. again totally up to you. I have many but i switch every time I go out , sometimes 3 bags per day 😅 the one I use rarely are the lighter color and the exotics. For my work i used to be more reserved then I stopped caring .I even use them even when I go to my tennis matches ( I think that is wrong I know need to stop , because I don’t handle them well when I am on a rush )

I guess one of the things that the majority of "collectors" don't consider is never getting duplicates of the same bag in different colors or bags of different brands in the same color. That is a catastrophe in my opinion. You'll have trouble deciding which one you'll wear. One piece will always be sitting on the shelf waiting for that "special occasion".

I find it very difficult to get rid of, or sell, a bag I don’t use often because of the money I will lose. Now I realize that if I don’t sell it I lose the entire amount; but still it just galls me to realize how much money I wasted. I know stupid huh?

There are artisans and craftsmen willing to train apprentice young people if the fashion houses with their exorbitant prices would but allow it, but they know we like what we cannot or do not have, so they restrict their output and make us pay dearly for their beautiful bags, and laugh all the way to the bank

I’m a long time subscriber and while I love your channel I can’t help but wonder how many times you are going to recycle the same material for the sake of churning out these videos it’s getting a little redundant hopefully you’d be able to branch out into other fields of interest soon

Purse peace was achieved directly by my bank account. It went negative and so I was done 😅

Collecting is something I'm familiar with, but it's structured. I cap it with what I use, price budget and color, same with my hats, glasses, fragrance, sneakers, and now western boots. It's a slight mental disorder , get therapy 😊😅❤

I always wear extensions ,my own hair is very thin, but yes i got new hair in and have kept more of the length

The continued need to buy more luxury handbags is tapping into a psychological disorder. Many women showing their voluminous luxury handbag collections on this site seem to manifest this compulsive shopping disorder. Getting some counseling might help.

I feel slightly concerned by your body language whwn you talk about pressuring someone into a purchase. What's the line between yourself and someone pushing a pub friend to either drink or never go to that pub again?

who attacked you? who called you out? lol. so we can go talk to them lol, because this is all crazy talk lol. i ask because i get like this when someone says that bag again... and when i say someone it's hubby! lol. im like bruh! mind ya business lol. you could also double bag daily! but i get what you're saying sometimes i feel guilty for having so much sitting on the shelve and i could have a bigger house, new car or another vacation. but why. that bigger house comes with more costs and i already hate cleaning the little house i have, imagine the bigger one. a new car great, but it would just sit there as i no longer go into the office and why have 3 cars. im thankful i have gone to the places ive wanted to go to. so why not buy/have a pretty bag that puts a smile on my face even if she just sits there. plus now that things are back to normal i have been cutting back since May 2023 and im being more anal on what i buy lol. i critique it like crazy, research it and wait it out. so i think we'll be okay this yr.

Hi Amelia, I disagree with your concept of owning bags. I think they are art. You do not have to wear them. Some people collect tea cups, they do not use them all either. Why is that a problem?

Agreed. Some people collect. It’s part of our nature. I have a Barbie doll collection. I don’t play with them. They are just displayed. Same thing with hand bags. I use some and others just sit until I need them. There is nothing better than when you have to go out and you actually have something to wear. That includes handbags too. I have a Gucci bag that my mom bought me in 1988 when I was 18. I used it for under a year and then put it away because I wanted to keep it clean and safe. It sat there for 35 years before I used it again. It’s in great shape except the loop for the strap broke one day when I was using it a few years ago. I have to get it fixed. I display it now with all the rest of my bags. I love looking at my bags and when the need comes, I have them to wear. I have about 25 high end designer bags and do not intend to sell any. I want about 10 more but will purchase them over several years. I really think about a bag before buying it. If there is a trendy bag that I like that is designer, I will wait for a dupe to come along. Example, I loved the Chanel heart bag but waited for the one from Coach to go on sale and then I bought one. A fraction of the cost of Chanel and I won’t feel so bad giving it away if I want to one day. I say to people do what works for you but make sure it works for you.

for me it isn't a problem, but it is how i know if i really love the bag. If i really love the bag, I don't care if i don't use it, it is the ones that deep down aren't right, that i get anxious over

I feel the same way with my watches and bags 🥲 I dont think I would have stopped buying if i just put my foot down and go cold turkey. I also unfollowed/muted temptations on social media.
