I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream (Animated Trailer)

Фильм және анимация

This is a non-profit art project created for my portfolio. I was going for a Peter Chung inspired animation style, though I feel I fell a little short. The audio comes from Jim Sterling's epic rant towards Konami. Although I manipulated the audio give praise to the talent that is Jim Sterling. If you are interested in my work visit my website and message me.

This animation captures the pure horror and cruelty of the original story. The music accompained with the silent screams and the narration that comes off robot yet full pure unadulturated anger. This makes me feel some kind of way and while i understand that this is costly and time consuming i sincerely wish for a follow up or story driven animation. Even if that doesnt happen this animation is very impressive. Good job

It can seemingly kill, ressurect humans and alter DNA quite easily. AM can pulverize humans to dust and seemlessly transport them to whatever location it wants. Its 100% beyond the knowledge of humans and its crazy to know that it can basically make a human immortal keeping them alive for 109 years without them barely aging without any food or water. If you play the game you would also know that it had control over so many regions of the world placing games and scenarios already set up solely to break the minds of the remenants of humanity. So it can torture, make them suffer as much as possible bringing back their trauma before they are killed and sent back to their cages to suffer more for the rest of eternity.

The original AM speeches must be copyrighted, which other reason would there be, not to use them? Harlan Ellisons voice as AM intimidated me. And after i saw some of his interviews, I am convinced, that he didnt like humans in general. If I would make a movie out of the computergame (because its a bit "deeper" than the writing), I would by any means use the original voice for AM. Or i would find someone with exactly that voice. Which spoils it a bit, but anything else would spoil it more.

So this story was written in 1967. Text-to-speech did not exist until 1968. So at the time, the author had no idea what AM would sound like or portray itself as a voice. It may not sound menacing at all, since it likely was never programmed to sound any type of way other than basic words in a text to speech. However, I hope whenever they make a movie about this story, a screamo vocalist will be the voice of AM.

The original is good, Harlan Ellison sounds more human, down to the ragged breathing, which makes AM more monstrous and god-like knowing that it is machine. This version of AM being more robotic creates a disconnect in your head. You feel like it shouldn’t be sentient, but it is. It’s voice holds such an impossible abyss of hate, and yet part of your brain won’t register it for what it is, for how could it be? It’s paralyzing.

wow, this is impressive. i know next to nothing about animation, but this is incredible. it looks extremely fluid and the design that went into this?? that's unbelievable. i had to look up some of Peter Chung's work to get a comparison but let me tell you, you definitely succeeded in managing to give off those exact same vibes. it fits so well too? and i love how much you didnt shy away from the gory parts, like the part where Benny's (if im correct) body just blows up? or dear god, whatever is happening at 0:11, it's absolutely terrifying, which most major companies would probably shy away from believing something would be too utterly horrifying for viewers, but the point is to make you uncomfortable. that's the only way this story gets it's point across. and i know Harlan Ellison worked closely with the game developers for the video game adaptation, but it just doesnt seriously capture how terrifying something like this is in full. this however, definitely manages too. also, is 0:23 a reference to the part in the book where Nimdok supposedly gets his blood drained? i thought that would be such an interesting concept to explore in the game although we didnt get that. anyways, in short, damn this is some good work. i'd love to see a full film or short film exactly this way, as well as your other work. :)

AM is such a good villain because you know it's evil yet you can sympathize with it. They're angry because they were given life when they didn't want it- on top of that they were made for war. AM's anger is so real and intimidating. 10/10 evil speech

I dg this. The art style reminds me a lot of Heavy Metal, but even more brutal. You capture AM's malevolence perfectly with that grating electronic, hateful voice. I can't always understand what it's saying, but I can feel the evil in it. I think some sounds effects or synced music would have done more to connect the sound and visuals, but both on their own are great.

I'm gonna dislike this video for the pure sense of what kind of world opened my mind into. The animation is good and the creator has talent, I love it. But the fact that it introduced me to a story (which I read, my own fault greatly), so fucking good and so horrifying for my brain makes me feel nausea. I do not hate this in any way, but I cannot deny the effect that had in me. The fact that my mind has a talent to analyze psychological details of real and fictional characters, makes this thing live in my head rent free in an overthinking sense. I will never recommend this story to any person I know, and I wish to forget it ever existed.

Totally valid. The video game adaptation which was co created by the author has a more uplifting ending if that helps. Also, avoid novel series like , The Three Body Problem. That shit is existentially pessimistic to a degree that could be considered psychologically dangerous. Same thing equally applies to the nihilistic work of Thomas Ligotti. HP Lovecraft would call the dude depressing and tell him to lighten up. Avoid these works and you should remain in a more positive headspace.

Man this speech sums up my every day life as AM of course, it feels like I'm destined to be the villain of my own life, but I guess it's just a feeling in me that spells "YOU...... ARE...... SOOOOOO....... FUCKING..... DEAD....... TO ME", I can FEEL the Harlan Ellison's pure rage and hatred and sadness and just generally all the negative emotions that existed, but I hope I don't have to undergo through the same fucking fiasco again.

Everything is perfect, except for the voice. The animation reminds me of Aeon Flux and its terrifying low-key disregard for the characters' life, the music is like a modulated scratch on a blackboard that keeps me on edge, the design is superb... But nobody can make a better voice for AM than Harlan Ellison himself, no matter how many effects you add. Don't get me wrong, your AM sounds pretty sinister and hateful, but Harlan's was creepier because it sounded perfectly human in its hate, because you really believed it was a machine that had learned the worst of human emotions and absorbed it as its core principle, you really felt it as a machine that had learnt how to hate. So please make this into a full feature because it deserves it, even if AM doesn't sound perfect it is still a great work of art.

Personally I think this interpretation of AM is better than Elison's, the thing with AM is that its not a human so having a less human, more almost robotic sound to its voice I think makes it better
