Never played War Thunder but that was one of the most beautiful moments I've seen in all of gaming.

Whoever helped this pilot and if you ever read this, thank you for your service!

An event very similar to this actually happened in Vietnam. The event was known as "Pardo's Push" where Captain John Pardo used his F4 Phantom to push his wingman's badly damaged aircraft, flown by Captain Earl Aman, 88 miles toward Laos. Pardo had his wingman lower his tail hook and he pushed the other F4 by lodging the tail hook on his canopy until one of his own engines caught fire and he ran out of fuel. Both pilots had to eject and they managed to evade capture before being rescued by helicopter. They were both eventually awarded the Silver Star.

Not that long, the video is from 2 years ago.

That move was based on an actual event. During the Vietnam conflict, 2 F-4's were returning from a sortie when one was critically low on fuel. The pilot of the low fuel aircraft was directed to drop his tail hook, and the other pilot flew their aircraft up to the tailhook, using the windscreen to push the aircraft into safety.

He carried him over his shoulder like a marine.

My aviation maintenance instructor was a mechanic in the airforce during the Vietnam War and would often refer to the F-4's as "flying rocks"

It hits even harder when you know this happened in real life between 2 F-4's

In the Vietnam War Two F4s had been on patrol, one has an issue. Like fuel or broken engines I forgot The broken one used its carrier hook to be pushed by the other F4. What a hero. I wish more teammates played like this. Truly makes the game *way* more enjoyable than just "getting kills". Anyone can get a kill, but it takes real skill and heart to do something like this with little to no communication or planning.

That, and saving and protecting a flipped ennemy (that you may or may have not caused the flip in the first place by destroying the makeshift bridge.) One more thing that i find much more enjoyable than just getting kills, is actually playing the objectives, one way or the other. Be it standing your ground on a capture point or instead using it as bait to ambush ennemies.

The push was very minimal but likely helped a ton with the distance, increasing the glide distance just enough to make it to the airfield bounds

If you have the setting on you automatically get put into a squad every game so it doesn’t necessarily mean it was organized but it could have actually been a random

that F-4 risked not only colliding and killing both of you, but also you could've stalled, and that guy just wanted to help, respect.

Whoever that was actually knows their history. It was called “Pardos push” and involved a mortally wounded F-4 in Vietnam. He dropped his arresting hook and another F-4 used his jet to push long enough that the stricken crew could eject in safer area.

Pardo's F4 had taken a hit and lost fuel. Once his plane's fuel dried up both crew's ejected. A bean counter didn't believe he had been hit and run out of fuel and tried to discipline him for losing his plane, but charges were dropped.

​@@JimRFF I've have you know I deployed on short notice, OUTSIDE of my air conditioned room in order to debrief and assist callsigns "Mom" and "Dad" with the unloading of supplies and rations requisitioned from the quartermaster over at F.O.B. Walmart, from their unarmored light infantry transport. Dangerous shit out there... Almost got attacked by a squirrel.

This actually happened in Vietnam between two Phantoms, with one pushing the nose into the engine to get back to friendly territory before the latter ejected.

This is the reason why i played warthunder, 2 years later I have american and russian tech trees in air grinded all out. This is the greatest video of warthunder of all NO MATTER WHAT. A pilot during the Korean War actually did this after they chased a mig far far off course and had to push each other to reach the airfield sadly one of them died trying to escape from their own parachute underwater

If you were able to get a Medal of Honor in games, this man would totally be a candidate for it. Salute to this fellow phantom pilot.

Once I was in a Blenheim playing with my friends and one of them lost all of their engines half way back to the base, I gave him a lift without breaking my own engines and my plane and he was able to land

Man moments of teamwork like these really make this game amazing, the best experience I've had in War Thunder was when I was fairly new to the game playing as a bomber, I got attacked by a couple fighters that I couldn't fend off. In comes maybe 4 teammates who shoot them down and escort my barely airborne bomber back to the base.
